Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 - Girl Chat

After celebrating Halloween until dawn, Simon first drove Sandra back to her apartment in West Hollywood before taking the two women back to the Montana district.

It was already late at night, and the large and small pumpkin lanterns outside Simon's villa were still lit.

Simon parked the SUV, and the two women got out of the back seat.

Kathryn and Janette's cars were both parked nearby. However, after getting out of the car, Janette tightly held Kathryn's arm, her eyes sparkling as she stared at Simon, showing no intention of leaving to return to Malibu.

Simon just smiled, indulging Janette's wish, and looked at Kathryn, saying, "It's very late, Kathryn. If you don't mind, you can stay tonight".

Kathryn still looked a little hesitant, but Janette had already pulled her towards the door: "Kate, we'll sleep in the same room tonight, on my new big bed!" As she said this, Janette suddenly remembered something and turned her head, saying, "Hey, little boy, I think I forgot to prepare toothbrushes. Could you drive out and buy some? Also, shower gel, shampoo, oh, and towels, a few towels too".

Simon watched as Kathryn was dragged into the villa by Janette, shrugged, and opened the car door again.

He rushed to a nearby 24-hour convenience store, quickly bought a large pile of daily necessities, returned, and handed them to the two women. After washing up, Simon soon rested.

In another bedroom of the villa.

Kathryn emerged from the shower, gently tidying her freshly blow-dried hair, and saw Janette on the large bed, hugging a pillow and staring intently at the door. She asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

Janette squeezed the soft pillow closer to her chest, her eyes wide open, and looked at Kathryn with a serious expression, saying, "Kate, if that little rascal comes for a night attack later, I'll block him, and you must run away quickly".

Kathryn couldn't help but laugh, saying, "Do you need me to call the police?"

Janette immediately shook her head: "Of course not".

Kathryn walked to the bed, pulled back the covers, and sat down, saying, "Alright, Janette, it's very late. Go to sleep. Simon won't come for a night attack".

"Mmm..." Janette lay down on the bed with a troubled expression, turned over, and leaned against Kathryn, saying, "I'm just worried, what if he doesn't come for a night attack?"

Kathryn reached out and helped Janette tidy her somewhat messy blonde hair, still smiling, and said, "Then you'll just have to go over yourself".

"Actually," Janette rubbed her head against Kathryn, saying, "I just went to look, and that little rascal locked his bedroom door".

Kathryn reached out and stroked Janette's cheek, saying, "Janette, you're already chasing Simon pretty hard. If you keep this up, be careful he doesn't get scared away".

"It's not easy to like a man, so of course I have to keep a close eye on him," Janette said, then added, "Alright, I'll let him off the hook tonight".

Kathryn reached out and turned off the lights in the room, took off her bathrobe, and lay down on the bed, saying, "Well, go to sleep".

Janette also rustled for a while, then snuggled under the covers.

Then, she continued to rustle, rustle, rustle.

A moment later, a small hand reached out towards Kathryn.

Kathryn caught Janette's restless arm: "What is it again?"

In the dark, Janette whispered, "Kate, can you hold it for me?"

Kathryn paused, then casually held Janette's wrist, saying, "Alright, I don't have Simon's strength".

"Mmm-hmm-hmm."

Although Kathryn didn't use any force, Janette still hummed contentedly a few times as if a sensitive spot had been touched, looking very satisfied.

Then she finally quieted down.

Kathryn saw Janette quiet down, but she suddenly lost much of her sleepiness.

Although.

But.

What if.

If he really suddenly broke in, would she really have to run away quickly?

However.

What if he caught her first?

Such a strong guy, she definitely wouldn't be able to escape, right?

What should she do then?

As various thoughts swirled chaotically, Kathryn immediately lost even more sleep. Janette definitely hadn't locked the bedroom door, so, should she get out of bed and lock the door?

Should she?

Or shouldn't she?

Unconsciously, a small hand reached over again, startling Kathryn, who was deep in thought.

This time, Janette spoke first: "Kate, you can't sleep either, can you?"

Kathryn feigned displeasure: "If you hadn't messed around, I would have almost fallen asleep".

"Heh heh," Janette chuckled a few times, her voice becoming low, and said, "Kate, actually, I can tell that little rascal has a good impression of you."

Kathryn's thoughts immediately became even more scattered, and she said, "Don't talk nonsense. You two are fine, but I, Simon and I are simply impossible."

Kathryn had studied at the San Francisco Art Institute back then, then moved to New York, worked for a few years, and then re-enrolled in Columbia University for a master's degree in film. When she and Janette met at Columbia, Janette was just starting her undergraduate studies.

