Arlene's POV
"What did you expect from this meeting?" I demand, staring directly at the man who claims to be my grandfather. "What exactly do you want from me?"
Alpha Danvers's weathered face softens slightly. "I want you to come home with me. I want the chance to know you properly. You look exactly like your mother did at your age."
"If you weren't the reason she sent me away, then why would she have done it?"
His shoulders sag with the weight of years. "I honestly don't know. I don't even know who fathered you. It certainly wasn't her mate. She made it crystal clear from the beginning that she wanted absolutely nothing to do with him." The mystery deepens, making me wonder what drove my mother to such extremes.
"Listen carefully," I say, crossing my arms. "If you want any contact with me, it will only happen under my mate's supervision. He's protective to the point of being unhinged, and I really don't enjoy dealing with him when he's upset. This man here is his father."
