Within the Merak Sacred Land, the Pill Pavilion appeared to be above worldly affairs. In reality, however, it was deeply involved in the power struggles between various factions. Aside from the few Pavilion Masters, no one could remain completely uninvolved.
Take Yang Chan, for example. Having just joined the Pill Pavilion, he was immediately branded as one of the Merak Saintess's own.
The same was true for other Pharmacists. Unless they possessed an extraordinary background, they were labeled long ago.
Even those with extraordinary backgrounds inevitably faced their own set of restrictions.
However, Yang Chan's promotion to Advanced Pharmacist put him in a relatively good position. After all, the Top Level Pharmacists ranked above him rarely took sides, remaining extremely detached—at least on the surface. Consequently, Yang Chan's identity as a Third Level Alchemist was unlikely to be heavily restricted. He would have a great deal of autonomy, which was a huge advantage.
