But when his feet hit the pavement outside DOV Foods headquarters, he stopped dead in his tracks.
People were streaming out of the building, not the usual calm lunch-hour flow, but a chaotic rush of bodies pushing through the revolving doors.
An ambulance sat at the curb, lights flashing red and blue across the glass facade, the siren wailing so loud it drowned out the traffic noise.
Paramedics rushed past him wheeling a stretcher, the person on it groaning and clutching their stomach.
Another stretcher followed. Then another.
"What's happening?" Lucian's breath caught in his throat as he wondered inwardly.
He scanned the crowd frantically, his enhanced senses picking up fragments of panicked conversation.
