Finally, Stephan's day of departure arrived. That morning, he first returned the rented car. His leaving cast a pall of sadness over Mr. and Mrs. Manalo; the house had felt so full and lively during his stay. His flight was scheduled for the evening. Both Manalos, and Kirana, who had a day off; came to see him off at the airport. ✈
"Uncle, Aunty, thank you so much for having me all this time," he said before the final goodbye.
"Son, what are you saying? We'll be the lonely ones after you leave. Give your father our regards," Mr. Manalo replied, his voice thick with emotion. 💞
"Of course, Uncle. I'll tell Dad you remember him. It's hard for me too, leaving you all. I've been so happy these past few days," Stephan said, genuinely moved.
"Oh, son, travel safely. You still have some time, don't you? When is your flight?" asked Mrs. Manalo, dabbing at her eyes. ⌚
"The flight is in about two hours, Aunty. I came early because I had a few more things to sort out here," he explained.
"Be careful, you silly boy. Come back to see us," Kirana chimed in. 🌋
"Definitely. You've been like a sister to me. I'm sorry I couldn't meet Anisa this time. I'll come again, okay?" he said, looking at her.
He then picked up his suitcase, bid them a final farewell, and headed toward the security checkpoint. He turned back one last time to wave. He saw them standing there—Mr. and Mrs. Manalo with misty eyes, Kirana with a wistful smile. They waved back.
Then, he walked through the gates and disappeared from their sight, leaving behind a quiet emptiness where his vibrant presence had been. 🛫
