Fate, it seemed, had a way of weaving unexpected threads. Rinner's father wanted to educate someone talented as a gift for his wife on her 15th death anniversary. So, immediately Rinner's father approached Rinner and Rusty and asked them to find someone exceptionally talented by visiting schools under the disguise of an exchange student. Rinner, badly wanting to write the coming competitive exams, declined the offer to visit, thus leaving the mission to Rusty.
Unknowingly, Rusty goes to the same school where Renee is studying and is surprised by her intelligence and kindness. Renee, unaware of all this, helps Rusty whenever needed. Rusty goes back to inform his foster father after observing the students for three whole months. Rusty suggests educating Renee, who is exceptionally talented, and immediately after hearing her name, Rinner's father guesses it must be his niece. Excited and wanting to know more, Rinner's father accepts Rusty's suggestion and grants the scholarship to Renee. Rusty, without delay, informs Renee about it and asks her to come to their place to stay there for her education. Renee, after her mother's force, accepts the offer and gets ready to go to their place.
Just on the day of Renee's arrival, Rusty gets held up in some work and requests Rinner to pick up Renee, and also asks him to hold her nameboard so that she can know. Rinner, unable to decline his brother's request, accepts the task. Rinner, in his arrogance, holds the nameboard upside down. Renee, after reaching there, sees a boy holding a nameboard upside down, much to her dismay, as soon as she sees that it is her nameboard. Immediately, Renee approaches Rinner and awkwardly tells him that he is holding the nameboard upside down, to which Rinner responds in a hasted manner and thanks her. Then, Renee braces herself, thinking that it isn't new to her, and tells him that she is the one. Rinner, with a dismissive look, says that she is someone with "just a pretty face." Meanwhile, an old lady who travelled beside Renee scolds Rinner for not holding her luggage, as she knows that Renee is only 39 kgs. To which Rinner says that she is fit for nothing and is frail like a wheat stalk. Renee, with her finely honed ability to deflect unwanted attention, met his arrogance with a cool politeness that seemed to both irritate and intrigue him.
Upon reaching their place, immediately after seeing Renee, Rinner's father showers his love on Renee, much to Renee's surprise and Rinner's anger. Inadvertently, Rinner develops jealousy and anger towards Renee. Unfortunately, Rinner's father admits Renee to the very same school as Rinner and in the same class. Though Renee is a year younger than Rinner, she is in the same class because of her intelligence. Soon, news starts to spread that Rinner and Renee are cousins and are at constant tiffs. One day when there is no one around, Rinner mocks her by saying that she is inferior to him and should obey his command as his father is educating her. Being sharp-witted, Renee says that what he is saying is true and that she will obey his father's commands and not his - to whom she owes nothing. Rinner, angered by this, says that she can't continue to keep "K" in her name as "K" is her father's surname and that her father isn't with her anymore. Heartbroken by hearing this statement, Renee starts crying very badly, to which Rinner pays no attention.
From that day onwards, Renee maintains more distance from Rinner than usual. Sometimes, Renee cooks some of her family's special dishes for her uncle (Rinner's father). And whenever she sees Rinner coming, she gets up from the dining table and picks up the dish which she prepared and tells her uncle that she will send the dish to his room. Rinner's father, aware of Rinner's arrogance, suspects that Rinner might have hurt her and calls him to his room to speak with him. There, Rinner's father tells Rinner that he loves Renee so much because his wife, when she was alive, loved Renee so much and used to tell everyone, "Here, this girl will someday be my daughter-in-law." Upon hearing this, Rinner gets very irritated and leaves the room even before Rinner's father could say anything.
