Chapter 76 - Chapter 76

The morning sun crested over the jagged, ancient peaks of Mount Myōboku, casting brilliant rays of gold across the Land of Toads. The hidden realm was a masterpiece of untamed nature—towering flora with vibrant, neon hues stretched toward the sky, while rivers of crystal-clear water carved through the mossy stone landscape. It was a stark, wild contrast to the mental echoes Naruto still carried of Konoha that morning: the crisp, organized streets of the hidden village, the distant chatter of civilians, and the warm, comforting scent of grilled fish and miso soup lingering in the Senju dining room.

But here, deep in the elder toads' sanctuary, the air was heavy with humidity and the ancient thrum of natural energy.

Naruto sat cross-legged on a woven tatami mat inside Lord Fukasaku's private office. The atmosphere was thick with quiet gravity. Across from him sat Fukasaku and Shima, their expressions serious. Behind them, hovering in the doorway to accommodate his massive size, was Gamabunta. Beside the elders rested Gerotora, the rare scroll toad, whose long, slender body remained coiled and tense.

"Naruto-boy," Fukasaku began, his raspy voice breaking the silence. "We have finally reached a consensus regarding the matter you brought to us yesterday. The key to the Eight Trigrams Seal has been kept safe by Gerotora for years. Before making this decision, I contacted Jiraiya."

Naruto's expression remained perfectly calm, his blue eyes unblinking as he waited.

"Jiraiya is not here," Fukasaku continued, closing his eyes briefly. "But his exact words were: 'I cannot control the brat, but he has his own path to walk. If he wants the seal's key, it's for a genuine purpose. I believe in him.'"

Naruto simply nodded. He didn't smile, nor did he boast. He accepted the weight of his godfather's trust with the silent grace of a seasoned shinobi.

"I agree with Jiraiya," Fukasaku said, opening his eyes. Shima nodded in silent agreement beside him.

"We all know you wouldn't take a risk like this unnecessarily," Gamabunta's deep, rumbling voice echoed from the hallway, his pipe smoke drifting lazily into the room. "You've proven your grit, brat."

At Fukasaku's nod, Gerotora stepped forward. The toad opened his mouth, unrolling the massive, intricate scroll that made up his very abdomen. Black, jagged fūinjutsu formulas lined the parchment. Naruto raised his right hand, channeling a faint, controlled pulse of blue chakra to his fingertips, and pressed his hand firmly against the center of the scroll.

The ink flared. A searing, momentary heat rushed up Naruto's arm, traveling straight to his stomach as the complex formula transferred itself onto his skin, overlaying the original seal. He exhaled slowly. He had the key.

By mid-afternoon, the blistering sun sat high above the valley.

Far from the populated center of Myōboku, Naruto stood ankle-deep in the shallows of a secluded, glass-like lake. The water was perfectly still, reflecting the expansive blue sky. On the muddy banks surrounding the water, Gamabunta, Fukasaku, and Shima stood in tense, watchful stances. Gamabunta's hand rested on the hilt of his massive tantō, while the two elders gripped their staves. They were the fail-safes. If the Kyūbi took control, they were prepared to subdue Naruto by any means necessary.

Naruto stripped off his jacket, tossing it to the shoreline. He looked down at his stomach, channeling a precise pulse of chakra. The intricate black lines of the Eight Trigrams Seal spiraled into existence, the newly acquired key formula resting directly beside it.

Reaching down, Naruto gripped the mechanism of the seal and, with a heavy exhale, gave it a deliberate, clicking twist.

Instantly, a geyser of dense, crimson chakra erupted within his coils. It wasn't malicious or burning like it had been in the past; it was a pure, unadulterated flood of raw power. Kurama's energy flowed freely through his veins, expanding his physical potential to terrifying new heights.

Closing his eyes, Naruto sank into a deep meditative stance, his physical surroundings fading away as his consciousness plummeted into the depths of his own mind.

