Chapter 85 - Chapter 85 - The devouring vortex

It was a warm day.

Everyone except Alpha and I, are training together in which they acted as if they were enemies against each other.

Everyone's ability in fighting, as well as using the magic infused weapon, have improved greatly, thanks to Bahar's help in which I begrudgingly admit that he has great skill in training people.

I still don't like him.

Sometimes I noticed him looking at me with malice in his eyes. But most of the time, he has a calm yet intense kind of look in his eyes as he stares at me whenever no one is paying attention to him.

I tried to avoid him as much as possible but he managed to appear within my line of sight.

My instinct seems to tell me that I should not be alone.

That's why I tried to stay beside Alpha as much as possible, to his delight as whenever I stayed beside him, he always talks about random things. I noticed that he usually stays silent and talks only if necessary when he's around others.

I'm surprised to see this side of him.

He seemed easy-going the way I remembered him when I was a werewolf, though he was arrogant when I met him again in the throne room. But when he became one of the pack, he's usually easy to get along with and was kind to me though I noticed him staring at me with a tender look in his eyes sometimes.

Wait, how did Alpha and I first met? Also I just realized, how did he know it was me back in the throne room? I wasn't in my werewolf form back then and we only spent time together in my werewolf form.

Let's not forget that he looked different the way I remembered him.

Something doesn't seemed right here.

Is something wrong with my memory?

Am I being hit on the head too many times that my memories are jumbled?

But instinct seems to tell me that I should probably take note of that.

And that same instinct seems to tell me that I'm safer with Alpha than with Bahar.

I was too engrossed with my thoughts that I was surprised to see several dark clouds in the sky.

I glanced around and noticed that the others seems to be engrossed with their training while Alpha is looking a bit groggy in steering the ship.

I should learn how to steer the ship so he can have a break too.

But wait, more and more dark clouds are forming in the sky and I began to see a bit of lightning in the distance.

I hurriedly ran towards the side of the ship and saw that the current is moving faster.

Oh no.

Charybdis.

We are facing Charybdis instead of the leviathan.

I shook Alpha awake as he was closing his eyes, telling him to make everyone stop training immediately.

Alpha took one glance at my face before pointing his finger towards the rest of the group, sending them some kind of energy blast in which they began to shout expletives at Alpha as they were almost hit by the blast.

It is also by magic that our ship managed to survive this far.

Then I called Lion in a calm voice in which he immediately flew towards my side and stood there, holding my face as he tried asking me what was wrong.

I simply pointed at the sky and told him only one word:

Charybdis.

....

As I have told everyone everything I have known about the legendary monsters, they seemed to know what to do.

They moved quickly but quietly as they saw that I'm already starting to panic.

Bahar, Alpha and Lion seemed to plan some sort of strategy while Orm got out several potions for everyone to drink as their energy was already drained since they were training earlier.

Sly and Ghost hurriedly secured everything as the waves started to become violent.

As for me? I was told to stay near the cabin as there is a nearby column in which I can just tie myself into to prevent myself from falling off the ship.

I don't mind as my weapon is a bit useless in this situation. All I can do is pray for everybody's safety and tie myself to the column as the ship is swaying violently.

I don't think they have gods here but I still prayed as I feel helpless.

It's times like this that I regretted what I said about the OP fantasy novel characters. I wished I had some kind of a power or something. Even healing would help.

But like I said, I'm just a human in which I had to work hard to gain a skill or talent.

Anyway, I can hear a deafening ROAR while our ship is being pulled into a large vortex.

Maybe I'm too panic driven that I just observed everything that unfolded before me like I was watching a video.

Alpha was tasked by Lion to use his magic to keep the ship safe while Sly and Ghost are busy getting rid of Charybdis's tentacles that tried to attack our ship.

Good thing that Charybdis isn't a hydra type of monster as the tentacles are getting fewer since Sly and Ghost got rid of them one by one.

Sounds of thunder kept sounding as Lion and Bahar are flying towards the head of the monster, hitting it with several lightning magic attacks.

Orm is at the mast, using his tail to hold into it as he sent a powerful barrage of lightning attack towards the monster, making it ROAR that hurts my ears.

Lion then raised his arms, hitting the monster with a powerful lightning strike attack in which the vortex seems to be out of control.

Bahar then went towards Alpha, telling him that they will try magic to stop the whirlpool from sucking the ship in.

Both of them went to the side of the ship and used a powerful magic (I don't know what magic they used) to disrupt the rotational flow.

The ship began violently shaking that I held onto the column for dear life.

Screaming is not really helpful in this situation as I may disrupt everyone's concentration.

Even if I slid downwards.

Good thing I managed to tie up my rope properly or else I would definitely fall off the ship.

Also it's a great help that I drank a potion earlier to help with seasickness or else I would faint from puking too much.

Our ship is moving on its side as something made the whirlpool start again.

Alpha and Bahar are trying their best to stop the whirlpool while Orm is using magic to prevent the ship from breaking apart.

Sly and Ghost have tied themselves into a separate column as they are done getting rid of all the tentacles.

I saw Lion flying towards the monster, his body surrounded by a brilliant glow of light as his hands are emitting lightning sparks.

He really is getting more powerful. Before, he used to rely on several magical jewelry to enhance his magic. Now, he doesn't wear any at all.

I'm a bit assured of Lion's safety as he is wearing the necklace I gave him. He never takes it off.

Our ship continued to violently sway for awhile until Bahar and Alpha managed to stop the whirlpool. They looked like they are about to faint from using too much magic. Ghost and Sly hurriedly removed the rope holding them and went towards Bahar and Alpha, catching them as they fainted.

Orm suddenly fell down from the mast and I hurriedly cut off the rope holding me, running towards him to check on his condition.

He just fainted from using too much magic.

Sly and Ghost slowly brought them towards one of the rooms inside the ship while I searched for Lion.

I glanced around, calling out his name as my heart began pound fast. I ran towards the side of the ship, looking for any signs of him when he suddenly came out of the water, grinning at me.

I felt relief in seeing him that I jumped off the ship towards him as he tried to catch me.

My arms wrapped around his neck as I cried while he held me tight, nuzzling my face as he apologized for worrying me.

In the corner of my eye, an island started to appear.
