The happiest among them was Geoff. His daddy's quick agreement made him feel like happiness had come too suddenly.
Merrick dismissed his driver and assistant for the day and drove the three of them to Lydia's apartment himself.
After they got out of the car, Lydia took the two children upstairs first, while Merrick stayed behind to handle some business.
Seeing that his dad didn't follow them, Geoff quietly tugged on Lydia's hand.
"Auntie, I wish you were my mommy."
Lydia looked at Geoff in surprise.
"Why?"
"No reason, I just like it."
As for why, Geoff didn't really know. He just knew he loved being with Auntie. He knew Auntie could persuade Daddy.
"Don't you like Mommy?"
The child's answer made Lydia feel a pang of sadness. She couldn't understand how such a young child could say something like that.
"Mommy doesn't like me. She never takes me out to play, never sleeps with me, never takes me to school... it's like she's never done anything with me."
