The heavy steam of the outdoor bath felt completely suffocating.
Naruto stood in the shallow end of the stone pool. The boiling water barely reached his waist. He did not project his chakra to physically attack the older boy. He simply released the pure, unadulterated weight of his soul. The air grew completely stagnant.
Itachi felt a primal, instinctual warning scream in the back of his mind. The nine-year-old Uchiha remained completely motionless. He analyzed the four-year-old child standing before him.
"You speak of the Will of Fire as if it is a disease," Itachi said quietly, keeping his dark eyes fixed on Naruto.
"I speak of it as a tool of manipulation," Naruto corrected smoothly. "A tool designed by the First Hokage to unify warring clans, which has since mutated into a leash used by old men to control child soldiers. You are blinding yourself to the political reality of your own home."
Naruto took a slow step forward through the steaming water.
"Let us look at the current architecture of your beloved peace," Naruto suggested. His tone was perfectly conversational, yet it carried the weight of an executioner's blade. "Look at the Uchiha Clan. Following the Nine-Tails attack four years ago, your people were forcefully relocated to the extreme edge of the village. The compound is heavily monitored. Danzo Shimura and his Root operatives watch your father's every single move. The village elders firmly believe an Uchiha controlled the demon fox."
Itachi tightened his hands into fists beneath the water. He could not refute a single word. The relocation was a deep, festering wound for his clan. His father, Fugaku, held secret meetings late into the night. The Uchiha police force felt deeply insulted and completely alienated from the village they had helped build.
"The tension is rapidly reaching a boiling point," Naruto continued, his blue eyes locking onto Itachi. "Your clan is proud. They will not accept being treated like prisoners in their own home forever. They will eventually demand their rightful power. They will plan a coup d'état."
The word hung heavily in the humid air.
Itachi felt a cold knot form in his stomach. The blond boy was simply stating aloud the exact nightmare Itachi had been losing sleep over. The clan was growing restless. The village leadership was growing paranoid. A violent clash was mathematically inevitable.
"And when that rebellion finally sparks," Naruto said softly, "the village elders will refuse to fight a public civil war. A civil war would make Konoha look weak to the other hidden villages. They will need a quiet, surgical solution. They will look for a prodigy trapped between his love for his family and his desperate, foolish desire for peace."
Naruto stopped moving. He stood mere inches from the Uchiha prodigy.
"They will ask you to slaughter your own parents," Naruto whispered, the words slicing through the steam like a physical weapon. "They will tell you it is the only way to save your little brother. They will force you to murder your entire bloodline to maintain their fragile illusion of stability. And because of your pathetic philosophy of self-sacrifice, Itachi, you will actually obey them."
Itachi stopped breathing entirely.
The color drained completely from his face. His mind violently rejected the horrific scenario, yet his supreme intellect recognized the flawless, terrifying logic behind it. He knew Danzo. He knew the cold pragmatism of the village elders. If a coup was planned, they would absolutely order an extermination.
"No," Itachi gasped, his voice cracking. He broke eye contact, staring blindly at the ripples in the water. "The Hokage would never allow such an atrocity. Lord Hiruzen desires a peaceful resolution."
"Hiruzen Sarutobi is a weak, complacent old man," Naruto stated without an ounce of respect. "He will offer empty words of reconciliation while Danzo organizes the massacre behind his back. When the blood is finally spilled, the Third Hokage will simply close his eyes and accept it for the sake of the village. He has done it a hundred times before."
Naruto turned around and waded toward the wooden steps leading out of the pool.
"You want to save your brother," Naruto said over his shoulder. He stepped out of the water, picking up a white cotton towel from the wooden shelf. "Then you must stop acting like a sacrificial lamb waiting for the slaughter. If the system demands the blood of your family, you do not bow your head. You tear the entire system down."
Naruto dried himself in silence. He pulled his brown tunic over his head and fastened his ninja sandals.
Kinoe rose from the water quietly. The Root operative followed his master's lead. He dried off and donned his standard tactical gear, sliding the blank Root porcelain mask from his pouch over his face
Itachi remained in the hot spring for several more minutes. The boiling water did absolutely nothing to warm the freezing chill gripping his heart. The young Uchiha felt as if the solid ground beneath his feet had completely shattered. The absolute faith he held in the Leaf Village was deeply cracked.
He finally climbed out of the pool. He dressed his small, tired body in his standard shinobi attire. He strapped his short sword to his back.
The three Konoha shinobi left the Imperial Steam Pavilion.
They walked through the busy streets of the capital. The vibrant city was preparing for the evening festivals. Bright paper lanterns illuminated the food stalls. The sounds of laughter and traditional string music filled the humid air.
None of the Konoha shinobi paid any attention to the festivities. They had completed their assigned mission. Hideki was safely delivered to the administration complex. The mercenary threat was completely eradicated. The terrifying anomaly of the Jashin cultists was resolved. They had absolutely zero reason to linger in the Land of Hot Water.
They reached the massive wooden gates at the southern edge of the capital.
Naruto did not pause to look back at the city. He walked directly onto the dirt road leading into the dense, bordering forests. Kinoe fell perfectly into step slightly behind him, assuming his standard guard position.
Itachi followed them.
The journey back to the Hidden Leaf Village began in total silence. The atmosphere was entirely different from their initial departure. The dark, bordering forest swallowed them quickly, blocking out the light of the setting sun.
Itachi walked at the rear of the formation. His Sharingan was completely deactivated, yet his mind was working at a terrifying speed. He analyzed every single political move his father had made in the last six months. He evaluated the shifting patrol routes of the Anbu black ops around the Uchiha compound. He reviewed the cold, calculating stares of the village elders during the council meetings.
Every single piece of evidence aligned perfectly with the blond boy's horrific prediction.
Itachi looked ahead at Naruto's small back. The four-year-old child moved with purpose and absolute certainty. He possessed the raw power of a god and the calculating mind of a veteran warlord.
For the first time in his entire life, Itachi Uchiha realized he was completely outmatched in every conceivable metric. He was caught in a massive web, and the blond boy was the only one offering a way out.
