Chapter 5 - Getting The Hang Of It

Kaelrin opened her eyes and let out a massive yawn. She got up lazily and was going to find a drink of water, when she noticed how dark it was around her.

She looked up in the sky to find that the moon was in full force, raining moonlight below.

Kaelrin decided it would be best to find shelter for the night. After all, she still had some things she needed to learn about this world.

As she was about to climb a tree, she looked at the corpse of the Purple Snapper she had defeated earlier that day. She was proud of that accomplishment, and she beamed at her first kill.

Then she noticed a small glint of light that came off something in the flower. She got closer to see what it was and had to sift through the corpse to see it, to much of her dislike.

When she was finally able to grab it from the flower, she cleaned it off and held it to the moonlight. It looked to be a ring of some sort.

It was a pale golden around the edges and looked like it lost most of its luster. There was a purple gem chipped into a square on the top of the ring, and it was missing a small chunk in one of the corners.

'Identify,' she thought, testing out her skill to see if it would work. To her delight, it did.

[Item: (Lowest) Amathyst Ring]

[Description: A small ring capable of boosting your intelligence stat. It has lost a of its use after being overworn.]

[+0.1 Intelligence]

Once again, the item was of the lowest tier. It seemed that there was some sort of ranking with this tower, and Kaelrin was curious about it, but she didn't know where she could find that information.

She thought it was a better idea to find a safe space before trying to find information. She quickly put her sword behind her back, it was even easier to carry now that she had two points mastery, and scaled a tree.

Once she found a branch high enough, but also thick enough to carry her, she sat down and looked at her status window and found what she was looking for.

[Name: Kaelrin Dawnblade]

[Strength: 10.1]

[Agility: 10]

[Intelligence: 9.1]

[Stamina: 10.1]

[Skills: Downslash, Amplification, Identify]

[Weapon]

[Armor]

She'd never checked "more" before, so she thought that maybe it could have some information on this world. After all, Hazel had only told everyone the most basic of stuff, and if Kaelrin wanted to survive, she knew she would need more than that.

She pressed on more and a plethora of information came pouring out her status window. There was way too much information, and her head was short-circuiting trying to sift through everything.

She saw a search button and pressed it. She didn't exactly know how it worked, so she said lowest in hopes that something would be found.

Luckily, that narrowed down the information by a lot, and it didn't take her very long to find what she was looking for.

[Tiers]

[Every world in the tower inn divided into different tiers. They are Lowest, Low, Mid, High, Highest, and Boss. Each tier exponentially increases the monster or item's power, making monsters stronger and items more powerful. the Boss tier is reserved for only the most powerful being on the floor and their item.]

'Interesting,' she thought. 'So, the flower-beast I fought was at the lowest tier. I wonder what tier the beast that almost killed me was at.' As she contemplated that, she also searched for how to beat a floor.

[Completing a floor]

[There are many ways to defeat a floor, but the most common one is to defeat the boss. Since every floor has a boss, if you defeat the boss of each floor, you are almost guaranteed to go to the next floor. Some floors also have hidden requirements that are needed to advance as well.]

Kaelrin thought about that for a little bit. She felt it was a little daunting, having to defeat a boss, but she knew that if she stayed and grew stronger, she might be able to defeat it with enough time.

Since she wasn't any tired at all, she wanted to walk the forest a bit. She needed to find some food and water for the future, so it was a good idea to acquire those things now rather than later.

It didn't take her too long to find a source of water, and she found some fish swimming in the river as well. She thought about grabbing some to eat right then, but she would've needed a fire to cook it, and fires draw attention.

She then went to roam around the area and fight some Purple Snappers that were around the area till morning. While doing that, she noticed that items were not a guaranteed.

In fact, they were incredibly rare as she had not gotten another item out of them. Only another Amethyst Ring, which she wasn't allowed to wear more than one of. The system stopped her when she tried to put it on the same way it stopped her when she went to grab one of the dead people's weapons during the other beast encounter.

Once it was morning, she went back the river, had a few fish, and looked at her stats she had gotten while fighting.

[Name: Kaelrin Dawnblade]

[Strength: 10.5]

[Agility: 10.3]

[Intelligence: 9.1]

[Stamina: 10.4]

[Skills: Downslash, Amplification, Identify]

[Weapon]

[Armor]

She was able to piece together a few things during her night hunt. Firstly, you could get an increase in any stat except intelligence, including weapon mastery, though it only happened once. Secondly, the stronger you got, the more difficult it was to raise your stats through killing monsters.

She wasn't able to get anymore stats from killing the Purple Snappers anymore, but that was okay with her. Fighting them was kind of boring to her now and she needed something more challenging. She felt kind of weird how potent her excitement to fighting was.

She was constantly gaining small thrills from her fights, even when she didn't gain any points from it. She felt she was turning more aggressive, and she didn't know why.

Shaking off her thoughts, she got up from her meal, stomped the fire out, and started walking again.

Today was the day she was going to kill a Low tier monster.
