Raina's POV "Raina..." A familiar voice called out and I turned in its direction. It was none other than my twin sister, Reya. Her oval shaped face was full of smiles as she skidded towards me, and I could not help but smile at how carefree she was. We were so alike and yet, so different. She threw all cares to the wind when doing things, while I put in my all in whatever I do. She was a lover girl, easily swayed by the men of our pack while I was as stoic as a rock. We were like fire and ice, as father would describe and honestly, I thought that was an exceptionally cool way to describe I and Reya. "Where have you been?" She called out breathlessly when she finally reached the entrance of the town hall, where I stood. "Home and around?" I grimaced. "Or..." She tilted her head "You were trying to decide if you will come or not." I sighed in defeat and threw my hands in the air "Yeah, you're right Reya. I really don't want to attend the love gala, I don't even intend on finding a mate tonight!" "Well, we're here already, and we'll go in now." Before I knew it, Reya had hooked her arm around mine and dragged me into the hall. I hid my face in embarrassment as she walked around, finding a suitable seat for me. She was performing with a group of teenagers so she had no seat in the gathering. "There," She plopped me down on an empty seat "Don't go anywhere. I'll be on stage in a few minutes." I nodded, looking anywhere but at her as she sashayed to the back of the stage. "Great. You shouldn't have come in the first place, now we're stuck here." My wolf, Aris whined inwardly. "Let's just watch her perform." I whispered under my breath, and rubbed my palms on the jeans I was putting on. I hated gatherings, hated been in the crowd and having to talk with people about sweet nothings. I loved my family, my job at Bridge's Cafe, and my space. Our pack is a small but versatile one. We did almost everything, ranging from difficult tasks to simple ones. Peace and unity was our watchword and everyone thrived in the pack. There were small companies and buildings littered in the town, and a host of other necessary organizations. Father held a position in the pack hierarchy, and sometimes, mother helped to make decisions where needed. Life was perfect in the pack, and I thought it would remain in that order, until tragedy struck. Reya and her crew members walked into the stage amidst cheers from the crowd and a small smile crept up my face. Just as they began the theatrical presentation, a deafening sound of explosion blasted from a distance. Everyone turned in the direction, murmuring in confusion, but I tore past the crowd towards the entrance and flung the doors open. Another explosion blasted in our ears again, and this time, it was from a close range. The impact violently threw me and a few others into the hall and I landed with a painful thud. I could feel the blood rush to my face as I painfully turned to the stage where my sister stood, with a terrified expression on her face. "It's Alpha Kael Draven! Everyone, run!" Someone howled from a distance, and I painstakingly stood up, ignoring the dizzy and nauseating feeling that was slowly engulfing me. I had to look for my sister and parents if the person was right. Everyone knew how strong and untouchable Alpha Kael was. His story was told, far and near, about the packs he raided and claimed, the number of slaves he amassed, his wealth and how he could never be defeated. Reya was by my side before I could race to the stage, and she firmly gripped my wrist before bolting out of the hall with me. Another explosion blasted in the hall and I turned back even as Reya and I waded through the petrified crowd of people scattered all over the road. The hall which was buzzing with life and excitement was now a place hoarded with dead bodies of members of our pack. Tears blinded my eyes as I watched the Alpha's army of bloodthirsty wolves rip several members of my pack apart. All I could see was fire, burnt buildings and I could hear were screams and howls as the attack became more intense. My wolf whimpered within me as we dodged the wolves and maneuvered our way to our home, where we had left father and mother. To I and Reya's dismay, they were nowhere to be found. The house was in disarray, as if a pack of the Alpha's wolves had broken into it and abducted our parents. Reya instantly broke into the tears that has been shimmering in her eyes. "Now's not the time to cry, Reya" I breathed out, looking around and making mental calculations. "Who could have taken them?" She croaked, staring at me like I was her last resort. "They probably went looking for us." "We have to find them before Alpha Kael Draven does!" I nodded and we set out again, this time, into the camp where we suspect that our parents would have gone. As expected, the camp was on fire and almost razed to the ground. We were still running through the camp when Reya's figure was swallowed by a life size flame of fire. I blinked, the reality that my sister has disappeared hitting me like a tornado before a scream erupted from my throat. "Reya!" I desperately clawed my way around the flames that stood in my way, my skin was already getting parched and stiff as I blindly searched for my twin sister. Agony clouded my emotions as I did not mind the consequences of my actions. I was ready to confront the wolves that had caused this havoc. I was ready to meet the Alpha one on one and ask what his motive for the attack was. I was ready to collect my sister, father and mother from him. Until I saw them, my parents. I was a few feet from them but what unfolded before my eyes were as clear as daylight. The sparks flew, some settled and burned on my body, but I did not flinch as I watched the horrific sight of my parents falling to the ground after being mercilessly slayed by Alpha Kael's warriors.
