*Chapter 36: The Escape*
Jax's eyes gleamed with determination as he began to create a distraction. He started by banging on the walls of his cell, shouting and making as much noise as possible. The sound echoed through the corridors, causing the Empire's guards to rush to his cell.
"What do you want?" one of the guards snarled, his voice muffled through the steel door.
"I want to talk to Zara," Jax shouted back, his voice loud and clear. "I have information that she'll want to hear."
The guard snorted, his laughter echoing through the corridors. "You're not going anywhere, rebel," he said. "Zara's busy crushing your little rebellion."
Jax's face twisted in anger, but he kept his cool. "Tell her it's about the device," he said, his voice dripping with malice.
The guard's laughter died, and he exchanged a nervous glance with his partner. "Wait here," he said, before disappearing down the corridor.
Jax smiled to himself, knowing that he had piqued the guard's interest. He continued to make noise, shouting and banging on the walls, until the guard returned with Zara by his side.
"What's going on here?" Zara demanded, her voice cold and imperious.
Jax grinned, his eyes flashing with triumph. "I know about the device," he said, his voice loud and clear. "I know how it works, and I know how to stop it."
Zara's eyes narrowed, her face pale with anger. "You're bluffing," she said, her voice venomous.
Jax shrugged, his smile growing wider. "Am I?" he asked, his voice dripping with malice. "You have 10 minutes to release me, or I'll make sure that the Rebel Alliance knows all about your little plan."
Zara's face twisted in fury, but she knew that she had no choice. She nodded to the guard, who reluctantly opened the door to Jax's cell.
As Jax emerged, Lyra appeared from the shadows, a small device in her hand. "Time to get out of here," she said, her voice low and urgent.
The two of them sprinted down the corridors, dodging guards and making their way towards the hangar. They could hear the sound of ships taking off, and the distant rumble of explosions.
"Looks like Kael and Dr. Sofia are making their move," Lyra said, her voice grinning.
Jax's face was set, his eyes fixed on the hangar ahead. "Let's join them," he said, his voice cold and steady.
As they burst into the hangar, Jax and Lyra were greeted by the sight of Kael and Dr. Sofia, standing beside a sleek, silver ship.
"Time to get out of here," Kael said, his voice grinning.
The four of them boarded the ship, and took off into the sky, leaving the Empire's base behind.
As they flew, Jax couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. That Zara and her investors were waiting for their chance to strike.
But for now, they were free.
And they had a rebellion to win.
The ship soared through the skies, the wind rushing past them as they made their way towards the Rebel Alliance's secret base.
Jax's eyes were fixed on the horizon, his mind racing with possibilities. They had a long way to go, but he knew that they could do it.
They had to.
