Chapter 18 - Shadow Clone Training

After returning home with the sandbag, Cheng Tian was scolded by his mother for "not knowing how to be careful." Then, Cheng Tian and his father used a needle and thread to mend the damaged parts. Cheng Tian then placed the sandbag in his room so Froakie could practice whenever it wanted.

Of course, no more of that Spiral Water Pulse!

However, Froakie did develop a move itself from watching Japanese anime, which is indeed commendable. It's just that Cheng Tian wasn't very happy about it.

The next training goal was clear: enhance Ice Punch while diligently mastering the Rasengan-style Water Pulse. Ice Punch against the sandbag was still fine.

"Froakie, when you have nothing else to do, practice that Water Pulse more to enhance your perception of Water-type energy. Aim to be able to use a normal-sized Water Pulse in two weeks."

"Froakie!" Froakie understood, but today's training was enough, and Cheng Tian didn't ask Froakie to train anymore. So, Froakie just practiced Ice Punch on the sandbag for a while.

It was already late, and Cheng Tian and Froakie were lying on the bed, playing on their phones.

Froakie really loved watching Naruto, and Cheng Tian didn't say anything about it. He watched with Froakie, treating it as a classic rewatch.

This time, Froakie once again expressed envy when it saw the protagonist use Shadow Clone. "Actually, you can use Shadow Clone too, Froakie."

Froakie's eyes lit up; it had been coveting this skill for a long time. Seeing this, Cheng Tian went online to search for how to train a Pokémon for Shadow Clone.

Although the results varied, the general method was the same. It was very simple: continuously increase the Pokémon's speed.

At first, only faint afterimages would appear, then Shadow Clones would emerge. The initial number wouldn't be many, but as speed increased, the number of Shadow Clones would grow.

However, the effect might not be like in Japanese anime, where they can attack with the main body. This skill is more about increasing one's speed and confusing enemies. There is only one true body, and only one can attack.

Nevertheless, without specialized identification skills, it would be difficult to find the real body unless each clone was defeated one by one.

Cheng Tian nodded; this skill was still very practical. Tomorrow, he could take Froakie to the training room to exercise on the treadmill. He estimated it would show results quickly.

After making up his mind, Cheng Tian watched a few more episodes with Froakie before going to sleep.

The next day at school, Bai Yun complained to Cheng Tian, looking a bit troubled: "Tian, yesterday I also watched Japanese anime with Chimchar, but why is it different from Froakie's situation?"

Cheng Tian looked confused: "Huh? How would I know? What happened to Chimchar?"

Bai Yun said with a plaintive look, "I also tried to show Chimchar Naruto, but Chimchar didn't seem very interested."

Cheng Tian patted Bai Yun's shoulder comfortingly: "It's okay, not everyone likes watching Japanese anime. It's normal for Chimchar not to like it."

Bai Yun shook his head: "Chimchar didn't like watching Naruto, so I didn't force it. I thought I'd go do some homework, but when I came out a little later, Chimchar had started watching Japanese anime again."

"Ah? Isn't that a good thing?"

Bai Yun said with a serious expression: "It was watching 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure'!"

Cheng Tian: |ʘᗝʘ|!!!!

After his shock, Cheng Tian looked at the distressed Bai Yun. "Pffft..."

"Did you just laugh?"

"No, no... *chuckle*..."

"You still say no (╬•̀dish•́)"

"Sorry, I really can't help it... Hahahahaha!"

"Go to hell!" Bai Yun snapped.

Cheng Tian consoled him: "It's okay, you should think of it this way: 'JoJo' is at least a passionate battle anime. It's better than Chimchar liking 'School Days', right?"

"You don't know, Chimchar was so excited after watching it last night, it kept going 'Muda Muda Muda...' at the air..."

*chuckle*...

"You're still laughing!!!!"

While they were bickering, Lin Lin returned from outside and saw the two of them. "What are you two doing? Do you have to be so affectionate?"

Stopping their playful fight, Cheng Tian asked curiously, "Lin Lin, don't you usually train Pachirisu?"

