Vanessa didn't dare meet his gaze. His eyes were too sharp, too frightening. She suddenly began wailing loudly, "What sin have I committed to have such an unfilial son like you! You marry a wife and forget your mother. Not only do you refuse to support the family now, but when you come back, you interrogate me like this!"
She cried and howled, as if she were the one who had been grievously wronged.
Mary frowned deeply. The noise was growing louder and more irritating by the second. No wonder the original Mary had been driven to slam the table in anger back then.
Thinking of that, Mary raised her hand and slapped the table hard.
"Enough!" she shouted.
"We're asking you a question right now. Who exactly are you crying for?"
The fragile dining table simply could not withstand Mary's furious slap. With a sharp crack, the entire table collapsed. Bowls, plates, and basins crashed to the ground, scattering everywhere as shards and soup splashed across the floor.
