Chapter 16 - Corrupt

François straightens his suit and removes his blood-covered glove

"That's how you 'raise' a child," François retorted, still as calm as ever.

The professor fell dramatically backwards

"You're deranged!" the professor shouted scandalously.

He pinched his nose tightly, which was running red

The servants, alerted by the noise, rushed onto the terrace from the outside, but were fixed at a safe distance by François's mere gaze.

I look away, disgusted by the scene, covering my face with a hand beneath which a smile had managed to escape.

"Please escort the gentleman to the exit," ordered François.

The servants all jumped and recoiled in fear; only Regina rushed forward and helped the professor to her feet.

"Let go of me," the professor growled, pushing Regina away now that he was on his feet.

– You filthy thing, you've got a problem, huh! Hitting someone for no reason

The professor, red with anger, shouted, pointing at François, as blood continued to flow from his nose.

"You'd prefer I escort you," François threatened.

The professor lunged at his belongings, slung them under his arm without even putting them away, angrily passed François, and shoved all the servants in his path.

"Get out!" he yelled.

– YOU'LL BE HEARING FROM ME, I'M GOING TO SUMMON YOU TO COURT, I'M GOING TO JAIL YOU UP

I watched out of the corner of my eye, unable to contain my joy.

François looked away from the servants, she collided, jostled, and disappeared in less than a second.

"Regina," François whispered, handing her his gloves.

– Yes sir

"Bring me some ice and the first aid kit too, and I don't want anyone loitering around here aimlessly," François ordered rather coldly.

In this state, I prefer to keep my distance.

Regina hurried off to her tasks, leaving only the two of us on the terrace.

Silence

I carefully walk past him, retrieve my bag from the table, turn around without a word, and am ready to slip away before he can find his words.

And the gate opens again, attracting his attention and giving me time to flee and hide in my room.

At the entrance, there was nothing more than my brother and his eternal assistant, Gaston.

"Hérèse ," murmured François, trapped on the other side of my bay window.

I move closer, almost opening the door to Him, but I hold back and draw the curtains.

– Leave it… We'll talk about it later

– See you tomorrow, I'll finish and turn off the light inside.

The next morning.

I left very early, really very early, the sky was still grey.

The journey to school was heavy and silent; today again, mother was not at home, so I wasn't going to waste my time having lunch with my brother.

I was expecting whispers or questions, but as usual since I arrived, all the staff here avoided me and averted their gaze as if

They had received the order.

When I arrived, I slammed the door behind me and left with just a simple gesture towards François.

– (the last day before the weekends, just a few hours of suffering)

I muttered to myself as I walked into my classroom.

It was quite early, and the only ones present were already chatting, passing around and giving out leaves, laughing.

– (Leaves of paper?... A paper, oh shit, MY PAPER, THE SIGNATURE)

I rushed straight outside, praying that Francis was still there

"Damn... I knew I'd forgotten something," I murmured, running a hand over my face.

He had already left; there were no more cars outside or even in the distance.

– HHa!, with a forced smile

I trudge miserably back to my classroom, with a knot in my stomach.

– (Another teacher who's going to be on my back, I'm really having a run of bad luck)

BRINNNN!

The doorbell

A whole world appeared from I don't know where, rushing inside with the latest arrivals, restoring calm and order, all of them placing their papers on the edge of their desks.

– (that's all we needed)

Luc rushed over, started picking up the papers from behind, only taking the signed ones, then stopped again in front of me, confronting us once more with that sly smile he always wore when facing me.

"Didn't you understand that you had to hand in your paper? Do you want me to explain it to you too?" Luc sighed sarcastically.

This caused Alex and those behind the chief and deputy chief to burst into laughter, all except Jack who still had a purple and swollen face.

I stretch and lean back in my seat

– Are you stupid? Or are you doing this on purpose? If I didn't ask, it's because I don't have it. "Do you want me to explain it to you too?"

I replied with my hands folded on my stomach, making sure to look him in the eyes.

He swears and leaves.