"Hmph hmph..." When it came to training, Lin Lin proudly puffed out her small chest. "How could that be? Who do you think I am? I make Pachirisu train every day."

Just then, a "crunch crunch" sound came from the hood of her yellow hoodie.

"Ah! Pachirisu, don't leave chestnut shells in my hood again!" Lin Lin said, reaching into her hood.

"Pach!" Pachirisu chirped, jumping out of the hood, still holding a chestnut and continuously eating it.

"It seems Lin Lin really hasn't neglected training." The system displayed Pachirisu's attribute panel, and a skill appeared in the Taught Moves section.

Protect (Lv2)

Lin Lin probably found a Protect TM for Pachirisu. Now Pachirisu truly became the legendary White Demon.

"Ugh... Yun, help me get the chestnut shells out of my hood, I can't reach..."

Bai Yun said grumpily, "Alright, alright, I'll get them for you." Even as he said it, Bai Yun suddenly pulled the hood over Lin Lin's head.

"Ah! You stinky Bai Yun! You just wait!" Lin Lin lunged at Bai Yun, flailing her arms. Bai Yun simply held her head back with an outstretched arm.

So annoying, can't even hit him! Lin Lin huffed, then suddenly opened her mouth and bit Bai Yun's hand.

"Ah! Lin Lin, are you a dog?! Let go!" Bai Yun shrieked, finally managing to pull his hand free. It was covered in glistening saliva.

Cheng Tian watched the two of them, feeling speechless. I suspect you two are showing affection, but I have no proof... After school, Cheng Tian and Bai Yun went to the training room again.

As soon as he saw Chimchar, he noticed it was using Thunder Punch on the sandbag. And the skill level of Thunder Punch had increased, reaching Lv4.

Hmm... it seems this kid has really been JoJo-fied... but this combativeness is still commendable.

Bai Yun continued to train Chimchar's punches. Cheng Tian released Froakie.

"Croak."

"Froakie, today we're going to practice Shadow Clone. Come on, I'll take you to the treadmill."

Cheng Tian and Froakie went to a Pokémon-specific treadmill. He had Froakie jump on, then turned on the treadmill.

The treadmill belt began to move. It was on the lowest setting, but even this speed was equivalent to about the fourth setting on a human treadmill. After all, a Pokémon's physical strength cannot be compared to a human's.

Well... not counting women who can fight Machamp... "Okay, I'm going to speed it up now. Tell me if it feels too fast." With that, Cheng Tian increased the setting.

He increased it to the third setting, at which point the belt's speed was quite terrifying. Cheng Tian felt that if he stepped on it at that moment, his face would surely be ground flat.

Froakie was already starting to struggle. Cheng Tian didn't continue to increase the setting but maintained this speed.

After about 10 minutes, Froakie was already feeling tired, and its running feet gradually couldn't keep up with the belt's speed.

"Keep going, Froakie! When you feel tired, grit your teeth and keep pushing. Run a little longer, and that's when you'll break through your limits."

Of course, Cheng Tian was just giving Froakie verbal encouragement; after all, at such a fast speed, he would fall immediately if he got on. These were the words his teacher told him when he ran 1000 meters for his junior high school physical exam.

"Froakie!" Hearing this, Froakie continued to grit its teeth and persevere.

After another three to five minutes, Froakie was really on the verge of collapsing. Its leg muscles were tense from exertion, but it kept going.

"A little more effort, just a little more..."

Just then, Froakie's rapidly running form slowly began to blur, with faint afterimages appearing behind it.

"Keep going! Froakie! You're almost there!" Cheng Tian said, taking out his phone to record.

But Froakie had truly reached its physical limit and couldn't keep up, getting thrown off.

"Froakie!" Cheng Tian, with quick reflexes, dove and caught Froakie, so it didn't fall to the ground.

"Froakie..." Lying in Cheng Tian's arms, Froakie gasped for air. Cheng Tian sat up from the ground and gently stroked Froakie's head. "You did great, Froakie."
