Chapter 1 - The Assignment

Elisa Vega, a 28 year old woman, had been shaped by the agency long before she understood freedom. One evening, as she walked through the steel corridor of the underground facility, the cold air and sharp scent of disinfectant felt familiar. Trained from childhood, refined through strict discipline, and molded into the perfect operative, her entire life had been designed for missions . Every corner, every surface, every procedure was controlled. The person she once was no longer existed, only the agent they had created.

The corridor felt colder than usual. Her footsteps echoed against polished black tiles as she worked , paying attention to every shadow and every hum of machinery.

Earlier that evening, elisa secure comm device buzzed. A single encrypted message from Director Voss popped up; "Report to my office immediately. Do not delay." No explanation. Elisa checked her credentials, adjusted her gloves, and continued down the corridor.

At the final checkpoint, she slowed down, removed her glove, and pressed her hand onto the illuminated biometric pad. The scanner's light blinked red, then green. With a low mechanical hiss, the metal doors parted, and granted her passage.

Director Adrian Voss, head of the covert program, a man feared even by the people who served him, a strategist with a calm, chilling exterior and a mind that never stopped analyzing, was already waiting inside. He stood behind his massive glass desk with the skyline behind him . His silver hair was neatly combed back, his suit ironed to razor precision. But it wasn't his appearance that made people freeze,It was his eyes, cold, sharp, assessing. The kind of eyes that calculate value before considering humanity

Then he said without looking up"Elisa," "You're late.

"She wasn't. She was never late.

But she also knew better than to correct him.

"Apologies, sir." Her voice remained calm, steady, devoid of emotion Just the way he liked it, Just the way she'd been shaped to speak.

Voss finally lifted his head, setting his pen down with a click, he asked her to "Sit."

Elisa obeyed.

He stared at her for several long seconds, measuring her posture, her breathing, even her micro-expressions. Elisa didn't blink. Her training demanded neutrality, and she delivered it flawlessly.

"You have completed twelve infiltrations," he began, "Seven high-risk extractions, three destabilisation. Zero failures." His lips curved into something resembling a smile. "You continue to be the most effective asset in this program."

Elisa nodded and said "Thank you, sir." "You should be proud." "I am," she lied smoothly.

But pride wasn't something Elisa felt often. Not because she lacked accomplishment, but because the agency had conditioned that out of her along with countless other things like fear, attachment, curiosity, and the right to make her own choices.

Voss leaned back, crossing his arms. "Your next assignment will be your most difficult so far, possibly your last, if executed properly."

She stayed calm ,letting him continue.

He tapped a button on his desk, and the lights dimmed automatically. A large screen descended from the ceiling behind him, flickering to life with the image of a man named Luca Moretti .

The room seemed smaller with his image on the screen. Dark hair, storm-gray eyes, jaw sharp as a knife, Powerful, and Dangerous. But it wasn't his looks that made the atmosphere shift. It was his reputation.

"You've heard the name, I assume," Voss said.

"Yes, sir," Elisa replied

"Good."He stepped aside, letting the screen display a series of photos, blueprints, surveillance footage, and proof of his world..

"Luca Moretti, a 32 year old internationally known crime leader, head of the feared Moretti Syndicate. A mafia king, a ghost in the underworld,a man whose empire stretched across continents ,and whose enemies disappeared quietly

born into violence, raised by blood,

Elisa's face remained neutral, while images weighed heavy on her mind.

"You want him killed?" she asked.

Voss shook his head, almost amused, then he said,"If it was that simple, we wouldn't need this conversation. Every attempt to get inside his inner circle has failed, every agent who tried, was found dead."

Elisa met his gaze evenly, and asked "and you believe I can succeed where they failed?."

"I don't believe it," he corrected. "I know."

He walked toward her slowly, clasping his hands behind his back. He added ,"Your new identity has been carefully crafted. You'll operate under the name Elena Cruz. An International art buyer, cultured, charming, with just enough mystery to attract a man like Moretti."

Her stomach tightened, yet her stomach betrayed nothing.

"You will embed yourself into his world," Voss continued, "earn his trust, access his systems, and uncover all internal vulnerabilities and once we have enough evidence, we dismantle the entire organization."

"And the end objective?" Elisa asked

"To destroy the Moretti empire once and for all," Voss said, tapping the screen to enlarge Luca's face.

Elisa studied him,and noticed there was a faint whisper in the photo, something like loneliness. A man who built walls not just for power, but for survival

"Sir," she said slowly, "if he is so careful, so protected, how do you suggest I approach him without raising suspicion?"

Voss turned off the screen, plunging the room back into soft ambient lighting.

"You won't approach him," he said.

"You will make him approach you."

Elisa blinked once, with the barest hint of surprise.

Voss clasped his hands again, walking back to his desk,he said "Luca Moretti does not respond to typical seduction or manipulation strategies. He is perceptive to a fault ,emotionally closed, painfully observant. He trusts nearly no one,not even his second-in-command."

He paused.

"And that is exactly why you will succeed."

Elisa felt a shift in the air, like danger mixing with inevitability.