The mindscape was identical to his memories—a vast, echoing subterranean sewer, its floor flooded with ankle-deep water.

Naruto stood before the towering, rusted iron bars of the cage. Above the massive lock, the paper tag reading 'Seal' fluttered in a phantom breeze. With a mere thought, Naruto exerted his will over the mental environment. The water beneath his feet surged, swirling into a concentrated miniature tidal wave that lifted him effortlessly into the air, creating a floating platform that brought him face-to-face with the paper seal.

He reached out, his fingers brushing the rough parchment. He prepared to rip it away.

Suddenly, a hand materialized from the shadows, gripping his wrist with a grip like iron.

"Don't do that."

Naruto froze, turning his head. Standing beside him, radiating a warm, golden chakra, was the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, in all his legendary glory.

Behind the bars, the massive, looming silhouette of the Nine-Tails didn't roar or smash against the cage. Instead, Kurama was lying comfortably on his paws, watching the interaction with the detached amusement of a spectator at a theater.

The great fox lazily flicked his tails. A surge of heavy, invisible natural energy washed over the cage, wrapping around Minato's spirit. Minato gasped softly, his ethereal form solidifying as his chakra signature spiked, anchored heavily by the fox's senjutsu.

Minato turned toward the cage, his blue eyes wide with shock, expecting the demon fox to bare its fangs.

"I gave him some of my nature chakra, brat," Kurama rumbled, his voice vibrating through the water. "It will stabilize your spirit so you can last much longer than before. Make sure you get this talk done right. And while you're at it, bring that loudmouthed woman out here too, so we can get this all over with at once."

Minato blinked, completely bewildered by the Nine-Tails' cooperative, almost bored demeanor. "Huh?"

He turned back to Naruto. The moment their eyes met, the mental link of the seal activated. A violent torrent of memories flooded Minato's consciousness. He saw everything. He saw the cold isolation of Naruto's childhood, the glaring eyes of the villagers, the expired milk on the counter. And then, he saw the transmigration—the awakening of a past soul, the shift in personality, the grueling, relentless training, the mastery of the Raisan, and the quiet, pragmatic alliance with the Fox.

Minato stumbled back, dropping Naruto's wrist. The crushing weight of his realization physically bowed his shoulders.

"You... you suffered so much for my mistake, huh, Naruto?" Minato whispered, his voice trembling with profound grief.

Naruto lowered his hand, his expression softening into a bitter, knowing smile. "My past self suffered a lot. But I only have his memories, not the raw emotional experience of that pain. I'm okay." Naruto glanced around the damp, gloomy sewer. "Let's talk somewhere a bit more quiet, shall we?"

Minato took a steadying breath and snapped his fingers.

The rusted iron and murky water shattered like glass. The scenery instantly transitioned into an endless, glowing white plane. The air felt warm and serene, illuminated by a soft, ambient light that seemed to radiate from nowhere and everywhere at once.

"How did you do that?" Naruto asked, genuinely impressed. "I've tried altering the broader architecture of the mindscape for a while, but I couldn't completely overwrite the cage's domain."

Minato offered a faint, sad smile. "You just need to isolate your conscious sector of the seal from the beast's containment network. It's a localized spatial isolation technique woven into the Eight Trigrams."

As they sat down on the smooth, glowing floor, Naruto immediately shifted onto his knees and bowed his head deeply until his forehead nearly touched the ground.

"I apologize," Naruto said, his voice ringing with absolute sincerity. "My soul—my past life's consciousness—overwrote the original Naruto. I took your son's place."

Minato's eyes softened. He reached out, his hand gently ruffling Naruto's spiky blonde hair.

"Raise your head, Naruto," Minato said quietly. "Your soul didn't overwrite anything. I can sense it. Both of your souls have merged; they are equal. You are my son. You are the same Naruto that Kushina and I brought into this world. Perhaps... perhaps the universe allowed this to happen precisely because of the heavy burden of the seal I placed on you."

