Chapter 34: New Tools

A week later, Harry was relaxing in his house while reading a book.

He heard the small door that connected the house with Morgan's shop open, and she walked inside.

"I know this is technically your house, but… can't you at least knock?" Harry said.

"Mmm?" Morgan raised an eyebrow. "Technically, none of these properties are mine. By that, I mean that I never paid a single coin for them. I just took them when Knockturn Alley was shaping up to be what it is now."

"So you stole them?" Harry questioned her.

"Back then, the land had no owner, so no, I did not steal anything. I just took a small piece for myself. I could have taken much more if I wanted to."

"I bet the Ministry of Magic didn't like that," Harry said.

"No, they didn't. They actually fought me for it. I believe I extinguished half a dozen wizard families back then." Morgan could not help but smile proudly when reminiscing about it.

"Morgan…" Harry now looked a bit disappointed.

"They started it," she responded. "You should have seen how scared they were when I conjured a comet over their Ministry of Magic. I think they now have laws in place to avoid future conflicts with me." Morgan chuckled.

"Grand Sorceries are not a tool to scare the masses." Harry obviously didn't approve of this.

"But they work so well for that." Morgan shrugged. "They have left me alone since then, which is good, because I didn't want to bring unnecessary attention to myself."

"Yeah, I know…" Harry's tone became more somber.

"Sorry to interrupt your reading. I came to show you this." Morgan dropped the newspaper she had been holding onto his lap.

Harry took it and gave it a quick look. The front page was about him. "I'm officially missing. When are they going to stop looking for me?"

"That's the thing… they have already done that," Morgan said. "Of course, the Minister of Magic is never going to openly admit it, but I have some reliable information brokers who told me this much. The Director of the Auror Department has stopped the search, as it was taking too much of their resources, and for a month they have found nothing."

"So, can I finally relax a bit?"

"Kind of… You would still need to use a disguise if you are going somewhere public. Everyone in the entire country is keeping their eyes open for any sign of the Boy Who Lived," Morgan explained.

"Mmm… if I had access to my old tower and all my books, I recall having a ritual capable of altering one's looks in a permanent way. I never used it before on myself, so I do not remember the exact details," Harry muttered.

"Forget it. Trying to find your old things from Camelot is a pointless cause. It's been too long, and most was destroyed during the fall of the Kingdom," Morgan said. "The only things I could save are currently in my basement."

"But you claimed to have found some clues about the black tome. You know which one… I must retrieve that one no matter what," Harry insisted. He could let go of his other belongings, but not of that one.

Morgan frowned. She knew of that book, of course. It was the one that contained the sealing spell that left her trapped for the last 1,500 years.

"As I said before, I have heard some rumors of a tome that fits the description, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes, so it could be some other black book and not the one you had."

"Still… I would very much like t—"

"I'll tell you what." Morgan interrupted him and grasped the chain coming out of her chest. "You remove these, and I will tell you everything I know about the whereabouts of that book and your little magical staff."

"What? You promised me to tell me about my staff!" Harry sounded outraged. All he knew so far was that it was likely in the hands of a Spanish collector, but Morgan had refused to give him the details so far.

"I never promised such a thing. And besides…" Her eyes moved to the front door. "We have a visitor."

Harry had also noticed the arrival of someone, and he could also tell who it was. "Has he completed the work?"

"Let's go see." Morgan walked back to her shop.

The main door in Harry's house was sealed, so one could only leave by passing through the shop in any case.

Before the old man could knock, the door of Madam Yafel's shop opened wide, and she stood on the other side, waiting.

"Come in."

"Greetings, Madam Yafel." The man bowed politely before going inside the shop while carrying a small wooden box under his arm.

Harry emerged into the room and politely greeted the old man. "It's nice to see you again, Sir." He never learned the full name of this person, only that his first name was Hector, but it didn't feel right to call him just by his first name.

The old man returned the gesture. "Hello, young man. I have something very special for you." He never learned Harry's name, and he never asked for it either. He knew better than that.

"Let's see it then." Morgan urged him as she tapped on the counter.

The old man nodded and brought the box, placing it carefully on top of the shop's counter and opening it under the watchful eyes of Harry and Morgan.

"Beautiful work, Sir." Harry admired the newly crafted wand.

"Mmm… not bad." Morgan nodded.

"It is, without doubt, the best piece I have ever produced. Even that old fool of Ollivander would have to recognize its magnificence." The old man moved the box closer to Harry. "Go on, pick it up. Let's see how well it matches with you."

Harry glanced down at the green wand and went to grab it. The moment his fingers touched the wood, he felt a powerful convection being formed, and his magic responded in kind.
