Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: Inner Eye Mind-Sight Technique

Chapter 78: Inner Eye Mind-Sight Technique

"So what do we do now?"

Naruto looked at Kakashi.

"If she refuses to go, are we supposed to knock her out and drag her along?"

"She's already out. We'll leave as soon as you two show up."

Sasuke said flatly, shooting a meaningful glance at Kakashi—who was holding a book disguised with a ninja handbook cover but was actually reading the newly released make-out tactics.

While they'd been waiting, Kakashi had used a Sharingan genjutsu to put the stubborn actress temporarily to sleep.

Asama Sandaifu stood to one side, rubbing his hands in embarrassment, clearly grateful yet a little uneasy about the method.

Six-six-six—talk about efficiency.

Naruto had already guessed how Kakashi had done it.

One Sharingan illusion and the target's eyes had rolled back, consciousness gone.

Kakashi: Looks like I'll have to take control of you too!

"All right."

Kakashi slid the book back into his ninja tool pouch, clapped his hands, and resumed his usual lazy tone—though with an edge that brooked no delay.

"Now that you two are here, we're all set."

He turned to the manager.

"Mr. Asama, bring Miss Yukie; let's get moving."

——————————

Sunlight slanted through the small round porthole, casting a quivering patch of light across the dim cabin. Fuji Fuuyuki's thick lashes fluttered; she slowly lifted heavy eyelids.

The first thing she saw was not the familiar ceiling pattern of her temporary inn room in Konoha.

A wooden ceiling? And a faint, rhythmic sway… a ship?

The realization shot through her groggy mind like a blast of cold current!

She bolted upright on the narrow bunk.

Why am I on a ship?

"You're awake?"

A cautious voice sounded.

Asama Sandaifu—her manager—stepped in, wearing an awkward, placating smile.

"Miss Yukie, I was just about to wake you…"

Through the open door behind him she saw blue sky, white-capped sea, and crew members moving along the rail—cruel confirmation of her worst fear: she'd been taken from land and was now adrift on the open ocean!

Rage at the deception and panic at being swept along by fate overwhelmed her in an instant.

She didn't even pause to question Asama; barefoot and in only a thin silk nightgown, her black hair tumbling loose, she rushed for the door.

'What is going on!'

A cry of shock, fury, and disbelief tore from her throat!

Like a lioness startled awake, she shoved Asama aside and sprinted for the hatch, bare feet drumming on the rough planks.

She flung the cabin door wide; it slammed against the bulkhead with a bang.

Cold, briny wind burst in, whipping her nightgown and tangling her long hair in the sharp sea breeze.

Barefoot, she stormed onto the wide, open deck.

The biting chill wrapped her bare ankles, yet the tempest inside her dwarfed any physical cold.

"Looks like Miss Fuji Fuuyuki is quite lively."

Kakashi lounged against the rail, glancing at the director beside him.

The mission bored him; the client had paid above A-rank rates specifically for him—one of the few Konoha Ninja who had ever been to the Land of Snow.

Since the Hokage had assigned it, he would see it through.

"Of course—Yukie's always full of energy!"

The silver-haired director beamed at the pouting heroine, eyes warm with paternal fondness.

Fondness aside, the shoot couldn't swap its lead; Yukie was going to the Land of Snow whether she liked it or not.

Though it was high summer, the temperature dropped steadily as they sailed north.

Entering Snow Country waters in so little clothing would invite a nasty chill.

Naruto silently pulled a blanket from his pouch; Sakura took it and hurried toward Yukie.

Sea-spray crashed against the hull.

"Your pouch really holds a lot."

Sasuke eyed the pack at Naruto's waist; he'd been meaning to ask.

"I'm good with Sealing Techniques."

Naruto tapped the pouch, pride in his voice.

"Want me to rig one for you? Fair warning—storage is bigger, but grabbing a Kunai fast in combat gets trickier."

He explained: "It's simple—I sealed a large trunk into the pouch. The space inside equals the trunk's, but low-level seals don't reduce weight; the pouch stays as heavy as ever."

"I'll pass."

Sasuke turned away, face cooling to its usual indifference.

He lacked Naruto's monstrous stamina; for a combat specialist, speed of access beat storage capacity every time.

Below, crew members bustled to set up the shoot; a make-up artist hurried toward the sulking Yukie, toolbox in hand.

Gulls wheeled overhead, crying sharply.

Naruto yawned and lazily shut his eyes.

Before departure Kakashi had warned him not to over-train during the voyage.

An A-rank escort could draw Ninja ambushes at any moment; constant vigilance was vital.

If he couldn't practice taijutsu or Ninjutsu, why not hone the sensor art Kagura Minds Eye? It heightened danger sense without draining stamina—killing two birds with one stone.

According to the scroll, clan members who hadn't awakened Kagura Minds Eye at birth or at Chakra onset had first to master a basic technique called the Inner Eye Mind-Sight Technique.

Much as the Flying Thunder God Array precedes Flying Thunder God itself, it was a prerequisite exercise.

The method opened the body's "mind eye," letting the user perceive the world through it—a stripped-down version of Kagura Minds Eye.

Its range was tiny, inferior to ordinary sensory Ninjutsu.

Only because it slightly boosted the odds of later awakening Kagura Minds Eye did any Uzumaki bother with it.

Naruto formed the seals in secret and let his Chakra drift outward.

At once his perception shifted: a 360-degree, almost x-ray vision unfolded.

Within five meters everything became crystal clear—cabin beams, ropes beneath the deck, even fish under the waves and distant gulls—each rendered as glowing points in his mind.

Sasuke glanced at him, sensing something, but seeing only Naruto at rest, turned back to the horizon.

None of them realized that, right now, Naruto was experiencing the world in an entirely new way.
