Chapter 4: Night of the Hunt
Nocturne pulses with danger. Rain streaks neon across slick streets, turning puddles into mirrors of fire and steel. Tonight, the city isn't quiet—it's a battlefield.
Kael Voss crouches on a rooftop, mask on, eyes scanning. Beside him, Iris Han taps furiously on her portable terminal, manipulating city cameras, hacking street lights, and tracking Black Crown operatives.
"They're hitting three districts at once," Iris whispers, voice tense. "Weapons caches, communication hubs, and… civilians as distractions."
Kael narrows his eyes.
"Then we move faster."
THE AMBUSH BEGINS
Explosions rock the industrial district. Black Crown operatives fan out, drones scanning rooftops. Heavy gunfire rakes the streets below.
Kael drops into the shadows. Silent. Precise. Every move calculated. He neutralizes the first wave—guards taken out with headshots and knife strikes, bodies disappearing into alleyways like ghosts.
Iris guides him.
"Left flank, thermal drones! You've got a blind spot at the old subway tunnels!"
Kael rolls through the shadows, taking out drones with EMP grenades. Explosives rip through barricades, giving them a path to the subway below.
CIVILIANS IN DANGER
Screams echo. Trapped commuters in Line 3 subway cars. Black Crown operatives use civilians as cover.
Kael moves fast, shielding Iris, disarming mercenaries before they can fire. Every strike calculated to minimize collateral damage.
Iris hacks the train doors open remotely, allowing panicked passengers to escape.
"You're insane," she pants.
Kael smiles grimly.
"No. Just necessary."
ROOFTOP DUEL
Above, Mara Kade watches from a crane-mounted drone, controlling reinforcements remotely.
Kael senses movement above. Viktor Hale, the elite assassin, drops onto the rooftop.
"Fancy seeing you here," Viktor says, smirk hidden beneath his tactical mask.
Kael doesn't respond. They collide in a brutal mix of gun-fu and hand-to-hand combat across the rain-slick rooftop.
Iris, in the shadows, hacks the drone feed to blind Viktor's thermal vision. Kael uses the opening to slam Viktor into a support beam, leaving him unconscious… for now.
THE CITY ON EDGE
Explosions and gunfire echo across Nocturne. Civilians scatter, sirens wail, drones swarm the sky.
Kael drags Iris into a hidden maintenance shaft.
"Safe—for now," he mutters, scanning the streets.
Iris catches her breath.
"They're getting more organized. This isn't just Mara anymore… this is systematic. She knows us."
Kael's eyes narrow behind the mask.
"Then we hit their heart next."
ENDING NOTE
From a distant skyscraper, Mara Kade watches the chaos unfold. Her fingers dance across the console.
"You survived the first night," she murmurs, voice cold, calculating.
"But every move leaves a trace. And I'm already following yours."
Kael and Iris disappear into the city's shadows.
Nocturne isn't safe. Not for anyone.
