Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Basement Torture with Words

The rest of the evening felt strangely quiet.

Amara stayed close to the others, talking, listening, trying to act normal. But every time she glanced at Adrian, he was already looking at her.

Softly. Calmly. Like everything between them had shifted.

And it had.

After what happened in the hallway, neither of them needed words. They just… stayed near each other. Not touching, not talking — just aware.

Later, when the cousins were distracted with another game, Adrian stood up.

Aiden noticed. "Where are you going?"

Adrian shrugged casually. "Basement."

Aiden didn't question it — he knew exactly who was down there.

Amara didn't hear the conversation. She only saw Adrian walking away, hands in his pockets, expression unreadable.

She didn't know where he was going. She didn't know what he was planning. She didn't know what was waiting downstairs.

But Adrian did.

Basement

The door creaked softly as he stepped inside.

The air was cold. The lights dim. The silence heavy.

Julian sat chained to the chair, head down, breathing unevenly. He didn't look up until Adrian stopped in front of him.

The basement was cold, silent, heavy with the kind of tension that made Julian's breathing uneven the moment Adrian stepped inside.

Adrian didn't speak at first. He just stood there, hands in his pockets, watching Julian with a calmness that felt cruel.

Julian swallowed. "What do you want now?"

Adrian tilted his head slightly. "To talk."

Julian scoffed. "About what? How much you enjoy this?"

Adrian smirked — slow, controlled. "Actually… yes."

Julian's jaw tightened.

Adrian stepped closer, voice dropping. "You asked me last time how Amara was doing."

Julian's eyes flickered with something desperate.

Adrian continued, tone almost casual. "She cried today."

Julian's breath hitched — hope flickering.

Adrian's smile sharpened. "Not for you."

Julian froze.

"She cried in my arms," Adrian said softly. "Held onto me. Told me she felt jealous."

Julian's expression shattered.

Adrian leaned in slightly, voice low. "Jealous because she loves me."

Julian shook his head, voice breaking. "You're lying—"

Adrian's eyes hardened. "I waited for this, you know."

Julian blinked, confused.

Adrian straightened, his voice calm and terrifyingly honest. "I always waited for the moment you'd mess up. The moment you'd show her who you really are. The moment she'd finally see it."

Julian's breathing grew sharp.

"And when you did…" Adrian's smirk returned, slow and victorious. "I claimed her."

Julian's face twisted in pain.

Adrian stepped back, hands still in his pockets. "She chose me. She trusts me. She cries for me. She loves me."

Julian's voice cracked. "Adrian—"

But Adrian was already turning toward the stairs.

"Sleep well," he said quietly.

Julian's broken voice echoed behind him. "Adrian, wait—"

But Adrian didn't.

He walked out, closing the door behind him, leaving Julian alone with the truth that hurt more than anything else ever could.
