"May we discuss this as families?" Jake asked, though his voice was resigned—he already knew what the answer would be.
"Of course," Gaia said. "I will return in one hour for your formal response. However, I should note that invitations to Prime Origin Academy are never extended twice. If declined, the opportunity is lost permanently. In the entire history of the academy, only twelve individuals have ever refused invitation. Eleven of them later regretted that decision deeply."
"And the twelfth?" Caspian asked.
"Died in a cultivation accident before they could reconsider," Gaia said simply. "The universe is dangerous for those who remain stagnant while others advance."
The displays flickered and vanished. Gaia's presence withdrew, leaving sudden silence in its wake.
Nobody spoke for a long moment.
