Chapter 60 - Two feet

Fred and George, who had initially hoped for a final, desperate attempt, ultimately failed to master the Cleansing Charm in a single night. Of course, what truly made them give up was Albert's statement: "Filch might not even allow you to use magic."

The following day, during Charms class, Professor Flitwick checked everyone's practice. Compared to Gryffindor students, very few Hufflepuff students had successfully mastered the Luminous Charm.

Professor Flitwick took five minutes to review the material from the previous lesson before beginning to explain the counter-curse of the Light-Brightening Curse: the Extinguishing Curse.

"The Extinguishing Charm isn't just for extinguishing glowing wands; it can also extinguish ordinary light sources." Professor Flitwick pointed to a candle on the table, picked up his wand, and gently tapped it. "Knox."

The candle went out, as if someone had reached out and stubbed it out.

"As you can see, the incantation for extinguishing flames is Knox, and this incantation is equally effective for extinguishing burning flames."

"Fluorescence." After Professor Flitwick finished chanting the spell, a pale light shone from the tip of his wand. "Knox." The Charms Professor chanted the spell again, and the light on the wand disappeared once more.

After Professor Flitwick finished explaining the Extinguishing Charm in class, he left the remaining time for everyone to practice spells.

"Fluorescent Flash... Knox." Albert succeeded after several attempts. To further verify the spell's effect, he conjured a candle for himself, lit it, and began trying to extinguish the flame.

"I succeeded too." Lee Jordan was in a good mood. After practicing and trying more than ten times, the spell successfully extinguished the light on the wand. Then he tried to extinguish the candle flame like Albert did.

According to Professor Flitwick, extinguishing a raging fire is more difficult than extinguishing a glowing charm.

"So frustrating!" Fred was still struggling to master the Glowing Charm, and not just him, but some of the students in the class were too.

In the end, only three people managed to extinguish the light on their wands, one of whom was Diggory of Hufflepuff.

Before the Charms class ended, Professor Flitwick assigned new homework: to write a paper on the Light-Up Charm and the Extinguish Charm, which should be at least two feet long and due before class the following Monday.

George muttered under his breath, "Two feet long? Professor Flitwick must be insane!"

For young wizards who have basically never written papers or even touched a quill pen, writing a two-foot-long piece of parchment is a difficult challenge; even finding a bunch of words to fill a two-foot-long piece of parchment is not easy.

"Actually, this kind of paper report is very simple." Albert glanced at George, looking at him with a strange expression. "You just need to copy down the origins of the Light-Up Charm and the Light-Out Charm, then write down some problems you encountered when learning the Light-Up Charm, then go to the library to find some information about this topic and copy it down, and finally write a summary report or something. It's about two feet long and can be read."

In fact, Albert knew very well that Professor Flitwick didn't expect the freshmen to do very well on their first homework assignment.

To put it simply, this paper aims to help everyone better understand the Light-Up Charm and the Light-Extinguishing Charm, and to deepen everyone's understanding and application of spells.

In his past life, Albert wrote a lot of similar things when he was in college. Although a long time has passed, he still has some understanding of them.

"That's all?" Li Qiaodan's eyes widened in disbelief upon hearing this.

"That simple?" Arya glared at him and said sarcastically, "Once you start writing, you'll find it's not so simple. But thanks to Albert, now I know what to write on that two-foot-long parchment."

On the way, as the group was discussing the homework for the Spells class, a discordant voice suddenly rang out.

"Are you sure what he said is true?" a Hufflepuff student interjected in a strange tone.

"At least, that sounds much more reliable, doesn't it…" Fred and George exchanged glances, walked over to the Hufflepuff student, and each put their arm around the student's arm, saying, "Perhaps Albert has already gotten a little hint from Professor Flitwick."

"Let me go." The Hufflepuff student struggled, but couldn't break free from the Weasley twins, who held him firmly.

"Oh, okay, don't be nervous." Fred let go of the other man, patted him lightly on the shoulder twice, and watched the guy dash off to the Hufflepuff team. He couldn't help but laugh smugly.

"Stop messing around," Diggory warned, glaring at the twins.

"We didn't do anything, Diggory. We just had a brief conversation with him." The twins put their arms around each other's shoulders. "Right? We didn't do anything, and then he suddenly became so nervous."

"Alright, let me go." Diggory looked helpless. He knew, of course, that the twins' friendly way of communicating meant no harm to him, but others didn't think so.

"He looks terrified by you guys," Li Qiaodan couldn't help but mutter.

"Don't talk nonsense, we didn't scare him, or we'll sue you for defamation." Fred and George looked at each other with expressions that said, "We didn't do anything, he's just scaring himself."

In fact, they really didn't do anything.

Albert was amused and suddenly felt like laughing. However, he felt that the twins' actions weren't actually wrong, since they hadn't done anything wrong; it was all the other's misunderstanding.

"Speaking of which, when will we have flight lessons?" Angelina suddenly asked.

"I'm not sure. Apparently, Gryffindor freshmen will have their flying lessons on Thursday afternoons. The notice will be posted on the common room bulletin board when they start flying lessons." Fred thought for a moment and then added, "Charlie is recruiting reserve players recently. If you like Quidditch, you can give it a try. Reserve players have a chance to get hands on flying brooms, but becoming a full-fledged player requires you to rely on yourself."

"When?" Angelina asked, her eyes lighting up.

George replied without hesitation, "You can go to the Quidditch pitch this afternoon and talk to Charlie."

"You're not actually going to join the Quidditch team, are you?!" Arya looked at her roommate in surprise.

"Hmm, I'd like to give it a try."

"There's another Transfiguration class later," Shanna muttered to herself. "I hope Professor McGonagall won't give us any more homework."

However, everyone was destined to be disappointed.

Even if Professor McGonagall doesn't assign them homework, they still have to continue practicing Transfiguration.

However, Professor McGonagall said she would check their progress in turning the matches into needles next week, and if they still couldn't make the matches change, then someone might really be in trouble.