They spoke quietly for a time, Minato explaining the intricacies of his final moments, his brow furrowing as he processed the state of the shinobi world from Naruto's memories. Because Kurama had stabilized his chakra, there was no ticking clock rushing their conversation.

Minato closed his eyes and performed a single-handed seal. "Let's bring her out."

The white plane fractured, dropping them seamlessly back into the damp reality of the sewer. A second burst of chakra flared beside Minato, and suddenly, Kushina Uzumaki stood before them.

Once again, Kurama's tails swayed, silently flooding her ethereal form with rich, stabilizing nature chakra. The influx of energy forcefully integrated Naruto's memories into her mind the exact moment she materialized.

Kushina gasped, her violet eyes wide with horror as she processed her son's life. Tears spilled freely down her cheeks.

"Oh, my baby..." Kushina sobbed, throwing her arms around Naruto and pulling him into a crushing, desperate hug. "What did those monsters do to you?"

Naruto gently hugged her back, offering quiet words of reassurance, but it was no use. After physically checking his face, arms, and shoulders to ensure he was whole, Kushina slowly turned around to face Minato.

The tears stopped. The sorrow vanished, instantly replaced by a terrifying, volcanic rage. The iconic red hair of the Habanero began to float into the air, defying gravity as it split into nine distinct, whip-like tails.

"I TOLD YOU!" Kushina shrieked, her voice echoing violently against the iron bars of the cage. "I told you this would happen, Minato! We could trust absolutely no one! Our son had to raise himself! He was eating expired food from a dirty convenience store! Where were our friends?! Where were the people we bled for?!"

Minato held up his hands defensively, sweating profusely. "Kushina, please, the village was recovering—"

"Don't you make excuses for them!" she roared, stalking toward him. "I understand Mikoto... I saw what happened to the Uchiha in his memories. But where were the others?! Where was Shikaku?! Where was Chōza?! Where was Shibi Aburame?!"

She whirled around, her fists trembling. "And where was the Third Hokage?! Oh, Kami help him, when I meet Hiruzen Sarutobi in the Pure Lands, I am going to rip his soul apart with my bare hands! He looked me in the eye and promised to protect him! You don't throw a four-year-old into a single-room apartment and hope he raises himself!"

Kurama rested his massive head on his paws, watching the domestic dispute with genuine entertainment. With a thought, Naruto casually released the lock on the gate. The heavy iron doors swung wide open, connecting the spaces fully, though Kurama made no move to leave his spot.

"And Jiraiya!" Kushina continued to rant, pacing furiously in front of the open cage. "The man we named his godfather! He wasn't even there! I should have known better than to tie my precious boy's fate to a perverted hermit! And don't even get me started on Danzō, Homura, and Koharu! I curse them all!"

Kushina was a tempest of fury, heavily influenced by the memories of the original world's lore that Naruto had unwittingly shared.

"And that brat, Obito!" Kushina yelled, throwing her hands in the air. "How dare he?! I thought he was a good boy, but to attack us on the night of my delivery?!"

"We can't entirely blame Obito for that, Kushina," Minato interjected softly, trying to calm the storm. "Rin's death broke him. And beyond that, he was severely manipulated by Madara Uchiha, and by proxy, Black Zetsu."

Kushina crossed her arms, her floating hair finally settling down as she huffed, looking toward Naruto with a mix of exhaustion and disbelief.

"Well," Kushina muttered, shaking her head. "I certainly can't believe that our ancestral grandmother, Kaguya, turned out to be that type of woman. This whole world is just one massive, dysfunctional mess, isn't it?"

Kushina then exerted her will over the mindscape, fundamentally altering the damp, oppressive sewer into a solitary, peaceful expanse of rolling green hills beneath a sky painted in perpetual twilight. A simple, sturdy wooden table sat in the center of the grass. Around it sat the fractured remains of the Namikaze-Uzumaki family.