Therefore, although Janette was still older than Simon, the two were still a relatively good match.

As for herself, Kathryn sighed inwardly. She was someone who absolutely refused to compromise, and the few relationships she had tried over the years had all ended without result. Unable to find a suitable partner, she had remained single. Occasionally, she even thought that she might stay single forever.

Then, this year, she suddenly met two rather decent men. However, the first one was married, and she had completely given up on certain thoughts during this time. As for the other one, it seemed even more impossible.

It seemed she was destined to be single her whole life. Kathryn thought somewhat narcissistically.

Janette, hearing her words, said, "Kate, do you think that little rascal's personality means he would care about these things? But, this is the first time I've liked a man, so don't try to snatch him from me, okay?"

Kathryn nodded, trying to make her tone lighter, and said with a smile, "Alright".

"I knew it, Kate, you're the best to me," Janette suddenly embraced the woman beside her, hugged her, then added, "Actually, as long as you don't try to snatch him from me, it's okay for you two to secretly do some bad things behind my back".

Kathryn paused, then said helplessly, "I, I would never do that".

Janette immediately replied, "Mmm hmm hmm, that's for the best".

So, the bedroom was quiet again for a moment.

After a while, Kathryn still couldn't help but ask, "Janette, you, you can tolerate your man doing, um, bad things behind your back?"

Janette replied without hesitation, "Mhmm".

"But, this, how can this be?"

"Why not?"

Why not?

Such a strange question.

Something seemed off?

Kathryn looked at the dark room and said hesitantly, "It's just not right, is it? Shouldn't a couple in love be loyal to each other?"

"Of course," Janette nodded, then said, "However, loyalty and desire are completely different things. The man I'm interested in is so outstanding, of course, it's impossible for him to only have one woman. Have you ever seen an outstanding man who only has one woman his whole life?"

Kathryn thought for a moment, then said somewhat uncertainly, "There should, there should be many, right?"

"Those people you're thinking of, either you just don't know, or they're just superficial," Janette said with great certainty, "Anyway, it's definitely impossible for my man to only have one woman".

Listening to Janette's words, Kathryn suddenly remembered the 'domestic violence theory' she had mentioned to her a few days ago, and immediately felt that she shouldn't continue discussing with this girl, otherwise she might also be led astray.

However, after hesitating for a moment, Kathryn still couldn't help but ask, "Then, you, would you tell him that you don't care if he, um, cheats?"

"Of course not, I'm not a fool," Janette immediately said, "Not only that, if he does that and I find out, I'll definitely act very angry".

"Then what?"

"I'll kick out the woman I found".

Kathryn paused again, then said, "Janette, that's not good. Think about it, if, um, if the man you like falls in love with another woman because of this, and insists on breaking up with you, what will you do then?"

Janette's small hand gently stroked Kathryn, and she said softly, "God will forgive him".

"Hmm?"

Janette repeated in a murmur, "God will forgive him."

Kathryn was very puzzled and asked, "Then, what about you?"

Janette's tone was still soft, and she said, "But I won't".

Kathryn was still full of doubts, but she just patted Janette gently like an older sister, saying, "Alright, I really don't understand you".

The morning sun unknowingly crept through the gaps in the bedroom curtains.

Perhaps because she was sleeping in an unfamiliar environment, Kathryn woke up very early.

Janette beside her was still sound asleep. Kathryn glanced at her a few times, then quietly got out of bed. After washing up, she walked out of the bedroom.

It was already eight o'clock in the morning.

She had intended to go to the kitchen to prepare something for everyone to eat, but she was surprised to find Simon already sitting in the dining room, eating something while flipping through a newspaper. A pencil was also on the table.

"Morning, Kathryn." Seeing her appear, Simon stood up and said, "Do you want something to eat? I've made breakfast and was just wondering if I should wake you two up".

"Morning," Kathryn gestured to Simon, then said, "I'll do it myself".

After getting a portion of breakfast from the kitchen, Kathryn sat down next to Simon and asked, "Are you still going to Fox Studios today?"

Simon nodded: "Yes, I should be able to get the first rough cut done in these two days."

Kathryn said, "Actually, you could rest for a bit. Today is Halloween, after all, and it's also the weekend".

"Heh, once the film is done, there will definitely be plenty of time to rest," Simon said, picking up the pencil from the table and casually making a mark on the newspaper in front of him.

Kathryn noticed Simon's actions, glanced over curiously, and asked, "What are you doing?"
