Chapter 11 - Bloody mess

AIDEN'S POV

I pulled out my gun to shoot. We were shooting back without precision as we sorted cover. They led us into a trap but we have a trap of our own.

As we retreated, they followed and that was exactly what we wanted.

Another bullet was fired in my direction, causing me to take cover behind a tree. I sensed movement, definitely not one of my men, I aimed for the head.

"Woah, Aiden! it's me."

"Aunt?" Just a little pull on that trigger and she would have been dead. I need to focus.

"Everything is going as planned."

"Yeah, except it's a bloody freaking mess." we were supposed to lure them to the stop we had planned but it seemed like we were being lured to our own doom. These idiots were stalling. Did they know about our plan?

"Boss, I'll cover for you, go!" Stephan shouted. So dramatic! There's no need for that, I ignored him. Certainly he didn't expect me to run like a pussy? He repeated his silly idea again.

"Shut up Stephan, you're no shield of mine. Head to the west, there's a cabin there in the woods, I'll catch up with you."

"Yes Boss."

"Whatever you do, do not pull any lever you see."

"Yes boss." He looked like he was going to object but of course not.

My aunt came behind me, "Hurry Stephie, We'll cover for you boys. There's someone there to fill you in on everything." The obvious shock on Stephan's face was satisfying. They didn't know Aunt Rosa—The queen Rosa was here. We'll let the Martin's believe they've got us, the fun was about to begin.

"At the count of three, go!"

"Yes, Boss."

"One...two...three, go!" They raced towards the west as fast as they could. Rosa and i secured their backs. We blocked attacks as we went, it was only a matter of time till we joined the men.

They chased after us with an intensity. We were greatly outnumbered, not for long. "You've lost, Armstrong, accept defeat and give up. I promise to make your death swift —quick." The moron seemed to be some sort of a leader or something. We had gotten to where we needed to be.

"I could say the same for you." Just then, Rosa stepped forward, revealing herself.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't the queen Rosa. I do admire you but...your reign ends now." He fired his gun, we were fast enough to duck, then we ran into the cabin.

Ten men followed and some more joined in. We hid in the shadows, escaping through a hidden door. As instructed, my men locked the entrance the minute they were in, I did the same for the hidden entrance. We awaited the rest of the Martin's men to arrive and join the fun.

Every single one of my men hidden in the shadows came out, gun in hand, ready to pounce.

In a matter of minutes it was over, I took one more hostage. Whatever scrap of information I could get, was enough, for now.

"Boss, what do we do about the men in the cabin?" Stephan asked.

"Make them glow. Light the fucking place up!" By now they should have pulled the lever, the place will go off in smoke soon. Still, why wait? Those idiots must have. Once done, It was Time to head back. Avery...I just hope they hadn't tried anything with my wife... They'd better not.

AVERY'S POV

My ears were ringing, I faded in and out of consciousness. My eye lids were too heavy for me to keep them open. I drifted into a deep sleep. What went on in my surroundings was unknown to me. What mattered was the new life, happiness I found in this dream...

"Avery, my sweet child!"

"Mom!!!" I saw myself run into my mom's arms, she hadn't aged one bit. She treated me like she always did when I was a child. "I've missed you so much mom! I wish you never left, those years without you were torture...I was tormented i—"

"I know dear, I know. I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you."

"Dad never cared, he and my wife put me through hell it's almost as if..." I couldn't say the words. "You know, sometimes I wish he wasn't my father. Why did you marry him?"

"Things aren't always as they seem." I was going to ask what she'd meant by that but I was shaken awake. There was too much noise, so many grunts, movements I couldn't process.

I drifted off once more. This time, I dreamed about something different, maybe it wasn't a dream. It could be an imitation of what I hope for—wished for. In my dream, I was loved and cherished by none other but my very own husband, Aiden.

"Avery! Avery!!!" Someone was shaking me awake, why? I was having the best dream. Why wake me up? "Wake up, damnit!"

"What did they do to her?" I heard a female voice say, I've never heard that voice before. Who was that? "We should probably get her to another hospital or get a doctor to treat her at home." Home? She lives with us?

I felt myself being lifted onto a hard but comfortable surface...it felt wet, sweaty. How? I don't know.

Someone was shouting so loud, shouting orders, it appeared so. It was so loud, I could feel the vibration in my head. Wait...I was being carried, by whom?

Was my dream occurring in reality? Was he carrying me bridal style to love me?

I opened my eyes to find my husband hovering over me, with what seemed like a worried look on his face. "Aiden? You're—you're safe." Then my eyes wandered off to his chest, his abs. God! He was shirtless and I wanted to touch him, feel him but I couldn't get my hands to move..Why? I wouldn't mind getting all naughty with him, here and now. For some reason, I heard laughter. What was so funny?

I drifted off once again. "Avery! stay awake... open your eyes." The voice grew faint until it faded, it all went quiet.