Kurama was present as well, though not in his full, towering physical form. Instead, a massive avatar of the fox's face, sculpted from dense, glowing orange chakra, rested on the grass just behind the table, watching the family dynamic with narrowed, crimson eyes.

Naruto sat back in his chair, scratching the back of his head as he processed his mother's earlier rant. "Yeah, if you really look at it objectively," he muttered, "the whole Shinobi world is basically just the result of a highly dysfunctional, alien grandmother with severe controlling habits."

"It's a bit more complicated and weird than that, Naruto," Kurama's rumbling voice vibrated through the grassy plain.

Minato, leaning his elbows on the wooden table, blinked as a thought crossed his mind. He looked up at the giant chakra fox. "You know, if we look at this from a specific genealogical standpoint, Kurama... since you were created by the Sage of Six Paths, and the Uzumaki descend from his son Ashura, you are essentially Kushina's great-great-great-great-uncle."

Kurama slowly blinked his massive eyes. "Yes. I suppose you could say that."

Thwack!

Kushina's head snapped forward, viciously headbutting Minato right in the forehead. The Fourth Hokage groaned, rubbing his brow as his wife glared at him, her violet eyes flashing dangerously.

"Don't use your crappy imagination to narrate that kind of scenario, Minato," Kushina scolded, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. "We are way past that topic anyway. Focus."

Rubbing his own forehead in sympathy, Naruto leaned forward, shifting the conversation back to the present. He laid out his overarching plan, tapping his index finger against the wooden table. He explained how the influx of memories from his Konoha shadow clone confirmed that the Raisan—his perfected variation of the Flying Thunder God—was fully operational.

"With the spatial network established, I can travel anywhere instantly," Naruto explained, his tone dropping into a serious, tactical cadence. "Once this is done, Karin and I are going to track down the ruins of Uzushiogakure. I need to know what's left of the Land of Whirlpools. And more importantly... I need to know if Konoha had a hand in its destruction."

The temperature around the table seemed to drop. Naruto looked between his parents. "Did they?"

Minato frowned, shaking his head slowly, a shadow of deep regret crossing his ethereal features. "I don't know, Naruto. Even when I ascended to the position of Hokage, there were classified archives I was barred from accessing without the unanimous consent of the elder council. My term was incredibly short. I was drowning in the aftermath of the Third Great Shinobi War—trying to stabilize the village's crippled economy, managing the influx of orphans, and desperately trying to help my surviving shinobi, like Kakashi, who were suffering from severe PTSD. Investigating a destroyed allied nation was a luxury of time I simply didn't have."

"And I was kept on an even tighter leash," Kushina added bitterly, her gaze falling to the wood grain of the table. "Even when I became a Jōnin and had more supposed freedom after the war, I was never granted permission to travel to the ruins. I formally requested deployment to the Land of Whirlpools twice. The council explicitly denied me both times."

Naruto's eyes narrowed, the pieces of a very grim puzzle clicking into place in his mind. "Then we can almost certainly conclude that Konoha had a hand in the Uzumaki massacre. Specifically Danzō Shimura, Homura, Koharu, and Hiruzen."

"If you want my opinion," Kurama rumbled, his massive chin resting on the grass, "it is a hundred percent certainty."

The family turned toward the giant chakra construct, silently prompting him to continue.

"You humans live incredibly short lives, which makes you prone to acute jealousy," Kurama explained, his voice echoing with ancient, cynical wisdom. "Human greed is the greatest catalyst for both destruction and success in your world. Sometimes, that greed pushes a human toward the right path—like that Might Guy boy, whose 'greed' for strength made him forge his own body into a weapon capable of rivaling gods. But more often than not, it breeds rot."

Kurama shifted his gaze to Naruto. "Hashirama Senju possessed the world-altering power of Ashura. A power that you, Naruto, are currently tapping into with that pseudo-Sage body of yours following your reckless stunt in that toad oil pool—"

Before Kurama could even finish the sentence, Kushina's fist came down hard on the top of Naruto's head.

