That changed when my phone rang.
I saw it was my dad. I quit the match and answered the phone. "Hey, Dad."
"Kris," Dad said. "How's it going?"
"Pretty good, actually. Can't complain at the moment. You?"
"Very good. I got some news for you."
I put out the butt on my ashtray, blowing any last remnants of smoke. "Oh yeah? Lay it on me."
"Yuya talked to me about getting you home for the holiday. So…We bought you a plane ticket. Should be from the Minneapolis airport, I think it's on Tuesday at 9 AM."
My jaw dropped. I was going home. I was going to finally see my friends again. I was so excited. "Yo, really?! Thank you so much, Dad. I can't wait to see y'all. For real."
Dad chuckled. "Me and your mom miss you, Kris. We always have. I'm glad you feel the same." Mom called for him soon after. "Gotta go. Love you, son. See you on Tuesday."
My body warmed. Some good news, finally, was stacking up. I texted Yuya, and she was so excited, she almost told me multiple times. I was heading home. I checked the email of the ticket. I was staying from December 22nd to January 2nd. I was gitty, waiting to see what I missed after months of being away. However, I had some unfinished business as I checked the last text Yuya sent me before getting back to my game.
"You talked to Carter about your relationship yet?"
