The glow in Eliora's hair pulsed again beneath the scarf.
Zarek stood very still beside the bed, his hand resting protectively over Eliora's arm.
"Lightborn?" he repeated slowly.
Maelina frowned. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Lily looked at them both for a long moment before speaking.
"Lightborns are creatures born from the forbidden union of Saints Arion and Miralda." She explained.
The room fell silent.
Maelina blinked and Zarek's expression hardened.
"Saints Arion and Miralda?" he said. "That makes no sense."
Maelina nodded quickly. "But the saints mated with the pure beasts. That is how the first beast bloodlines were created."
Lily gave a small, patient smile. "That," she said gently, "came after."
Both of them stared at her.
"Long before the agreement to mate was made between saints and beasts… Arion and Miralda fell in love." Lily continued.
Maelina's brows slowly pulled together.
