Kevin froze where he stood, his mind going completely blank.
None of them had brought guns when they got out of the car.
In their eyes, Mary was just a frail woman, someone who could be easily intimidated and dragged away without effort. That bit of arrogance and carelessness had cost him everything. In the blink of an eye, three of his subordinates had fallen, lifeless on the ground.
His confidence was shattered. Fear surged up like icy water flooding his chest.
"You… what do you want?" Kevin stammered as he staggered backward. "Do you know who we are?" Even as he spoke, his eyes darted toward the car behind him. If he could just get back there, grab the guns, maybe he still had a chance.
Mary let out a soft, mocking laugh and stepped toward him, the gun steady in her hand. "Afraid now?" she asked coolly. "When you bullied those women before, when they knelt and begged you, were you ever afraid then? Did you ever give them a chance to leave?"
