Sam began to take some steps backwards due to fear.
Then a shadowy figure slowly came closer to the crowd of people attracted by the noise.
"What the hell is that?"
"I...don't know."
The people looked at the figure in confusion.
Sam looked at it and knew that it was not something good.
He paused for some seconds, then ran towards the opposite direction.
The figure then jumped out of the shadows, revealing a mortifying creature that looked like a hybrid of a worm and a spider. It had no eyes, only a circular mouth. Its body was that of a spider with eight legs.
It lunged at the people, ripping the head off an old man as blood gushed out of his body like a river.
Then the massacre began, the hideous creatures' eight legs stabbing multiple people at once.
It seemed to drain the blood from people like that, leaving behind only the bones, skin, and muscle.
The next second, panic all the people ran here and there trying to survive the creature's wrath.
Sam didn't look back as he ran. It wasn't until he maintained a safe distance that he stopped to get some air in.
"Hufff...fufff"
"What...even is that thing?"
He observed his surroundings, trying to find a way to escape this place.
And found a small alleyway to hide in. His breathing is now heavy.
He didn't speak a single word in fear of attracting the creature and watched in horror as the monster killed off the people who didn't escape.
After a while he saw the same little girl from before who bumped into him.
"Get...out of there," he murmured, but obviously that did nothing to help her.
For some seconds he thought of going to save her, but he didn't; he feared that he would die.
He saw as the thing slowly approached the girl.
Then it slowly opened its mouth, salivating, bit off the girl's head, and slowly drank the blood.
The pitiful screams of the young girl went silent.
Sam felt his stomach churn, making him puke.
"Why? ...why does everything bad... keep happening to me?"
The monster couldn't find anyone else, so it began to go search for its next prey.
When the beast got close to where Sam was hiding, he would stop breathing completely.
Once the beast got far enough, he began breathing; the smell of blood rushed through his nostrils.
The streets were now empty; the monster was nowhere to be seen. This continued on for an unknown amount of time until someone spoke using a speaker.
"Citizen, there is now no need to be worried, as the Awaked have arrived to subjugate the monster!"
The silent one remained for some time before it spoke again after a while, "The awakened have now slain the creature!"
The remaining survivors didn't leave their hiding spots until a little bit more time passed.
Sam left as everyone else also left; the streets were now filled with dead bodies.
He looked at the little girl's lifeless corpse in horror as her mother cried, moving her body.
The woman was in complete shock and despair.
At that moment he felt guilty for not going to save the girl, but what could he do? It was not like he could have reached her in time to save her.
'I...I...am sorry...' He thought to himself, not being able to talk out loud.
The atmosphere of the city was heavy and melancholy as the death of family and close friends was sinking into everyone, while some rejoiced over free space to sleep and the belongings the others had that were now theirs.
As the ensuing chaos continued, his mind was now in a complete mess of emotions and thoughts.
'I should've told them about the danger that was coming, but...I didn't... I am nothing but a coward, aren't I?
Then footsteps could be heard from a distance away from the mass of people.
"What is that?!"
"Did they lie to us?"
"I am scared."
A boy who seemed to be around twenty came out of the shadows.
His appearance was quite unique, to say the very least-red hair and purple eyes. He seemed like a person out of fantasy novels.
He had a smile on his face, black blood covering his face, even after noticing the hundred people lying dead on the floor.
"Ah...not even a thank you, huh? After I saved your asses?"
A person spoke from the group of people, "The hell you say? A thanks? You fucking bastard, couldn't you have come a little earlier? That thing could've killed us all!"
The rest agreed with the man.
The red-haired sighed, "So... ungrateful people…"
He continued, "You are lucky. I came since nobody, and I mean nobody, wanted to come to your rescue. So! I demand and thanks."
Sam looked at the red-haired guy, sighed a little, and then spoke out in a small voice, "Thanks..."
He smiled, "See! This kid gets it!"
The people stare at Sam, their eyes filled with disgust.
"Do you think you are better than us?" The same person as before asked.
The man's smile faded.
Sam thought the guy would kill everyone, but he didn't get the feeling again.
"So be it then..."
He took a step back, then went away, then paused a little further away.
"Great choice, kid..." He smiled.
Instantly the whole crowd disappeared; not a single person was left.
He looked around; the only thing left there was blood, a lot of blood.
"...what?" Sam spoke, his voice shaky.
Sam's breathing became faster and faster as he looked in horror; the people who were just behind him were now gone.
The boy stood motionless there, mortified by the scene that just occurred in front of him.
His whole body was now covered in blood.
He looked to his back, where the mother was holding her daughter's dead body, but there was nothing, not even the body, only a pool of blood.
