After obtaining the power of a true dragon, Anser had gained an increasingly deeper understanding of dragonkind.
From that dragon's roar, he could hear anger and resentment—emotions that were far from ordinary.
'Something's not right.'
He was the first to rush out of the villa. Sweeping his gaze around and seeing no sign of the dragon, he immediately beat his butterfly wings and flew up onto the roof, crouching in the shadows as he looked eastward.
Above the wilderness, a giant dragon was circling at low altitude, its flight movements strange—rising and falling erratically.
'An adult green dragon!' His eyes widened. 'Could it be that queen's offspring we saw before?'
Different dragons had distinct forms; even without seeing their color, one could distinguish them by size and physique alone.
"Roar—"
Another dragon's roar rang out, this one filled with pain.
The moment the sound faded, the dragon suddenly plummeted headfirst, crashing down into the midst of the kobolds and stirring up countless barks.
Anser froze. He thought he glimpsed a humanoid figure on the dragon's back.
'A big shot?'
He quickly dropped into the courtyard, took out the Rod of Security, summoned Nornoth, and swung himself onto its back.
Seeing this, Tim urgently asked, "What happened?"
"Someone's fighting an adult green dragon. I'm going to take a look. You all get ready to fight or evacuate," Anser instructed.
Tim's expression tightened. "Alright. Be careful."
When two powerful forces clash, at least one will be wounded, and the victor will very likely have the ability to change the course of the battle.
An adult green dragon had a Challenge Rating of 15. It wasn't legendary, but it possessed legendary abilities. To deal with it, one would need at least a level-17 quasi-legendary class professional.
If such a monster truly flew into a rage, no one in Bluewater City would likely be able to stop it.
The city was somewhat chaotic, but there were not many people on the streets. Nornoth broke into a run, heading east along the main road.
There was turmoil at the eastern gate. Before Anser even drew close, he saw the vanguard unit and the city-state guards scrambling down from the walls in panic.
'A rout without a fight?'
Just as doubt rose in his mind, a thunderous boom erupted. The city gate collapsed, and even a section of the wall crumbled with it. The guards who ran too slowly were crushed beneath the debris.
The surrounding people were stunned senseless. After standing frozen for a moment, they began fleeing in all directions in madness.
Boom—
Rubble exploded outward, revealing an enormous green dragon's head.
It shook the stones from its body with force, braced its legs atop the debris, and spread its massive dragon wings, its posture stretching wide.
It was so enormous that the hooked claws on its wings were thicker than a man. Under its shadow, the four- or five-meter-high city wall seemed pitifully low. With a casual press, the bricks shattered like toys.
The green dragon drove power into its legs and flapped its wings at the same time, attempting to take off—yet before it could, a figure flew out from the darkness and slammed heavily onto its back.
"Roar—"
The green dragon twisted and lashed out. Its long tail swept countless stones into the air, smashing them into the wall and the ground with force no less than cannon shells.
'There really is a big shot!'
Anser's heart was pounding. He hurriedly hid in a distant alleyway, then climbed onto a rooftop to watch the battle.
The sky was dim, and he couldn't see clearly, but the dragon's fighting caused far too much commotion. Wherever it passed, houses collapsed and buildings caved in—almost no structure could withstand its charge or a sweep of its tail.
Several times it tried to take off; once it even succeeded, but each time it was knocked back down by that class professional.
The entire city had fallen into chaos. Cries, screams, and wailing rang out without end; panicked figures were everywhere, fleeing without any sense of direction.
The green dragon was doing it on purpose, trying to make its opponent hesitate for fear of harming civilians, but that class professional had no intention of going soft. He simply did his best to keep the battlefield on the main streets.
'So strong…'
Anser watched with his blood boiling, tempted to join in, but he was only a level-6 class professional. He wouldn't survive a single breath weapon; going up there would be nothing but getting in the way.
And if he ended up angering the big shot and got beaten up along with the dragon, that would be ridiculous.
Still, the city wall had been breached—in a completely unexpected way!
Anser was a bit worried the kobolds would seize the chance to attack, but he soon realized he'd been overthinking it.
Looking into the distance, corpses lay everywhere outside the city. A mass of dark green mist drifted about, spreading in all directions—touch it and you'd drop, get it on you and you'd fall. Nearly all the kobolds that could still move had already fled.
