Chapter 103 - Chapter 103: Misunderstanding

Chapter 103: Misunderstanding

"Are you guys sent by the government?" Klein had just asked the question.

Big Black raised the laser sword in his hand and charged forward. After all, the laser sword's energy was limited, and even with Little Black's improvements, it could only last for ten minutes.

Klein looked at the laser sword above his head, leaping backward, sticking his entire body to the ceiling. "I have no intention of opposing the government. I promise to be a friendly citizen."

Klein thought Little Black was genuinely a government agent, and he took Big Black's silence as an affirmation.

Big Black didn't care about any of that. Since the monster in front of him was dodging so frantically, it must be afraid of him. Finally, his chance to earn merit had arrived!

Big Black leaped onto the ceiling and swung his sword toward Klein's arm.

Klein hastily dodged. That was a laser sword; he definitely couldn't block it, so he could only evade.

Big Black pressed his advantage, holding the laser sword in his right hand and pulling out a pistol from his chest with his left. Every Shadowkhan (except for the Shadow Eaters) now carried a pistol.

Bang!

The sound of the gunshot attracted Silas and Peter on the rooftop. Peter instinctively wanted to rush inside and investigate, but Silas stopped him.

"Since Big Black wants to show off this one time, let him do it," Silas said with a smile. It was a good opportunity to train Big Black and prevent him from loafing around in bed all day long.

Peter nodded upon hearing this. Since Silas had given the word, there was no need to rush down.

Inside the House

Big Black was constantly attacking Klein. As soon as Klein created any distance, Big Black would shoot him with the gun.

So far, Klein hadn't fought back once because he wanted to show Big Black that he truly was a good citizen.

Click! Click!

Big Black realized the pistol was out of bullets, so he put it back in his chest.

Seeing Big Black put the gun away, Klein seized the opportunity to catch his breath and speak. "Officer, I really am a good citizen. You can check my identity."

"As for why I look like this monster, it was all an accident." After Klein finished, he saw that Big Black had no reaction and was still attacking him with the laser sword.

Gritting his teeth, Klein chose not to dodge this time but stood his ground, unmoving. He wanted to prove his determination.

Swish!

The laser sword in Big Black's hand passed over Klein's arm without hesitation, leaving behind a patch of charred fur.

The laser sword hadn't severed Klein's arm! It had only singed the nearby fur into black curls.

"I'm alright!" Klein was incredulous. He only felt a burning sensation, yet his arm was fine!

Big Black looked at the laser sword in his hand. Did Little Black lie to him? Why was this laser sword useless?

"Officer, look, does this prove I am a friendly citizen?" Klein hoped the government would let him go.

Just as Big Black was about to continue his attack on Klein, the laser sword's energy ran out, and it turned into a simple hilt. Klein saw all of this, but he assumed the government agent had turned off the laser sword, choosing to spare him.

"Thank you," Klein said, bowing in gratitude.

Good opportunity! Big Black suddenly jumped up, pulled out a black kunai, and tried to stab it into Klein's head.

Snap!

The kunai broke, shattering into two pieces.

"Why? Why deceive me? I clearly gave you a chance," Klein's eyes seemed to lose their color, becoming vacant and lifeless. The government had disappointed him deeply.

Big Black saw the danger and tried to retreat quickly, but Klein grabbed him with a large hand, preventing him from escaping.

"I'm going to eat you!" The mandibles at the corners of Klein's mouth trembled, and then he bit down on Big Black's head.

Poof! Big Black dissolved into a cloud of black smoke.

"What is this thing?!" Klein exclaimed, watching the black smoke slowly dissipate.

Rooftop

"Hmm, not bad. He lasted ten minutes and forty-five seconds," Silas said, looking at the timer Little Black was holding.

The moment Big Black turned into black smoke, Silas, as his master, knew immediately. Unfortunately, Big Black didn't even have time to say what had happened before dissolving.

Little Black nodded. Yes, Master, but I feel like there was some padding in that time.

"What's going on?" Peter asked, confused. What were these two talking about?

Silas shook his head. "Nothing. We should go down and take a look."

"Great!" Peter was already impatient.

Silas opened the Shadow Realm and brought Peter into the room.

Little Black shrugged. This fight didn't need him, so it was more worthwhile to return to the Shadow Realm and continue his tech research.

Inside the Room

After dealing with Big Black, Klein was about to turn around and head back to the bedroom to rest when he heard the sound of two people landing.

He immediately turned around and saw Spider-Man and the Black-Clad Man!

"Why are the lights off in here?" Peter had just spoken when he saw Klein's two large, glowing eyes. "Whoa, buddy, is it Christmas today?"

In the pitch-black room, even without lights, Silas and Peter could see clearly. Although Spider-Man's night vision ability is rarely mentioned, he did possess it, and this ability often helped him defeat enemies at night. Later, Peter even developed night-vision goggles to make his sight even sharper. As for Silas, he also possessed Spider-Man's abilities, naturally including this one, and combined with the power of his mask, he could see even clearer than Peter.

"Spider-Man, Black-Clad Man?" Klein asked.

"Hey! You know us? Looks like our reputation is pretty good," Peter said.

"What are you here for?" Klein knew who Spider-Man and the Black-Clad Man were; they were both superheroes who punished criminals. They were Klein's idols and the reason he had reawakened his sense of justice and his long-dormant hero dream.

"Sorry, sir, it's nothing major. We're just wondering where the gentleman who originally lived here is," Peter said, looking around. He was trying to find Klein.

Klein was alarmed. How did they know who originally lived here? Had he been exposed?

"I'm a good man," Klein said. He didn't want to conflict with Spider-Man and the Black-Clad Man.

"Of course, we know that, but where is the owner of this house?" Peter hadn't heard any other sounds, yet he clearly saw Klein return. A bad suspicion popped into Peter's mind: Did the monster in front of him eat Teacher Klein!?

"I don't know. I haven't seen anyone else since I got here," Klein began slowly retreating. He planned to slip away first to avoid any conflict.

Silas saw what the monster was planning. He summoned two Shadowkhan ninjas to block the exit and said, "Don't be in such a hurry to leave. You haven't answered our question yet."

"Are these people yours?!" Klein recognized these figures as identical to the black-clad man he had just fought and "killed." That meant Spider-Man and the Black-Clad Man's intentions were likely hostile.

"Go!" Klein decided to flee. The two Shadowkhan behind him wouldn't be able to stop him. He needed to escape the pursuit of these two first.

"Don't run!"
