Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: Slaughter

Chapter 99: Slaughter

As Klein laid down the cash, two more burly men appeared behind him. Judging by their tone, they seemed to be accomplices of the homeless man. Both men were holding pistols, their dark muzzles pointed at Klein. "Put the gun down."

Accompanied by another set of footsteps, the young man who was initially being mugged returned. He put his arm on the homeless man's accomplice's shoulder and scoffed, "Didn't expect anyone to actually play the hero. Do you think you're Iron Man? Or Spider-Man?"

"Hahaha!"

"Hahaha!"

All four people present couldn't help but laugh out loud. The homeless man also picked up his knife again and said, "Tsk tsk tsk, look at this. This is what happens when you try to be a hero."

From the start, this whole thing was a staged act. The successive appearances of Spider-Man and Iron Man had sparked the heroic dreams of quite a few people. However, they failed to understand the reality: What gave Spider-Man and Iron Man their power? A sense of justice? No! It was absolute strength.

When Klein entered this street, the four robbers had already targeted him. They noticed the bulky item in Klein's pocket. Coming out this late at night to an area where homeless people lived meant he definitely carried something for self-defense. So, the four robbers decided to try setting a trap to lure Klein in.

It was a terrible plan, but unexpectedly, it actually worked, attracting Klein and successfully deceiving him into coming here.

"You are all normal people with working hands and feet. Why do you insist on doing things that violate the law?" Klein stood up calmly.

With the antennae on his forehead, he could sense every move around him, even in the darkness. From the very beginning, he knew all four of them were working together, but he kept fantasizing that perhaps those fifty dollars could change the course of their lives.

The result was obvious: Klein failed, and these four people were now threatening his life.

"Stop spacing out and dreaming! Put the gun down right now, and then hand over everything else you have! And don't try any tricks, I saw that wad of cash in your wallet." The leading man spoke from behind Klein. Under the faint streetlights, he could vaguely make out the contents of Klein's wallet. This guy is actually quite rich.

"Hmm..." Klein pondered for a moment, let out a sigh, and clatter! He threw his pistol onto the ground, then raised his wallet. "I have three hundred and fifty dollars here. I won't give you my identification, though."

"I also won't call the police to arrest you. I just hope you don't do this kind of thing again in the future." Klein pulled out his ID and then turned and tossed the wallet to the leading man.

The man took the wallet, his joy evident on his face. He hadn't expected it to go so smoothly. He thought the guy with the gun would fight tooth and nail. They had discussed beforehand that if Klein desperately refused to hand over the money, they would turn around and leave without hesitation. After all, Klein had a pistol, and if he suddenly fired a shot and hit one of them, it wouldn't end well for any of them. No one wanted to bet on whether the bullet would hit them.

Now that Klein had put the gun on the ground, he posed absolutely no threat, allowing them to act even more recklessly.

"Leave your ID too. You're not in a position to negotiate with us," the leading man said, not planning to let Klein off easily.

Klein clenched his fist, then slowly relaxed it, letting his identification fall to the ground.

"I think he must have other good stuff on him," the fleeing young man eyed Klein's long black coat greedily. There must be plenty of good things hidden under that coat.

"You're a clever kid. Go search him," the leading man signaled with a slight tilt of his head.

The young man nodded, walking toward Klein. "Don't worry, we won't hurt you. Provided, of course, that you obediently cooperate!"

"What are you going to do?" Klein asked the young man.

The young man smiled. "I'm going to take that coat off and see if you have any other good stuff~"

"I advise you not to do that," Klein's tone was filled with menace, and his whole demeanor became grim.

Sensing the change in Klein's presence, the young man actually took a few steps back in fear.

"Haha! Reeves, I can't believe you're so cowardly, getting scared by a normal guy who doesn't even have a weapon," the leading man mocked.

The other two joined in, laughing at the young man, Reeves.

"Hmph! Who says I'm scared!" Reeves snatched a pistol from one of his companions, pointed it at Klein, and said furiously, "What are you looking at! Stand still, dammit!"

To Reeves' surprise, Klein didn't stand still. Instead, he turned around and walked away.

"Tsk! Reeves, looks like having a gun doesn't help you much either."

"If it were me, I'd just shoot, see if that bastard would still be arrogant."

His companions' words constantly provoked Reeves. Finally, Reeves was blinded by rage.

Bang! Reeves fired a shot at Klein.

Clink! Clink! The bullet fell off Klein's back, bounced on the ground, making a sound that echoed in the empty alley.

"My word, Reeves, you actually shot him!" the leading man cried out in alarm.

At the end of the day, they were just common thugs committing a robbery. They carried guns purely to scare Klein. Robbery and murder were two completely different things.

"You guys made me do it!" Reeves shouted angrily.

"Wait! Didn't you notice he's fine! The bullet didn't penetrate his body!" the very first robber shouted.

That shout drew everyone's attention to Klein. The fact that Reeves had shot him had made them overlook that Klein was not injured by the bullet. Now, prompted by their accomplice, they all realized it. How could a normal person withstand a bullet?

"This was the last chance. Why couldn't you cherish it?" Klein muttered to himself, head bowed.

Klein had been lied to and threatened repeatedly, but he still hadn't resolved to kill them. He had still given these four people a chance, right up until they fired that shot.

Bang! Bang! Bang! The leading man fired three consecutive shots at Klein. The bullets all fell to the ground after hitting Klein.

"This guy is a monster!" the leading man screamed in terror.

"Give me that!" another accomplice snatched the gun and continued firing at Klein until five shots were spent...

Clatter! The man was so terrified that the gun slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground.
