Chapter 2 - Chapter 02-Memories

The smell of blood and burning flesh filled the air, the valley had streams flowing with blood and pits of fire all around.

"They are all dead. "

Atop a hill, men on horse back looked down at the valley full of corpses amd carcasses.

"We are too late. The princess is probably dead. " The man holding a helmet said. His blue eyes scanned the dead valley and he frowned.

"Can't believe they abandoned her and called on reinforcements later. "

The leader, clad in dark armour, got down and led his stead down to the carnage. His soldiers also got down and followed him.

Getting further in, more enemy corpses than their allies.

His eyes narrowed but before he could unsheath hia sword, a force to the back of his knee made him kneel.

*Ting* the sound of metal touching metal sounded from the back of his head.

"YOUR GRACE! " The blue eyed soldier unsheathed his sword looking at the child's figure, covered on blood from head to toe, who held a spear to the back of his Grace's head with one hand as the other held what looked like a head.

"Stand down Marcus. "

"I thought all of them were dead, where are you people from? " A childish voice laced with malice asked.

"Princess! "

....

"The Lone child of war has woken up. " Marcus said and placed an envelope and a news letter on the table in front of Luca who was writing.

Placing his quill down, he took the newsletter and read through.

"Lone child of war wakes up after the appearance of the Saintess. Blessings from the heavens for the emperial family. " He frowned.

"How could any sane person send a child to war ? " Marcus muttered. The memory of that little child, so small and injured, covered in blood and carrying a weapon heavier than her own arm didn't sit right in his mind.

"We joined the army at fourteen. Although she did defeat that whole battalion and defended her men. " Alex said patting his friends shoulder.

Thinking about how she had struck their Duke down, a spear to his head, covered in blood from head to toe and the look she gave them. No light in her eyes, simply dead, a cold shiver ran down their spines.

Luca looked at his subordinates, and then the envelope, the Lagares insignia.

"Prepare, we are going to Lagares. "

...

In a majestic looking temple, a weak looking figure knelt down in front of the statue of Lagares. The founder of the empire, a god who felt pity for the human race and gave them an empire.

"I guess I understand why you left us behind. Although I don't really believe in you. " Circe mumbled and looked up at the face of her supposed ancestor. "Humans are selfish beings, they would have comspired to kill you if you didn't leave. Why am I here then? Can't I follow you to where ever you are? " She sighed.

Straight black hair, red eyes like rubies that had become blood shot and pale skin that looked like a dead corpse, she looked like she was on the brink of collapse and that white veil made it even worse.

"Princess, it's time to clean the temple. " A young priest said, his voice trembling, obviously scared out of his wits.

Circe rolled her eyes, I'll come and chat again ancestor. "She said and bowed before putting out her arm letting Kaelen lift her up.

Her hands had gauntlets that she never took off, not even in her past life.

" Aren't you scared of this hand Kaelen? Aren't you scared you'll end up like those enemy soldiers? " Circe asked as she leaned on him entirely.

Even in her previous life, Kaelen hd stayed even when she commanded her men to retreat.

"That's because these hands saved us your highness. " He said and put out his hand taking a coat from the guard who stood waiting for them at the large doors.

She chuckled as her favourite coat was draped on her shoulders. Even it felt heavy on her. Just as she was warming up, a light halo enveloped her body and she felt her chest twist. With a jerk from Kaelen's grip, Circe coughed up a not so little amount of blood.

"Who cares casts blessings on the Princess?!! " Kaelen quickly held her up as they were surrounded by her guards.

Circe frowned as she caught a sight of a figure hiding behind a pillar.

"Come out, I can see your aura even with my eyes closed, Saintess. "
