Chapter 1 - The Post Apocalypse?

Earth?

Could it still be called earth after what happened ten years ago.

It had just been an ordinary day, students in their schools or university, civil servants in their offices, government going about their daily lives, loafers doing their thing.

12:00pm

This was the exact time everything went awry.

First was an earthquake that affected the entirety of earth and the change of the energy one could feel in the air.

Second was the soul slate. An AI like template that showed the innate abilities of it's user. Many people saw it as an opportunity to do the impossible but that was just the beginning of the nightmare.

The earthquake and the soul slate had made earth visible to other worlds who either wished to conquer or were just curious.

Dungeons appeared and those who could not contain the new energy turned into Berserkers whose only purpose was to devour or kill.

Half of the world's population dwindled fast and humanity had to fight back so as not to be wiped out.

That's why years later, there were four habitable zones with humans occupying two of them, leaving the other two to the other races who has signed a peace treaty.

All because of a common enemy. Ashuras.

They were humanoids with jade-like skins with runes, black cornea with white pupils, and a tail. They had slender physique and were much stronger than the average human.

This race had only one goal.

Destruction.

They moved around in an humongous spaceship, destroying any worlds they came by.

The humans along with the help of other races pushed the Ashuras back but they still had to face attacks from time to time.

Years later, everything had managed to stabilize.

Humans coexisted on the surface with other races, but undercurrents were still ongoing. Even, so as to prepare for any Ashura attack, the academy was created, divided into seven zones scattered around the world.

Jael's parents had died in the fifth year of the apocalypse, under the class of a seven gate Ashura right before his eyes.

He swore to avenge his parents if he ever gets the strength.

That's why, he stared blankly at the parcel on the table which was sent to him by his deceased parents from six years ago, to arrive on his seventeenth birthday.

According to the officer, his parents seem to have anticipated their death and had handed it over to the then higher-ups to be given to him when he was seventeen if he ever survived.

He stepped forward and tired the parcel open as a fist-sized silver orb rolled out and a dirty envelope fell out.

"Eeh, that's all?" Jael shook the parcel wrap before looking inside and seeing nothing.

Discarding the wrap, he picked up the envelope and looked at him. He recognized his mum's handwriting. He noticed how several fingerprints were on it which showed how it had passed through several hands.

He opened the envelope and took out the letter, he opened it and it read:

Dear Jael boy,

I'm sure when you did be reading this, I and your dad would have already been dead. And yeah, we knew we would die.

We love you son, really but we had to do what we had to so you did survived this new world.

That silver orb before you, is an opportunity we left for you, whatever becomes of it, is your fate, and how you let your fate go is on you.

I don't know what it is, I and your father believes you're fated with it.

Whether you become a force to reckon with or a mediocre, it doesn't matter, as long as you're living, that's all that matters.

Love you son,

Your lovely mom, Deila.

Jael looked at the letter, the expected heart wrenching word never appeared which made his eyes twitch before he sighed.

"Just as always..."

His mother, Deila has always been like that, she had never been one to be empathic, she was just apathetic.

Putting the letter aside. He looked at the orb, he picked it up and examined it.

There was nothing fancy about it, it just looked like a normal orb...

Then...

Jael felt a hum as if a heart was beating steadily. His eyes widened and his intuition told him to drop the orb but it was too late as a spike pierced out and into his left eye and another into his palm.

"AAAAAGGGHHH!!!" He screamed as he felt as if something was flowing into his body through his eyes. The pain knocked him out.

Before he went into oblivion, he saw an interface appear.
