Chapter 196: Shadow Outbreak
"Everyone in the car, get out now!" Several thugs were actually opening fire in broad daylight to hijack a vehicle.
"Ah!" Sara screamed in terror, her arms instinctively tightening around Jenny.
Evander was equally terrified, but as a man and a husband, he had to stand up. He noticed the pistol he kept in the armrest box. Glancing at the thugs outside, he tucked the gun into his pocket.
"Gentlemen, we don't have any money," Evander said as he opened the door and stepped out, his hands raised and trembling.
"I don't want your money, I want the car!" the lead thug shouted.
"Thank you! Thank you!" Evander turned quickly and yelled, "Sara! Get the child out of here, quickly!"
Sara, hearing Evander's cries from inside the car, clutched Jenny to her chest and stepped out, her whole body shaking. She held the child tightly, trying to prevent her from seeing the scene outside.
"Wait a second... this chick isn't bad looking." One of the thugs took a liking to Sara's appearance and walked forward, reaching out to touch her.
"Wait! Gentlemen! Didn't you say you only wanted the car!" Evander could not bear to watch his wife be humiliated like this.
"Beat it! I don't want to kill anyone, but I'm not afraid to do it!" The thug kicked Evander hard in the stomach. Evander collapsed backward, hitting the ground.
The thug then grabbed Sara, trying to pull her away.
"No! Get away from me! You animal!" Sara used every ounce of strength to hold onto Jenny and bit down hard on the thug's hand.
"Ah!"
Bang!
The thug fired. A bullet tore through Sara's head; her skull shattered like a watermelon, spraying crimson blood everywhere.
Splashes of blood landed on Jenny's face. Jenny's pupils dilated; her mother was dead.
"No! You monsters!" Evander scrambled to his feet and threw himself over Sara's body, weeping inconsolably.
"F***!" the thug cursed, feeling irritated. He hadn't intended to kill anyone, but he hadn't expected the woman to bite him.
Seeing that Sara was no longer breathing, Evander looked at Jenny in her arms. "Come here, Jenny." He tried to pull Jenny out of Sara's grasp.
"Hey, Ryan! I told you, you'd die on a woman one day," the lead thug joked.
Ryan grinned. "Dying on a woman is better than dying under a cop's gun."
Bang!
A gunshot cut through the thugs' laughter. Ryan's ugly smile froze forever. A bullet hit him in the heart from behind. His heart stopped instantly, and his pupils dilated.
Thud! Ryan fell straight to the ground.
"Ryan!" the lead thug shouted. As Ryan fell, he saw Evander holding a gun.
"You all deserve to die!" Evander pulled the trigger frantically, emptying the magazine.
The lead thug reacted quickly, rolling behind the car to survive. The other henchmen drew their weapons and began returning fire.
With no cover, Evander couldn't find a place to hide. He used his sturdy back to shield Jenny from the bullets.
"I love you, Jenny," Evander whispered into her ear before his head slumped onto her shoulder.
Evander's weight pressed down on Jenny, pinning her to the ground, but Jenny didn't move. Two lines of tears flowed from her eyes, tracing down her face to the pavement.
"F***!" The lead thug, hearing the silence, peered out and saw Evander lying dead. He roared in anger. This was supposed to be a routine job, but they had botched it and lost a brother.
"Boss, their daughter is still alive," one of the henchmen noted, pointing to Jenny under Evander's body.
"Pull her out! I'm going to vent my rage!" The lead thug didn't care how young she was; he had lost a brother because of her parents.
The henchman nodded and ran toward Evander's body, reaching down to grab Jenny.
"Won't even spare a little girl? Are you even human?" A red blind cane struck the henchman's hand with a sickening crack.
The intense pain sent the thug to his knees, clutching his hand and screaming, "Ah! My hand!"
"Are you okay, little girl?" Matt Murdock had arrived. The moment he heard the gunshots, he had changed into his suit. He never expected these people to commit a highway robbery in broad daylight. Most importantly, after all this time, the police still hadn't arrived.
Matt pulled Jenny out and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Don't worry, little girl. You're going to be fine."
"Actually, you're the one who's in trouble, Daredevil," the lead thug said, pointing his pistol at the back of Daredevil's head. "Who would've thought Daredevil would show up in the daytime?"
"And I didn't think scum like you still existed in this world. Who do you work for?!" Matt barked, staying low with his back to the thug.
For thugs to be this arrogant, there had to be a massive organization behind them.
"Don't worry about who we are, you're not getting away now." The lead thug tilted his neck, and more hidden accomplices emerged from the surroundings. "Our boss really wants to see you—preferably with all four of your limbs broken."
"Can I kill them?" Jenny said calmly.
"Kill them?" Matt asked in shock. How could the word "kill" come from the mouth of a girl who looked no older than three?
"Kill us? Little girl, aren't you a bit naive—" The lead thug didn't finish his sentence. He felt the sky suddenly go dark.
A massive shadow appeared in front of him. Seeing the terrified expressions of his men and the wide eyes of Daredevil, the lead thug slowly turned around. He saw a black monster nearly ten meters tall, licking its sharp white teeth.
"What kind of monster is this..." The lead thug's hands went limp, and his pistol clattered to the ground.
"Roar!" The Shadow-Eater Ninja opened its bloody maw and swallowed the lead thug whole.
"Has Destiny arrived?" was Matt's first thought. These creatures were the hallmark of Destiny. But then he realized—No! This isn't Destiny!
Jenny, whom Matt was holding, began to drift into the air, her eyes glowing with a terrifying scarlet light.
"I want them inside Little Five's stomach!" Jenny screamed, her voice distorting into a demonic double-tone.
"The world has gone mad," Matt thought, his head spinning. He couldn't tell who was saving whom anymore.