Just then, he faintly heard one shrill whistling sound after another in the night sky.
He looked up and saw wyverns streaking over Bluewater City, circling around the battlefield as if they meant to support their green dragon master.
Anser counted carefully, his expression sinking. "Seven!"
That was only the number in the wyvern guard—without even counting any half-dragon riders that might exist.
The green dragon had powerful reinforcements. On the human side, everyone ran faster than the next; even the most elite vanguard unit didn't dare get close.
'Wait—there really are reinforcements.'
No sooner had Anser finished complaining than he turned and spotted figures quietly closing in toward the battlefield, their blue mage robes glaringly conspicuous.
'The Order of Blue Fire? Aren't they a cult?'
He immediately reacted: the Order of Blue Fire didn't necessarily have a sudden surge of righteousness. More likely, greed was at work—they had their eyes on that green dragon.
A spellscar ritual required sorcerer's blood, but what sorcerer's blood could possibly compare to true dragon blood?
And their actions proved his suspicion. They were actually carrying bottles and jars, collecting dragon blood wherever the green dragon had passed—completely looking like the type who would risk their lives for money!
But no one paid them any mind.
The battle was still ongoing, moving from the eastern part of the city along the main street toward the western bay.
Those wyverns finally couldn't hold back anymore and began diving to attack the human class professional.
The big shot was still skirmishing with the green dragon, seeming unconcerned. Yet the moment the wyverns drew close, he struck with lightning speed.
Whoosh—whoosh—
The shrill sound had only just reached Anser's ears when two wyverns suddenly stiffened midair. Their wings went limp, and one after the other they slanted downward, crashing into the city.
Unable to withstand a single blow!
But this bought the green dragon a bit of time. It stopped trying to fly and instead sprinted wildly along the main street, smashing through the city gate and heading straight for the bay.
That class professional gave chase from behind, moving even faster than the green dragon. His gleaming bald head was extremely conspicuous.
'The big shot doesn't seem to be in great shape.'
Anser had sharp eyes. By the city lights, he could clearly see that the man's armor was tattered and that he was covered in blood.
After a moment's thought, he mounted up and followed on horseback, not daring to get too close.
The green dragon plunged into the water like a giant serpent. The bald man pursued relentlessly. Man and dragon clashed fiercely in the water, sending sprays flying everywhere.
Facing a green dragon adept at aquatic combat, the bald man did not appear to be at a disadvantage.
The green dragon opened its jaws and exhaled. Braving the poison, the man leapt onto its head, grabbed it from behind, and forcibly twisted. The violent toxic breath lashed wildly in all directions, sweeping across the wyverns diving in, the fish-men, and the surface of the sea. The air and seawater turned a sickly green.
One wyvern plunged headfirst into the water. The fish-men fared even worse—one after another they floated up, bellies upward, their skin tinted green. It seemed they would not survive.
Neither side in the battle paid them any attention. Seeing that the bald man had been poisoned, the green dragon released a massive cloud of venomous miasma centered on itself.
It was hard to say whether that poisonous fog had any effect on the bald man, but it certainly worked on the fish-men. The seawater, which had just begun to clear somewhat, turned green again, and the slower fish-men dropped dead where they were.
Watching from afar, Anser felt something was off.
The green dragon's vitality was formidable. Even after losing so much blood, it was still lively and vigorous.
In contrast, the bald class professional's condition seemed poor. Just now, his skin had turned bluish-green, an unsettling sight.
'The big shot isn't about to die, is he?'
He turned to look again. The situation in the city was terrible. Everyone was running, fleeing eastward toward the inland.
The dragon had come, the city had fallen, and human courage had gone with it.
There was another city, Antak, to the south of Bluewater City, but it could not possibly hold so many people. For many, fleeing had become the first choice.
No one mocked them—just as no one who saw a dragon could keep a calm mind.
'This all happened a bit too suddenly.'
He had thought tonight would be a defensive battle for the city; he had not expected it to evolve into this.
The good news was that the human side had suffered only light losses. The worst hit was the green dragon's side—no one knew how many kobolds, fish-men, wyverns, and half-dragons had died.
