Chapter 36 - Chapter Six

After Malcolm cut off the line and taken the missing tenant file - April was left with a lot of work to be done

Her list didn't end with one tenant apparently.

But first things first- Elijah's phone.

She tiptoe to his bedroom door.

Elijah was already on his bed with the blanket over his head. What the hell was he hiding from?

He really did miss having Jason that morning.

April inhaled before exhaling and knocked on his door. Three light taps with a smile on her face and some cheer behind her voice.

"Elijah honey? I'm done with the phone. Can I come in?"

Elijah felt a knot in his stomach and a rush of something electric in his veins.

April waited for the response that never came.

She could easily open Elijah's door but that wasn't ideal anymore.

If it were Malcolm she'd have ambushed him but, that was Elijah. Her twin brother that reminded her time and time again that his privacy mattered.

"I'll leave your phone in the living room then," Said April thanking her lucky stars that Elijah was already fast asleep. Weird but convenient.

She walked to the living room and placed the phone on Elijah's favorite spot and left the apartment.

But Elijah wasn't asleep.

He took the blanket off his face looking at his bedroom door. Thinking to himself on where they started to drift apart.

It wasn't exactly that time when he was thrown outside the house for kissing a boy or the time when she decided to join the army...

He wasn't sure but something happened between them, he just didn't know what it was.

He remembered how much of a mother hen she was towards him. He'd be crying everytime he watches a movie with a tragic ending and she'd be right there ready with tissues and a good reason why it's strongly advised for boys to cry.

He remembered whenever he didn't do his homework or chores at home, he always depended on her to come to his rescue...

Where did it all go?

He could be dying in there but, April didn't bother to even open his door and make sure that he was okay.

But she would do that for anybody else out there.

The Mary sue of the building.

He was so heartbroken that even when the tears started to fall, he didn't notice.

He turned to the other side, curled himself so small.

April was on his way out when she saw Jason on their floor.

She was glad.

"You came for Elijah?"

Jason nodded, feeling shy.

April clasped her hands together, grateful. "I left his phone on the couch, can you help me give it to him?"

Jason frowned. Concerned. "Did something happen?"

"Why?" April asked, puzzled.

Jason shrugged, "I don't know... It's just that he's never one to miss my instrument lessons"

"Oh" Mumbled April sympathetic, "Then I guess today it's my fault that he didn't come"

"Why? What happened?"

"Madam Boy has gone missing since the morning and I went to wake him up when I realized that Malcolm wasn't in... He was angry" She then grew serious.

"He still is so tread carefully"

Jason heard everything she said but nothing was adding up. Elijah? Devastated over a missing tenant?

He went in and took the phone from the couch before heading to Elijah's room.

"Hey baby... I heard you had a rough morning"

Elijah turned to him, his face wet from crying. "Jason, am I that hard to love?"

Jason didn't know what was going on but, he got under the blanket, with him anyway.

"Oh, love you're like the easiest guy I have ever loved"

Elijah chuckled, "I'm being serious here"

"And you think I'm playing?"

Elijah read his face before he settled his head on Jason's chest, "Can you... Can you tell me when I get too much to handle?"

"Of course," Replied Jason kissing Elijah's forehead, "Apparently that's what boyfriends are for"

Elijah laughed.
