Chapter 1 - Neverending youth

2025. 10. 28

Dear 2026,

Someone said when you're able to accept loss calmly, it's a sign of fading youth.

Before now, I'll always wonder what it will be like being an adult.

More worries? More stress? Greater responsibility? Maturity?

Truth is, I have no idea.

But from all my years of growing up, one thing I can say for sure is that, loss is something very common to everyone of us.

Children, youths, adults and the aged alike.

To say truly, there's no one who can really accept loss calmly.

The loss of a loved one, a close friend, a favourite object or possession.

Truth is, none of us are ever able to accept loss calmly.

Perhaps as time goes by, we force ourselves to hold in our emotions, but we're never truly calm.

So, tomorrow, a month from now, two years later, if Christ tarries, with each day that goes by, when I feel bitter about that one point that would have given me a perfect ace, frustrated by that interview that wrecked my nerves, annoyed by that wasted hour that went by, peeved by the sudden loss of internet connection or saddened by the loss of a pet; I could look back and know that despite the fleeting years and the passage of time, the youth in me remains alive.

Taking this to heart, I know those moments when I'm overwhelmed by emotions due to certain trifles. When I'm unable to stay calm at those times of loss; the constant conflict of emotions remind me that youth is never far away, but just a sight of yesterday, in everyday.

Yours 2025,

Mary.
