Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Conflict

After reluctantly leaving Matthew Broderick and his hanger-on's, Courteney walked a few steps, she couldn't help but look back, and then said to Simon with some anticipation: "I really hope that one day I can be like Matthew, having my own celebration party, surrounded like a princess".

Seeing the girl's longing expression, Simon recalled the TV show "Friends" and responded with a smile: "You definitely will. You might even be more famous than him in the future".

"Heh, you're really good at flattering girls," Courteney glanced at Simon, but then her expression turned to disappointment. "But it's difficult. Matthew's agent is Norman Brokaw. He once represented Marilyn Monroe and is now the president of WMA".

Simon replied "Well, Jonathan should be pretty good too, right?"

Courteney's tone carried a hint of dismissiveness, and she said, acting very knowledgeable, "He's just a newly promoted vice president. A company like WMA has a ton of vice presidents".

Hearing Courteney say that, Simon just politely smiled.

He had originally planned to get a drink first, but when he arrived at the edge of the dance floor, Simon saw Courteney directly merge into the dancing crowd, so he just followed suit.

Courteney was clearly a very typical party girl; once she entered the dance floor, she immediately became lively. With an excited expression on her beautiful face, she raised her hands, and her body began to sway with the music. A slender waist intermittently appeared and disappeared with her movements, like a beautiful mermaid under the dazzling lights.

Simon had always been very adaptable to his surroundings. Looking at the girl dancing with abandon, he quickly relaxed and let loose as well, enjoying the teasing glances Courteney occasionally cast his way as she danced.

Pretty girls always easily attract attention, and a pretty girl who dances well and has a hot figure is even more eye-catching in this kind of setting.

Soon, a tall, thin white boy in a blue shirt came over, swaying his body next to Courteney, trying to interact with her, completely ignoring Simon's presence. Courteney was clearly not new to this kind of situation; she politely smiled at the young man, but subtly moved her body away.

Seeing Courteney dodge, the young man didn't give up and moved closer again.

Courteney had to dodge again, circling around, and even glared at Simon, who was watching the commotion with a smile.

Simon then stepped forward, placing himself between the young man and Courteney, thinking the other party would be sensible enough to leave.

However, as soon as he did so, his shoulder was harshly slapped. Before he could turn around, Simon heard the boy's loud voice next to his ear: "Hey, buddy, is this your girl?"

Simon felt the merciless slap on his shoulder, and frowned, but decided to defuse the situation, shaking his head at the boy and saying "Nope".

Before he could explain further "She is my friend," the boy had already loudly interjected again, "Then don't fucking block people like a pesky dog".

Upon hearing this, Simon immediately narrowed his eyes. Seeing that after saying this, the other party rudely tried to push him away, he simply raised his hand and clocked him in the face.

Since it was a public place and he was a guest, Simon actually didn't use his full strength, only wanting to give the other party a small lesson.

However, perhaps the boy had been drinking, or perhaps he was simply too "frail," but when Simon punched him, he stumbled backward and fell onto his backside in the crowd.

It was already a dance floor filled with hormones, and when people saw a fight break out, the men and women around showed no panic. Not only did they quickly clear a space, but some even started shouting and egging them on.

The young man on the ground touched his stinging cheekbone, and feeling the condescending, mocking gazes of the surrounding men and women, he immediately became enraged and embarrassed, leaping up and lunging at Simon.

Simon had no intention of fighting. He reached out and grabbed the young man by the collar, extending his arm to prevent him from getting too close, and advised, "Buddy, you'd better calm yourself down".

Even if the young man was a bit shorter than Simon, the difference was negligible.

However, compared to Simon's strong physique, forged through his tough upbringing, the other party's slender body was completely powerless in front of Simon. Held by Simon with one hand, he was far from calm. He tried to retaliate by grabbing Simon's collar, but found his arms weren't long enough. He tried to kick Simon, but his kicks were easily blocked in turn.

Feeling the unabashed laughter of the surrounding people, the young man's face flushed. Just as he was about to curse loudly to regain some face, an angry voice boomed in his ear: "Who the hell told you guys to fight here?!"

Everyone looked towards the source of the voice and, seeing it was Matthew Broderick, immediately quieted down.

With the commotion ongoing, the music on the dance floor was quickly halted, and the bar's security guards appeared around them.

Simon, seeing the surroundings quiet down, then released the young man who was still flailing his arms and legs like a monkey.

The exasperated young man, released by Simon, originally wanted to rush forward and fight, but noticing Matthew Broderick glaring at him, he immediately stopped his actions. However, he unceremoniously pointed at Simon and said, "Matthew, it's him, he started it".

As he said this, the young man quickly walked towards Matthew Broderick, standing familiarly next to him, and stared at Simon with a sense of borrowed authority.

Although he knew his friend wasn't the most well-behaved guy, because of the one-sided situation in the venue just now, plus his friend's pre-emptive accusation, Matthew Broderick naturally assumed Simon was the one who started the trouble.

Matthew Broderick glanced at Simon with distaste, then turned to look at Kristy Swanson, who almost wanted to hide herself, and said, "Kristy, is this your friend?"

Kristy Swanson stammered a bit, saying hesitantly, "I… I guess so, but I just met him this afternoon. Um, he's Courteney's friend".

Being watched by everyone around, Matthew Broderick hesitated, but still felt he should appear more magnanimous. So he said to Simon, "Look, buddy, how about this: you apologize to Mark, and we'll let it go this time".

Simon glanced at the young man beside Matthew Broderick, who was smugly waiting for his apology, then smiled and shrugged, saying, "I think I'll just leave."

After saying this, Simon looked at Courteney next to him.

Courteney saw Simon looking at her, her eyes flickering, and she opened her mouth but said nothing.

Simon also said nothing and turned to walk away.

Matthew Broderick, feeling that he had already been magnanimous enough, but was then openly disrespected, immediately felt his face flush. He glared fiercely at Simon's retreating figure until he disappeared, then suddenly turned to Courteney, who was still standing there, and said mercilessly, "You leave too. You two are no longer welcome at my parties".

Courteney was stunned and looked at Kristy for help, but her friend merely leaned closer to the boy beside her, showing no intention of speaking up for her. She had no choice but to turn around and awkwardly push her way through the crowd.

She somewhat regretted not leaving with Simon earlier, and this regret quickly turned into a faint resentment.

That annoying guy, would it kill him to apologize?
