Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Tony Arrives

Jack and Sebas walked silently along the town road. When they reached the lab, they took out two sleeping bags, preparing to rest for the night.

"Master, please leave it to me."

Sebas took the sleeping bags, cleaned them with simple magic, and spread them neatly on the floor.

"Master, it is ready."

Jack said, "You sleep in that one. Rest helps you forget unpleasant memories."

Hearing this, Sebas replied respectfully, "Thank you, Master. I do indeed need to forget some unpleasant images from today."

Sebas tidied the sleeping bag and soon drifted off to sleep.

Both of them worked hard in their dreams to erase certain memories from the day…

The next morning, Jack opened his eyes and saw Darcy Lewis's small foot resting on him. She had been teasing him all morning, so he scratched it irritably.

Darcy was startled by the sudden tickle on the sole of her foot and jumped up immediately.

Jack climbed out of his sleeping bag, and Sebas thoughtfully handed him a wet towel to wipe his face.

"Where are Thor and Jane?"

Darcy slumped lazily over the table and replied, "They went into town to eat."

Jack asked curiously, "Aren't you going? You don't seem like the type who minds being a third wheel. If anything, you probably enjoy it."

Darcy grinned. "You really know me well. Then tell me—why didn't I go be the third wheel and score a free meal?"

Jack thought for a moment and said, "Could it be that you wanted to eat with me?"

Darcy smiled brightly and kissed Jack on the cheek. "That's the payment for the meal."

Jack pointed his thumb toward Sebas, who was preparing steak.

"I figured you were a glutton who wouldn't pass up something that smells this good."

He walked over, took a deep breath of the aroma, then glanced at the handsome older gentleman.

"Your butler said he'd make a portion for me, so I stayed."

The steaks were ready, and the two sat down to eat.

"Sebas, next time you can make a portion for yourself. We can eat together—you don't need to stand aside watching us."

Sebas bowed politely. "Thank you, Master. I have already eaten, so there is no need."

Jack didn't press further. In any case, Sebas wouldn't be staying long. Jack already knew where he planned to send him.

That would be after Thor's situation was resolved.

Jack intended to send both of them to S.H.I.E.L.D. as undercover agents. If they could infiltrate HYDRA, even better. If not, forcing it wouldn't be worth it.

Jack could see Sebas's status panel. His normal strength was around ten tons. However, Sebas was a Dragonoid with many abilities. If he used his full power, Jack suspected even he might not win.

As for Sexy Prisoner, his panel showed over seventy tons of strength. Stronger than Sebas in normal form—but against a serious Sebas, he'd still get crushed.

With that level of power, joining S.H.I.E.L.D. would be effortless. Whether Nick Fury trusted them didn't matter. Joining HYDRA would work just as well.

Sebas's righteous demeanor might earn him a bit of trust from the Black Egg, but not much.

As for Sexy Prisoner, Jack had no intention of managing him. If someone got pounced on, that was their bad luck. He didn't want to think about it.

Jack: Stop thinking about it, stop thinking about it—too filthy…

Jack soon found Thor with Jane. After just a few steps, he noticed Thor's expression twist into grievance and misery, his lips trembling as if he were about to cry.

Jack was startled. How badly had this kid been hurt?

Thor stepped forward and grabbed Jack's arm, then collapsed weakly to the ground. Jack sat down with him, wanting to know what had happened.

Jane was also alarmed. She had sensed something was wrong this morning, but Thor had insisted he was fine.

Seeing Jack, Thor finally broke down.

"Uncle…" Thor's voice trembled.

Jack felt Thor's body shaking as he sobbed. He gently patted Thor's back.

Thor's crying only grew louder.

"Uncle, I'm sorry… It's all my fault… I caused my father's death… I dragged Asgard into war…"

So Loki went to see him last night.

Thor's words struck Jack painfully, dragging up memories from before his transmigration.

Jack rarely let his mind rest—games, Wanda, anything to avoid remembering that he was the only one left in the world.

Jack lowered his head, tears welling despite his effort to suppress them.

Jane hugged Thor, pressing her face against his to stop him from speaking.

"Father… it's all my fault…"

Jane understood this pain deeply and comforted him quietly.

Darcy hugged Jack from behind, her usual sharp tongue gone as she let him lean against her.

After several minutes, Thor's breathing steadied, though his hand still clutched Jack's sleeve.

Jack let a few tears fall, then wiped them away. His stomach felt tight, but his heart felt lighter.

The somber mood lasted until noon.

(Can't write anymore, stomach hurts, skipping.)

In the afternoon, Tony Stark arrived with over a dozen suits of armor. Jack stepped forward to greet him.

Tony gave Jack a casual high-five and immediately walked past him toward Darcy and Jane.

Thor, still grieving, instantly went on alert. He stepped in front of the two women and extended his hand politely.

Tony ignored it, patted Thor's shoulder, and said, "Nice to meet you. Busy right now."

He walked past Thor and reached for Darcy and Jane.

"Ladies-ies-ies—"

Zap.

The stun gun in Jack's hand fired. Tony twitched and collapsed.

"Jarvis, take him over there to rest."

Two suits of armor lifted Tony away.

Jane stared in shock. "Jack… was that Tony Stark?"

Darcy raised an eyebrow. "Jealous? He didn't even touch my hand."

Jack shrugged. "Relax. Just a joke between friends."

Thor kicked Tony lightly to confirm he was unconscious.

Two hours later, Tony woke up.

"Dammit… electrocuted again."

He started tinkering around the lab.

"Interesting… this energy storm looks like a person."

"Sir," Jarvis said, "it resembles the large man from earlier."

"Scan the site."

Soon, the armor scanned the Bifrost traces.

"No residual energy detected… but strong fluctuations originate from this room."

Tony looked at the hammer.

"Jarvis, we've got work."

When Jack and the others returned, they saw an armor cutting into the dining table.

"Tony, what are you doing?"

Tony pushed up his sunglasses. "Tell me what this hammer is."

Jane exploded. "You destroyed my kitchen!"

Tony handed her a check. "Compensation."

Jane instantly calmed down.

Tony pointed at Thor. "You. Stand still."

After scanning him, Tony said, "You're done."

Thor walked off without asking about the salary.

Tony pulled Jack aside. "That guy's body isn't human."

Jack replied calmly, "Because he isn't."

"So… invasion?"

"Guardians," Jack corrected.

Thor stepped forward. "We protect the Nine Realms."

Tony blinked. "Then why ignore Earth?"

"Too backward," Thor replied bluntly.

Jack nearly mentioned the Ancient One, then shut up.

Tony pointed at the hammer. "God of hammers?"

Thor snapped. "I am the God of Thunder!"

Tony activated face-cleaning mode.

Jack whistled. "Fight! Fight—"

Jane snapped, "Outside."

They fought.

Thor didn't yield until he collapsed.

Tony finished him off with electricity.
