Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 : The Kremlin's Walls

Love Behind the Kremlin Walls

The Moscow skyline loomed before them, the Kremlin's walls rising like giants in the fading light. Sasha's heart sank as she gazed out the window of the car, the memories flooding back. She had grown up within these walls, a life of privilege and luxury, but at what cost?

Jack's hand on hers brought her back to the present, his eyes filled with concern. "You okay?" he asked, his voice low.

Sasha nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's just...a lot to take in."

The car pulled up to the entrance of the Kremlin, the guards eyeing them warily. Jack flashed a pass, and they were waved through, the heavy gates closing behind them with a clang.

As they drove through the winding streets, Sasha pointed out landmarks, her voice tinged with nostalgia. "That's the Senate building, where my father used to work. And that's the Ivan the Great Bell Tower..."

Jack listened intently, his eyes drinking in the history and grandeur. Sasha could see the wheels turning in his mind, the journalist in him taking notes.

They arrived at a grand, imposing building, the home of the Soviet Premier. Sasha's father, General Petrov, greeted them warmly, his eyes warm with pride.

"Sasha, my dear, it's been too long. And you must be Jack. Welcome to our home."

Sasha's mother, the Countess Petrova, was equally gracious, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So, Jack, tell us, what brings you to Moscow?"

Sasha held her breath, waiting for Jack's response. They had agreed to keep their true intentions hidden, at least for now.

As they sat down to dinner, Sasha felt a sense of unease. She knew her parents' true loyalties, and she was walking a tightrope, trying to keep her feelings hidden.

The conversation flowed, the food and wine exquisite, but Sasha couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. The KGB was always watching, always listening.

As the evening drew to a close, Jack excused himself, citing jet lag. Sasha accompanied him to their room, the tension between them palpable.

"Well, that was fun," Jack said, his voice dry.

Sasha laughed, feeling a sense of relief. "Yeah, my parents can be a bit much."

As they prepared for bed, Sasha couldn't help but feel a sense of dread. She knew that her parents would stop at stop at nothing to keep her in line, to keep her loyal to the regime.

"Jack, I have to tell you something," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Jack's eyes locked onto hers, his expression serious. "What is it?"

Sasha took a deep breath, the words spilling out. "My parents, they're not what they seem. They're involved in some...shady dealings. I don't know how much you know, but-"

Jack's hand covered hers, his voice calm. "I know, Sasha. I've been doing some research. I know about your father's connections to the KGB."

Sasha's eyes widened, her mind racing. "How did you...?"

Jack's smile was reassuring. "I've been working with the CIA, Sasha. We're trying to bring down the Soviet regime, and we think your father is a key player."

Sasha's heart pounded, her mind reeling. This was bigger than she had thought. This was treason.

"Jack, I don't know what to do," she whispered, her voice shaking.

Jack's arms wrapped around her, holding her close. "We'll figure it out, Sasha. Together. We just have to be careful."

As they held each other, Sasha felt a sense of determination wash over her. She was not going to be a pawn in her parents' game. She was going to fight, for her freedom, for her love, and for a better future.

The next morning, Sasha and Jack joined her parents for breakfast, the tension palpable. Sasha's father eyed them warily, his expression calculating.

"So, Jack, what are your plans for today?" he asked, his voice smooth.

Sasha held her breath, waiting for Jack's response. This was it, the moment of truth.

"Actually, General, I was thinking of taking Sasha on a tour of the city," Jack said, his voice casual. "She's been stuck in the Kremlin for too long."

Sasha's father's eyes narrowed, his expression suspicious. "I don't think that's a good idea, Jack. The city is not safe for...tourists."

Sasha's heart pounded, her mind racing. This was it, the moment she had been waiting for.

"Father, I'm going," she said, her voice firm. "I'm not a child anymore, and I won't be treated like one."

The room fell silent, the tension thick. Sasha's father glared at her, his eyes blazing with anger.

"Fine," he spat, his voice cold. "But don't say I didn't warn you."

Sasha smiled, feeling a sense of triumph. She was taking control, and there was nothing her parents could do to stop her.

As they left the Kremlin, Sasha felt a sense of freedom she had never felt before. She was finally doing something for herself, something for her own happiness.

And she knew that she would never go back.
