Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - Nature of Quirks

What is it to be an Otherworldly Demon? Is it unbelievable selfishness? An excessive urge to murder? No, to be an otherworldly demon is to exist as an outsider.

Fang Yuan, not originally from the cultivation world, had transmigrated from the mundane Earth and joined the world of immortals with an alien soul.

Originally a Chinese scholar, he had found himself inexplicably in the world of immortal Gu. Lived 500 years and used Spring Autumn Cicada to rebirth as a demon into the world of quirks.

The Spring Autum Cicada is a heaven defying gu worm with the ability to return its used to the past by flowing against the river of time and sacrificing the body.

Rebirth!

What this gu worm represents is rebirth, such an amazing ability can only be obtained through the sacrifice of Fang Yuan's 500 years of hardship.

To reverse time, reverse fate, reverse the heaven!

Fang Yuan used this gu to go back into the past, however he has found himself transmigrated into a different world with striking similarities to his homeland.

Someone superficial who places meaning on a sense of belonging would immediately feel lonely, and fearful of a new environment, and feel sadness and regret for being parted from their home.

Fang Yuan who sees past such beliefs would not be chained down, he is demon, he is free. How can the world he is in change the pursuit of his goal, why would he allow external changes affect his ambition?

That meaningless attachment is tiny and insignificant in front of his majestic and unattainable goal.

Fang Yuan recollected the memory of this body, it resembles his 14-year-old self from the gu world identically and does have a family. Two parents, younger brother. He went to school at a public high-school, antisocial, diagnosed quirkless.

After giving some thoughts to his situation, Fang Yuan stood up and walked away from the window. He has decided to first assess the situation of his body and home to begin steps of planning ahead.

His current physicality was pitiful, immature and no training. Weak cardiovascular endurance and strength. Low combat ability even when just comparing to mundane people.

His family situation isn't simple; his parents are financially unstable and poor. They're renting an apartment in which Fang Yuan is sharing a room with his brother, Fang Zheng.

Fang Yuan has grasped the nature of his current world based on the body's memories. Using quirks as a basis, individuals have achieved power to become stronger than organisations of people.

Him being quirkless is a disadvantage, but Fang Yuan's mind is still calm without a single ripple.

"Talent huh…" Fang Yuan sneered.

The door to his room opened, pushed open by teenager similar to Fang Yuan's appearance.

"Brother, school's going to start. Hurry up. I shouldn't have to tell you, you're always…" The teenagers cold voice spoke to Fang Yuan and drifted off towards the end of the sentence as he walked away.

"Fang Zheng…interesting." Fang Yuan thought about the boy who just spoke to him.

He shares the name of his twin brother in the world of Gu, and is similar in appearance, though not a twin.

Wasting no more thoughts, he planned to go along with his current identity as his strength was too lacking. The bond of kin can also be used, but he will not rely on it or let them bind him. His great ambition…only that can truly move Fang Yuan.

….

The nature of quirks, in a way is similar to gu. However, there is a difference. There's far more emphasis in talent in this world, unable to change your quirk you're forced to develop a specific and restricted combat system from the fundamental birth ability.

Whereas gu can be changed on a fundamental level. One gu may spit fire, one gu may breathe ice. Gu masters can combine multiple Gu's to form a combat system of defence, offense, healing, mobility, detection and concealment. Regardless of talent, the gu can be changed.

A quirk may never be able to reach a level to encompass all areas of combat, even when fully matured.

But heaven is fair, a single quirk has the power to push an area of combat to such an extreme, all others are meaningless.

What is the need of defence when you obliterate all attacks, what is the need of healing when you obliterate attacks, what is the need of mobility when you obliterate all attacks!

This is the nature of quirks!

Push strength to the extreme!

Fang Yuan is sat with an indifferent expression at his desk, deep in thought, when a blaring ringing sound wakes him.

"Everyone, remember to mark your future career path." The teacher spoke plainly and left to clock off.

Fang Yuan sunk into thought and remained seated.

The heroes in this world enjoy the privilege of being able to use their quirk without the government marking them as a criminal, however they're heavily restricted in their actions and have the responsibility of 'hero work'.

Whereas the villains are completely unrestricted to how they operate but are pursued by organised power of the government and their army of heroes.

'With sufficient strength, the hero association can be disregarded…however I am too weak right now.'

No matter what world, a person's freedom can only be attained through strength.

….

"My amazing son, you want to join U.A? Good! Good! As expected of my blood, you have a wonderful quirk. Your dreams should naturally be as such!"

Fang Yuan sat unbothered at his dining table, watched as his father praised his brother.

"Honey, mind your words" Fang Yuan's mother, couldn't help but say to her husband while looking pitifully at Fang Yuan.

His father turned to Fang Yuan. And stared at him.

"Fang Yuan, you have to support your brother. Our family can really use a hero to support this household, and your brother has potential."

"I wanted to have this discussion with you at another time but…you need to find a part-time job while you do your school studies to support us. The villains are ruining the economy, and we need an extra hand here to help with funds."

Fang Yuan stared blankly at his parent.

"Yes father, I will have a look"

He returned to eating indifferently. As if the previous conversation was a passing thought.

Kinship and loyalty, the demonic path does not comprise. Loyalty to others is betrayal to oneself.
