"I will have someone guide you to a house in Fairwing," Zarek said, "It is safe. Close to Volkar, but away from the court. You will stay there from now on."
Maya stiffened.
Justin blinked. "A… house? In Fairwing?"
"Yes," Zarek replied. "Everything you need will be provided. Food, protection, comfort."
Maya opened her mouth, clearly unsure whether to be grateful or afraid.
"We don't want charity." she began.
Zarek's eyes went to her.
"It is not charity," he said. "It is my will. My Soulmate's parents cannot live anywhere that isn't befitting of her status."
That ended the discussion.
Eliora finally found her voice. "Zarek."
He was already standing, reaching for her hand. The contact sent a jolt through her.
"Come," he said.
He didn't ask. He pulled her to her feet and walked toward the doors.
"Wait..." Justin said, rising in alarm. "Your Majesty, my daughter..."
"She is coming with me," Zarek said over his shoulder.
The doors opened, and Eliora quickly looked back.
