Chapter 2 - College

"Yeah, I've reached. Where are you, Mom?"

"I've reached too, honey. Right now I'm parking the car."

"Okay then, bye. Take care, Mom."

"Bye honey, you take care too. And don't forget to eat lunch, and call me if you need anything, okay?"

"Mm."

*Beep*

I hung up the call and closed the phone. The screen went black, causing my reflection to emerge on it.

An average face with black hair and black eyes stared back. I was not handsome, but not ugly either. I was, like, in the middle of it, if my face was considered. But overall, I was above average. With a height of 5 feet 11½ inches, going to the gym, taking care of my body, and diet have improved a lot for me.

Even then, sometimes I cannot help but think about my mom and me. Where my mom was a jade beauty, I was anything but handsome. When people see us together, they also cannot believe their eyes that Mom and I are related.

'Well, she is gorgeous.' I thought, a smile emerging on my face.

Coming out of my thoughts, I kept the phone in my pocket and, glancing at my watch, I resumed my walking, heading towards my class. After a few moments of sauntering to reach my destination, on the way, I heard someone calling my name.

"Oi, Adam." Recognizing the person behind the voice, I turned and found a guy around my age—19—waving at me while rushing toward me, weaving through the waves of students.

"Fucking hell, man." He huffed, coming near me, balancing himself by putting his hands on his knees. "Did the population increase again?"

"Well, freshmen are arriving," I said, looking at a few eager faces beaming with excitement, anticipation, and whatnot for their upcoming college life, which they thought was going to be filled with adventure and their self-made delusions. "And you know how they are?"

"Of course, we were at their place the previous year." The guy huffing near me muttered with a look of pity. "If only they knew."

"Come on, college life is not that bad. Stop blaming it." A new voice sounded, gaining both my and the guy huffing near me's attention. The owner of the voice was a guy, also around the same age as me.

"Fuck you," We both—me and the huffing guy—shoved our middle fingers at this newcomer.

Where, the huffing guy next to me with an average face, brown hair, black eyes, and a height of about 5'10" was in the same category as me—middle factory product. This newcomer was the literal definition of the word "stud."

Sporting blonde hair, blue eyes, and a height of about 6'1", this guy could make any girl's heart throb in a moment.

However, fortunately... for us plebeians and unfortunately for other girls, this guy was already in love. And hopelessly that too.

"Hehehe," The female main character of his life giggled, holding onto his arms. "Good morning, Mark. Good morning, Adam."

"Good morning, Jenny." We wished her back.

"Hey, what about me?" The stud pointed at himself while pouting like a child.

"Huh! Who are you?" Mark responded with a question before turning to face Jenny—a girl about our same age with silky pink hair, light brown eyes, and a height of about 5'7". She's a gorgeous person with a beautiful face and appropriate curves. "Jenny, come on, I know you are kind. But still, helping a homeless guy to attend college is too much of a load on you, you know."

"Hey." The stud acted offended.

"Hehe, what can I do, Mark? This homeless guy has basically become my home now." Jenny responded with a giggle while planting a kiss on the stud's cheek.

"Tch." Mark clicked his tongue, seeing the smug smile emerging on the face of the stud.

"Okay, okay, let's go, or we are going to get late," I muttered, stopping the banter and urging everyone to move.

Hearing my words, Mark cursed and started rushing.

"Fuck! We can't be late. Consumer Behavior is our first class."

At his words, color drained from others' faces as they also started to hurry.

Seeing this drastic reaction, I couldn't help but ask.

"So? What's up with Consumer Behavior being our first class?"

"Huh! You don't know. Are you living under a rock or something, dude?" Mark said incredulously before pointing towards the stud. "Even Sam knows."

At this blatant insult, Sam's face scrunched up, but he didn't say anything.

"What? What is it? Tell me."

"Don't you know? Professor Dr. Isla Hartmann is going to take the class."

"I know that. So?"

"So? Haven't you heard how she is?"

"I have. She is strict." I muttered before seeing the disbelieving expression on everyone. "What?"

"Strict? Dude, "strict" is a lesser word in her presence. She is a demon, demon." Mark said before shaking his head. "No, even demons wouldn't be so cruel."

'And here I thought there was something important that I didn't know.'

I thought as we headed towards our class together, while listening to Mark's story about Demon Queen Isla Hartmann.

...

After entering the classroom, we all took our seats, a few seats before we could be called backbenchers. Sitting there, we were all busy talking about random things. In which Mark contributed the most.

Busy discussing games with Mark, I couldn't sense when someone sneaked up from behind me, covering my eyes with their hands.

"Guess who it is?" They muttered, bringing their mouth near my ear.

"Hm? Who could it be?" I spoke, my fingers under my chin. After a few seconds of acting like I was thinking deeply, I answered. "Jenny, is that you?"

My answer must have offended them, as they grumbled at my response. "Really, Jenny is sitting at the side. How could it be her?"

"Haha, I know it's you, Sarah," I laughed, removing her hands from my eyes and glancing at her. Came into view, a girl of 19 years old, with black hair and beautiful hazel eyes.

"Good morning," She said in a slightly annoyed voice, making me laugh.

"Good morning," I wished her back, as she put her things on the desk and wished others "Good morning."

Settling her things, she sat, before her gaze moved towards my wrist. "Did you buy a new watch?"

"Oh, this," I said, bringing my wrist up, garnering others' attention. "My mom bought me."

"Looks good on you."

"Thank you."

"Expensive too," Mark added from the side. "How much was it for?"

"Eh, I don't know. Mom didn't tell me when I asked, and also said not to check the price. So I don't really know."

"Rich people."

"It suits you," Sam spoke up while Jenny nodded in agreement. "Hm."

"Thank you, guys," I said before looking at Mark, who was balancing a pen on his lips.

"What? Don't expect a compliment from me? I only compliment girls. Hot girls, to be exact."

"I wasn't expecting any."

"Good boy."

Before I could shoot back, the front door opened, followed by the sound of the heels clacking on the floor, which echoed in the whole room that was now shrouded with silence.
