Chapter 1 - Prologue

In a rural town in South America — there lived the teens who were often viewed as a burden to the town.

Yet, sometimes this is only because they are viewed by someone's eyes.

Not his or hers. That's why they won't understand.

You will never know the story of every person have. We are made different from one a kind to another.

Some were born rich, some are poor, and some are in between. Though, this is just the start of your story. There's a lot you will have to go through.

Life isn't fair, is it?

Those are the words our little protagonist will ever say to himself.

That the life isn't fair at all. Not one bit. At least to him.

*****

My name is James. James Evans Castillo. Everyone will see me as a murderer for they said, I killed both of my parents out of anger.

But could you blame a kid who's only seven years old at that time? I think you will if you only saw a kid alive at the scene. Just standing there and staring at the corpse until the cops pulled me away to inspect me.

That incident left a scary on my left cheek. A reminder of a salty wound that won't heal no matter what you do.

Even though I was proven innocent, the townspeople says otherwise. Including my uncle.

When I was placed under his wings — all I recieve was violence, anger, and neglect. Clearly, a man wouldn't want a murderer running in his blood.

And the townspeople doesn't want a murderer in their town. But even after three years after the incident, they still viewed me as a burden and couldn't let go of what had happened.

This, of course was also passed by their kids who were the same age as me. I was bullied, isolated, and almost beaten to death by everyone.

This makes me feel that I shouldn't have live. That everything was at my fault. That what people said about me is true even though it hurts.

But even so, I couldn't help but pray and hope that there's still anyone — at least someone who will accept me after all those scars from the past.

Someone that who would love me, embrace my mistake, and forgive everything and left it behind.

That I was still existing as an innocent being to someone.

Maybe, the miracle favours or just took a pity on me this time and granted my one and only wish.

They gave me someone that would treat me as how just I wanted to be treated. A normal person who makes mistakes all the time.

This happens around when I was just ten. I still can remember the fresh bruise on my eye that my uncle left out of anger and hatred.

I also can remember how hot it was due to it was summer. My sweat rolled down my forehead as I walk around the town.

Eventually, I crossed that one house that makes me feel curious every time I passed by.

It was an old house from the 1950's that the old couple owned for many years. Those old couple were known for they took their grandchildren under their care while the father is still grieving for his dead wife.

They were four kids to be exact. You can see the other three attend to school, hang out with friends or walk around the town and interact with people.

But what is a mystery is that the fourth kid never goes outside. You can only see him watching on his window, as if a bird in a cage watching the others fly freely in the sky.

It is said that the boy is frail, sick, and also shy. But some rumoured that he might be cursed, a demon that will decieve you for his innoceny look for he can't go outside in broad daylight, or that he has social anxiety and depression.

Nevertheless — I had never seen that kid if I were to tell the truth. Not even a glimpse.

Every time I passed by, the boy would immediately close his window and block his figure by the curtains as if hiding from me.

I couldn't understand why, but maybe it is because that he might've heard the rumours about me and couldn't help but feel wary and scared.

But I was wrong.

On that day, a silly small incident happened.

The boy forgot to close his window and when I was just passing by — a wind suddenly flew by like it was waiting for this moment to come and do its task.

A piece of paper flew out of the window and landed on me. Curiously, I read what was written there.

It was nothing but a simple greeting and just asking someone to be his friend.

Just then, the boy suddenly shows up in panic when he saw what had happened.

His panic expression quickly changed to relief then shock as he sees me holding the letter. The one and only letter he had written.

I stared back at him. Not knowing what to do in this awkward situation. He tried to tell something but all he good produce was just gibberish words while screaming enough for me to hear.

But finally, after a long time, he spoke up with embarrassment hinted in his voice —

"W...w-will you b...be my fr...friend..!?"

Those words shocked me. No one has ever ask me that, even if it's just an accident.

This kid might've known a lots of things about me because of the rumours but I didn't understand why.

Why would he wanted to be friends with someone like me?

I can feel my throat go dry as I stared at him.

I noticed how beautiful he was even though he was a boy. His golden curly locks and amber eyes along with those freckles was such a giveaway.

It makes him look like an angel. So ethereal. So unreal. He was like a dream.

I hesitantly shook my head almost instinctively. I didn't know why I did that but I just did.

The young boy's eyes lighten up as he saw me nodded. Like a child getting his favourite toy.

Everything happened so fast that I thought I was just dreaming. A boy who looks like an angel suddenly wants to be friends with me, it makes me feel all warm inside.

Even though life isn't fair, sometimes it has a chance to take a pity on you and give you a one time that will turn as a lovely memory away from the violence in your life.
