A thin line formed on Cassandra's head as her brows furrowed into confusion. She scrolled up to see the tons of messages she had received.
Manager Lawn…
Charity Home of care…
Angela…
Baron…
This Baron, in particular, was saved with about three kissing emojis. She read his text again.
[Happy Birthday, babe. You haven't forgotten about the dinner date, right?]
Aside from that, Baron had sent tons of messages which looked more like a wedding discussion, one which wasn't about Madeline but hers.
[About the venue, my father will decide where to use. It's going to be a great day.]
She chuckled unbelievably. "The late Cassandra was engaged to some man here on earth! What?!"
She was at a loss for words. A message came in from Baron again.
[Why haven't you been responding to my texts. Is everything alright, love?]
[ I'm still reeling from the news of what happened at Madeline's wedding. Is everything all right, babe?]
A call came in from him, but she ended it immediately.
[I'm coming over.]
Cassandra's eyes popped at the message, and quickly, she swiped up the keyboard. [You don't have to. Sorry for the late replies, I've been busy, and I have not been with my phone. About Madeline, I will explain when we see. Also, I haven't forgotten about the dinner date.] Then she sent it and let out a sigh of relief.
'That should stop him from texting.' She thought.
Unfortunately, a notification of Baron typing popped up again. [Fine. I will see you tomorrow. I love you.]
Cassandra dropped the phone to the side, swinging her legs playfully. She realized that, if she was truly going to be Cassandra, she had to have a full knowledge of everything about her, her lifestyle, and the type of person she was in particular.
She rose up to the mirror and stretched forth her hand, muttering inaudible words to get a revelation of the type of person the late Cassandra Benedotte was, but nothing other than her popped up. She tried again and again, but it yielded the same result.
Were her powers fluctuating?
She raised both hands and tried for Mr Benedotte, and everything about him popped up in the mirror, from the moment he was born to the very last thing he did. She tried the same for Mrs Benedotte, and she was able to see their life history so far.
Her powers were working fine. Nodding in affirmation, she tried to see for the late Cassandra once more. She stretched her hands so hard, sapping so much energy into the mirror, but nothing popped up; it remained blank.
The angel of death had wiped her history from the world.
Cassandra closed her eyes in disappointment. She knew she had to do it manually. She had to get someone to tell her everything.
She took in her lower lip. She couldn't go around asking the maids or Mr Benedotte or just anybody. She didn't want to leave any hint of suspicion in anyone's mind.
Again, the dinner date was tomorrow. She had no idea about the venue or time. When she checked Baron's previous chats, they had discussed the dinner date without mentioning the time or venue.
Well, she had no choice. She was going to ask him anyway, in a very slick way. A knock fell on her door in the process of sending Baron a text. Without waiting for permission from Cassandra, a tall, poppy red-haired lady walked in, adorned in a black suit, holding on to the tablet in her hands.
"Mr Baron canceled the reservation we made at the Bovin hotel. He wants to have dinner at his father's restaurant, ma'am." Angela told.
"Hm." Cassandra nodded. Her lips curled up. "Thank you."
Angela stretched forth the tablet in her hands to her. Glancing briefly at her, Cassandra collected it.
Angela continued. "The charity home of care has confirmed the dates you will be having a conference meeting with their teenagers and the children. We have also made provisions for the souvenirs and scholarships to be awarded to the teenagers who performed excellently in their CSAT."
Angela's words were like water to Cassandra. She was here for a soft life. She didn't expect that she would be involved in so many works. She scrolled through the schedule and gently shifted on the couch.
"Why do I have so much work?" She muttered to herself, but it was audible enough to Angela.
Angela chuckled. "Your sense of humor amazes me, ma'am. Being the eldest daughter of the Benedotte family and with the loads of work you are charged with at the headquarters, you still managed to venture into charity. A philanthropist who loves kids. I really do want to be like you, ma'am."
Cassandra faked a smile. "This is what I love to do." Her words seemingly appeared like a statement, but deep down, it was a question.
A philanthropist who loves kids? She hated kids. Even the sight of little demons in the underworld makes her feel nauseous.
"There's been a lot of birthday gifts delivered for your birthday. The kids at the Charity home care sent a lot of cards they designed themselves." Angela slipped her hand into her coat and brought out a tiny piece of card. "This one is from Stella."
Again, Cassandra smiled as she collected it. What could she do but smile and listen attentively to the talkative person who stood in front of her?
She opened the paper. [Thank you, Miss Cassandra, for all your help. The surgery went well, and my arm is fine now. I wish you the best on your birthday. Here's a piece of candy!]
Cassandra felt chills all over her body. Kids!
"Gross," She didn't know when she uttered that word, and Angela's expression turned sour, perhaps confused at the sudden development.
Noticing this, Cassandra's lips curled into a smile, and she slowly dropped the paper.
"I just remembered something funny." She chuckled.
Angela nodded. "Okay, ma'am. I will be here in your room by four to pick you up for the date." She bowed.
Angela was about to leave when a maid came in with a tray in her hands. "Hello, Miss Angela." The maid greeted.
'Angela.' Cassandra noted as she collected the drink from the maid, and the door shut with a click as her unwanted guest stepped out of the room.
Swinging the glass cup playfully in her hands, Cassandra crossed over to the standing mirror. As she drank from the cup, she thought to herself. "Being a human isn't so bad after all, but they end up being destroyed by their folly."