Voss continued."Your psychological profile makes you uniquely suited," "You are unreadable, controlled, adaptable. A perfect blank slate. Men like Moretti are not drawn to chaos, they are drawn to calm." His eyes hardened.

"And you are calm, Elisa, even in danger"

She didn't flinch.

"You will get close to him," he repeated. "Closer than anyone."

"And when I do?" Elisa asked."You destroy him."

Silence stretched across the office, thick, suffocating.

Elisa inhaled slowly through her nose, and then asked ,"What are the parameters".

Voss handed her a slim black folder. "Identity background, behavioral notes, character references, bank accounts, and approved social circles. Your new apartment in Milan is already prepared. You leave at dawn."

She flipped briefly through the folder, passport copies, travel documents and rental agreements.

It was perfect as always.

Voss watched her carefully as she scanned the details, then added,"You'll report to Agent Rowan Hale,he will manage your communications and intel transfers."

Rowan. Her old partner, someone who understood her better than almost anyone, and would do anything for her. Elisa's chest stirred faintly, controlled, measured, but nothing emotional.

Voss continued,"You'll be introduced into Luca's world through an upcoming charity gala in Milan." "He rarely attends these events outside of obligation, but our intel confirms he will be present."

Her eyes lifted. "What's the angle?"she asked.

"Seduction Of course."He said calmly and with confidence

Elisa closed the folder, with her fingers steady, she said,"I will execute the mission."

"I know you will," Voss said walking behind her, resting a heavy hand on her shoulder. "Elisa, you were raised for this. You are the agency's masterpiece."

A familiar hollowness spread through her chest and she nodded once.

He moved back to his desk, dismissing her with a flick of his hand, and then told elisa to,"get some rest, then he added, "Tomorrow begins your most important mission of your life,"

"and remember, failure is not an option. Not this time."

She stood, bowed slightly, and turned for the door. Her fingers brushed the metal handle when Voss spoke again.

"Elisa,"she paused."This man is not like your previous targets." His voice shifted, colder, heavier. "Luca Moretti is dangerous, brilliant, and he will kill you without hesitation if he suspects anything."

"I understand."

"And if he doesn't kill you…"voss's eyes cut into hers ,"We will."

Elisa's breath caught, just for the smallest fraction of a moment, she nodded and walked out.As Elisa moved down the hallway, her mind replayed memories of training sessions, sleepless nights, silent punishments, the constant reminders that she was built, shaped, and perfected for missions exactly like this one.

Her life had never been hers.

Her choices had been crafted.

Her destiny was predetermined.

She reached her small living quarters, unlocked the door, and stepped inside. Everything was neatly arranged, her suitcases packed, her clothes folded, her weapons sealed in secure cases.Everything were prepared for a life she didn't truly live.

Elisa sat on the edge of her bed, opening the folder again.Luca Moretti's photo stared back at her.

He looked like a man who had built walls upon walls, structures no infiltrator could enter. A fortress of flesh and bone.

She closed the file and began reviewing her new identity again.Name, age, accent modifications, skillset, and fabricated history. She had been many women in her life and Elena Cruz was just one more mask, yet something about this mission felt heavier! More fragile, more dangerous.

Elisa moved to the window and looked down at the dark sprawling city. She traced her reflection faintly in the glass, sharp brown eyes, controlled expression, long dark hair cascading over her shoulder,a weapon,a ghost,a lie wrapped in human form.

While in her quarters,Her comm device buzzed. It was Agent Rowan Hale. She answered.

"Elisa," Rowan's voice came through, steady but with a weight she recognized. "I heard about the assignment."she replied,"is it straightforward like the others?"

Rowan exhaled softly and stayed quiet for a moment, then he said, "Just be careful. Moretti's a different kind of monster."

"I know what he is," Elisa said quietly.

"No," Rowan whispered,"You only know what they've told you."

His tone held something she couldn't decipher.Something dangerous, something human.

"I'll check in before your flight," he added. "Good night, Elisa."The line clicked off.

Elisa stared at the quiet device, feeling a faint ripple of unease, and then she thought,"Rowan never sounded unsettled, yet he had tonight".She pushed the thought aside.

Emotions were a weakness.

Doubt was a weakness.

Hesitation was fatal.

Elisa stood up, gathered the folder, and walked to her desk. She lit a small candle,a ritual from her childhood she barely remembered, and closed her eyes briefly.

Tomorrow, she would enter the lion's den.

Tomorrow, she would step into Luca Moretti's world.

Tomorrow, she would begin the mission she was trained her entire life to execute.

She opened her eyes,and froze.

The candle flame flickered violently, not from wind, but from the sudden presence she felt behind her.

A shadow moved across the room.

A silhouette.Someone was inside her quarters.

Elisa's hand snapped toward the hidden blade in her boot, swift, and silent.

But before she could grip it, a voice she recognized murmured from the darkness.

"Elisa… we need to talk. Now."The voice did not belong to Rowan. It did not belong to Voss.It did not belong to anyone she expected.

Elisa's heartbeat stilled, because the person standing in her room…was a ghost she thought she would never see again.
