The mercenary pulling the tripwire had his head pinned to a large tree by a crossbow arrow. Brains and blood splattered across the trunk in a shocking display.
His companion was so startled he didn't react for a moment, freezing for two seconds before he understood what had happened.
"Enemy!"
"The Wandering Knight is here!"
The man shouted, then immediately scrambled to his feet and fled in a blind panic.
But his only answer was a merciless crossbow arrow.
"SWOOSH!"
Another red streak flashed as a crossbow arrow shot out, entering the back of the mercenary's neck and bursting out through his throat.
The mercenary's face was filled with terror. He flailed his arms wildly, finally gripping the arrowhead protruding from his throat with both hands, but he couldn't stop the blood from streaming over his fingers.
He struggled to run a few more steps before his strength gave out, and he collapsed onto the forest floor.
"'Big Finger'! Fuck, Big Finger is dead!"
