Mary lifted her gaze toward the distance and soon realized that John and Luke were already up. The two of them walked out of the woodshed, heads lowered as they spoke in hushed voices, their figures half-hidden by the morning mist.
"En. Aurelius, be careful on your way out," Mary said softly.
Aurelius Von Obsidian nodded, deliberately taking a detour and leaving by another path to avoid being noticed.
Thinking of Rose, Mary frowned slightly. That girl had been busy taking care of Ethan all night. She probably didn't even have time to prepare breakfast.
With that thought, Mary quickened her steps toward the kitchen. Before she even reached the door, she saw thin smoke rising from the chimney.
She paused in surprise. Rose was already up and cooking?
Mary pushed the door open and went inside. Sure enough, Rose was bustling about. A large pot of porridge simmered over the fire, and she was cutting side dishes on the chopping board with practiced movements.
