Edward felt the cold yet powerful sensation emanating from his left hand, and a strange feeling of connection spontaneously arose.
This gauntlet, named "Oni Gauntlet," was entirely a dull bone color, covered with eerie and ornate dark red patterns that seemed to flow slowly on his skin like living things.
In the center of the back of his hand, a deep purple gem was embedded, like a demon's eye, emitting a deep, faint glow.
He could clearly feel a will desiring souls coming from the gauntlet.
This wasn't evil temptation, but pure, instinctual hunger.
Like a sleeping beast that had caught the scent of prey.
"Absorb souls, strengthen myself..." Edward murmured, the corners of his mouth turning up.
This ability was literally tailor-made for him!
Whether it was the hell creatures he'd encountered before, or the various demons and monsters he might face in the future, their souls would all become fuel for his growth!
He stood up and stretched his limbs.
The gains from this lottery were too massive; he needed a more private and secure place to properly study these new toys.
Although his bedroom at home was fine, if he caused a big commotion, it would be hard to explain.
A thought flashed through his mind.
"Devil May Cry."
Edward silently recited the name in his mind.
The next second, his bedroom door was no longer a passage to the living room.
When he reached out, turned the doorknob, and pushed open that ordinary wooden door, the scene before him instantly transformed.
The entire office behind the door radiated an aura of "expensive, but professional."
Edward walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling mirror.
His reflection was clearly visible in the mirror, wearing a silk bathrobe, with the fierce Oni Gauntlet on his left hand, creating a strange sense of contrast.
He extended his right hand and gently tapped his knuckles on the cold mirror surface.
"Knock knock."
"Alan, you there? Come out and chat."
As his voice fell, the mirror surface rippled like a calm lake into which a stone had been dropped.
A petite figure slowly emerged from the depths of the mirror.
It was Alan, the mirror spirit.
She curiously looked around, surveying the unfamiliar environment, and finally her gaze fell on Edward.
"Edward? Why'd you call me?" Alan's voice was as clear as ever, but her eyes were very direct, "Oh, where is this? It feels... actually pretty nice."
"This is the office I opened, cool right?" Edward proudly lifted his chin, like a kid showing off a new toy.
"Office?" Alan blinked, "You do this too? Specifically help people deal with creepy mirror girls?"
Edward was caught off guard and coughed twice: "Dealing with... supernatural events."
Just as Edward was about to say more, a strange message abruptly appeared in his mind.
"[Detecting someone attempting to connect to this space coordinate from outside. Allow entry?]"
This message didn't come from the system, but from the office itself.
Edward was stunned; he'd only just arrived, so how could someone already be looking for him?
He glanced at Alan, then at the door that served as the entrance.
"Guest's here," Edward said, "Someone... who might need help."
He chose "Allow."
As soon as he confirmed, the doorknob of the door slowly turned on its own.
"Click."
The door was pushed open a crack from outside, and a small blue-haired head timidly peeked in.
It was a little girl who looked only eleven or twelve years old, wearing a yellow raincoat, with a pale face and eyes full of confusion and fear.
She cautiously surveyed everything in the room, and when she saw Edward and Alan, her body visibly trembled.
"H-hello..." The little girl's voice was as faint as a whisper, "Excuse me, where is this?"
Edward looked at the suddenly appearing little girl, a hint of surprise rising. She didn't look like an evil spirit, but more like a lost child.
He cleared his throat, walked behind the desk, and dropped into the comfortable office chair, crossing his hands on the table, adopting professional demeanor.
"This is 'Devil May Cry,'" Edward said in a calm and smooth voice, "We accept all kinds of commissions, specializing in dealing with... paranormal events that science can't explain."
Upon hearing the words "paranormal events," the little girl's eyes suddenly lit up, as if she'd seen a ray of hope in endless darkness.
She no longer hesitated, quickly ran in, propped her hands on the wide desk, looked up, and said in an almost pleading tone: "That's perfect! Sir, please, help me save my mom and dad!"
Here we go!
Edward's interest peaked, knowing the main event was beginning.
"Don't rush, sit down and tell me slowly." He pointed to the chair in front of the desk, "What's your name? What happened? Tell me everything you know."
The little girl pulled out a chair and sat down, her body still tense.
"My name is Coraline. My mom and dad and I just moved into an apartment building called 'The Pink Palace.'"
Coraline's voice was tearful as she began to recount her bizarre and terrifying experience.
"Mom and Dad are super busy every day, always working on their computers, never have time to play with me. I was bored, so I explored that old, big house. Then... I found a doll, a doll that looked exactly like me, only its eyes were black buttons..."
"Guided by that doll, I found a small door in the living room that was sealed off by wallpaper."
"That night, I was woken up by a mouse, and I followed it, and I actually went through that small door. Behind the door... was another world! A home exactly like mine!"
Coraline's speaking pace became faster, and her emotions more agitated.
"There was a mom and a dad there too, but their eyes... were black buttons! That 'Other Mother' would cook amazing meals, the 'Other Father' would play the piano for me, the garden was full of incredible flowers, and the rooms were filled with talking toys! Everything there was way more fun than the real world!"
"I went to that world for several days in a row. Then, that 'Other Mother' invited me to stay forever, she said she would always love me, the only condition was that I also get button eyes sewn on..."
At this point, Coraline's body trembled violently, her face full of lingering terror.
"I said no! Then she locked me in a small dark room behind a mirror! There, I met the souls of other children... They'd all been tricked by that 'Other Mother,' had button eyes sewn on, and their souls were trapped forever! That's when I realized she wasn't a mother at all, she was an evil witch! She uses those dolls that look like the kids to spy on every child who moves in, then lures them and steals their souls!"
"Later, with help from Wybie in the other world, I managed to escape.
But... but when I got back to the real world, I found my mom and dad were gone!"
Coraline could no longer hold back, and tears rolled down like broken pearls.
"It must be her! It must be that Other Mother who took my mom and dad! She wants to use them to force me to go back! Sir, please, you have to save them!"