"Ow!" Naruto yelped, grabbing his scalp.

"That was incredibly irresponsible, young man!" Kushina scolded, her red hair fluttering ominously. "You could have turned into a stone statue!"

"As I was saying," Kurama continued, ignoring the domestic violence. "Hashirama had god-like power. Tobirama Senju possessed a mastery over water release that rivaled the absolute control of my siblings, Isobu and Saiken. They were untouchable. But then came Hiruzen and his peers."

The fox's crimson eyes narrowed into slits. "Think about the timeline. Kagami Uchiha, the only one in Hiruzen's squad with a powerful dojutsu bloodline, died under highly suspicious, unrecorded circumstances. Immediately following Tobirama's death and Hiruzen's rise to Hokage, the mighty Senju clan mysteriously began to 'vanish,' assimilating into the civilian populace and stripping their surnames to survive. Then began the horrific experiments with Hashirama's cells—which eventually produced that Yamato boy. Danzō committed countless atrocities, hoarding bloodlines and Sharingan, while Hiruzen conveniently turned a blind eye to it all."

Minato's breath hitched, the political reality of his predecessors suddenly looking much darker in the light of the fox's logic.

"And then there was Uzushiogakure," Kurama growled. "Hashirama, Tobirama, Madara, and Izuna were anomalies within their respective clans. But the Uzumaki? They were all monsters. Their vitality, their fūinjutsu, their taijutsu—they could bind tailed beasts and warp reality. Ashina Uzumaki, Mito's elder brother, could fight Hashirama and Madara to a standstill. They were, without a doubt, the strongest unified clan in the world."

The massive chakra avatar exhaled a heavy breath that rustled the grass around the table. "They were a fully established nation with their own Kage, their own civilians, and their own economy long before Konoha existed. They financed Hashirama's dream. They provided the military and financial hospitality needed to legitimize the Leaf Village to the Fire Daimyō. Furthermore, as direct descendants of Kaguya, the Uzumaki possessed the true, uncorrupted history of the world—something the Uchiha, Senju, and Hyūga had lost or altered."

Kurama locked eyes with Kushina, his gaze piercing. "And yet... when it came time to find a new vessel for me, Konoha didn't ask for a seasoned, powerful Uzumaki adult. Mito was in her late twenties when she sealed me. But they brought you, Kushina. A solitary, isolated child."

Naruto's blood ran cold. He finished the fox's grim deduction before his mother could speak.

"Because a child is easy to indoctrinate," Naruto said, his voice eerily quiet. "Before you could even properly adjust to life in Konoha, your entire clan was mysteriously wiped off the map, scattered into the wind like dust. With Uzushio gone, you were the last viable royal Uzumaki. You had no village backing you, no clan to demand your return. You were effectively orphaned and permanently tied to Konoha's military machine. It ensured that you, and any children you eventually had, would forever remain property of the Leaf."

Silence descended upon the table, heavy and suffocating. Kushina stared blankly at her hands, the devastating reality of her life's manipulation settling over her like a shroud.

"We need to look into the financial reports regarding your estate," Naruto stated, breaking the silence with cold, pragmatic resolve. "We need to see what happened to the Namikaze and Uzumaki assets after the Nine-Tails attack. If my theory holds, there is no inheritance left."

Minato closed his eyes, a look of profound defeat washing over his face. "They likely scavenged the vaults the moment I died. The village elders would have distributed our clan's wealth to stabilize the economy. Kushina's advanced sealing scrolls, the Uzumaki defensive texts... they were probably handed directly over to the Hyūga and the ANBU to secure their political loyalty."

No one spoke after that.

Beneath the painted, twilight sky of the mindscape, the family sat in bitter silence. Together, they let out a collective, exhausted sigh, finally understanding the sheer, terrifying depth to which the higher-ups of Konoha had orchestrated their suffering.
