Chapter 4 - Soundwave

Superhuman abilities had existed long since time. Perhaps there was an origin for it, but the history books didn't say.

The past held several tales of wars fought by hundreds of humans in loyal servitude, these humans following every word of those with super abilities, people they deemed as divine.

Temples, cults, religious movements were built around the most powerful of superhumans, and with them posing as warlords, Emperors, and gods, they sent their followers to do their bidding.

Humanity had come a long way from those times, dark times they called the black ages.

In the modern ages, the world was more informed, people with super abilities were labelled no more than superhumans. They weren't gods, demons or angels, just individuals who lucked out and unlocked the critical Z gene.

Where there was evil, there would always be good. After ages of people with superhuman abilities ruling and terrorising the world, a group of the most powerful superhumans had come together and created order in the world.

These superhumans, nine in number, referred to as the Nine Calamities, created the Hero association, empowering and giving it dominion over the heroes of the planet.

The Association had a headquarters in several of the major cities in the world, its stations spread throughout and its name known in all corners.

When Bang Titan and his men set off an explosion on the 32nd floor of Uman Tower, the police had immediately been alerted and they had sped to the scene.

Men in uniform carrying pistols and rifles had first arrived at the scene and surrounded the building, a shootout quickly commencing.

Dressed in thick black combat attire, powerful rifles with sleek designs on their backs and machine guns set up in the building and on upper floors, the villains' henchmen had easily overpowered the police, explosions ringing out.

Smaller buildings and police vehicles were already on fire by the time a SWAT team from the police arrived, these individuals, dressed in black and blue uniforms, wearing thick, heavy armour and carrying sophisticated guns that glowed with blue light.

A second round of fighting had begun, this one more intense than the first and though the police put up a fierce fight, they were being pushed back, losing officers till two heroes, a D and C rank, arrived at the scene.

"Whoa," Soundwave exclaimed as a white vehicle adjacent to the police vehicle he was hurdled behind was blown up, sent flying into the air by a well-launched RPG.

From the direction of the rocket, he could calculate the position of the shooter, but the hail of bullets from behind kept him in place.

"Don't do anything stupid," a voice came from the hero's side, causing him to turn to the man dressed in a hero costume made of bright yellow and black, a yellow mask with black eyes on his head.

"Wasn't planning to," the boy assured the much older hero.

"What are we going to do?"

The man in yellow didn't speak a word but pointed up, bringing the younger heroes' attention to the three machine guns that had been mounted beside the windows of the top floor.

Soundwave wasn't sure of the full gist, but trusted his more experienced colleague.

He carefully watched the stationed guns, watching as they swerved from left to right on their own, spitting out dozens of bullets.

"Get ready", he heard, and when two of the guns swerved from their direction, only one spitting bullets close to their position, Goldmax stood up and, raising his hands, released a dense wave of golden dust, shiny particles flying into the air and blinding the region he had targeted.

"Go."

Getting the order, in his brown combat attire, his brown hair billowing in the air and a black mask over his eyes and nose, Soundwave burst from behind the car, jumping over its front.

He raised his hand as he moved and, sighting his target, the man turning to quickly aim his RPG at him, he threw out his arm, a compacted wave of sound shooting from his palm, screeching as it tore through the air and slammed into the enemy.

Noticing two other armed men not too far from his initial target, his other arm already loaded and ready to go, Soundwave launched his left arm, this time a wave spiralling out from his palm, expanding and slamming into both of them.

His second attack might have been weaker, unable to knock out its target like the first, but it got them off their feet and gave the police vulnerable, exposed targets to shoot.

"Get to cover" Sound wave heard from behind and noticing the golden dust rapidly fading away from the corner of his eyes, her moved without hesitation.

There was a collapsed pillar to the side, and he immediately dived behind it, a wave of bullets hitting his previous position the next second.

A wave of bullets focused on the pillar sound wave was behind, and while he lay on the ground debating how to get himself out of his current hurdle, a drone flying low came to his position, a small flag carrying the words 23 sticking from its top.

Recognising the drone as coming from a news channel, despite the hail of bullets peppering his position, he raised up a thumb, the grin on his face seen by the millions of people currently tuned to the channel.

"He's so brave, will he be okay!!"

"Damn it, look at the destruction, these villains should be chained up and made to do hard Labour!!"

"Aren't they already doing that?"

James stood staring at the screen for some seconds, he looked at the glimpses of the heroes with a blank face, not even the sight of Soundwave with a grin changing his expression, and quietly he turned and continued his exit out the door.

As James stepped out, he looked to the half-moon in the sky and then noticing a couple making out underneath a tree leaning on a car, he headed towards them.

"Nathan, your keys"

"Huh,"

"It's an emergency," James said, not pausing his stride.

Nathan felt like James had teleported, cause the next second he was by his side, stretching out his hand.

"Ehh, sure," Nathan said, buckling to the pressure of the other boy's piercing gaze.

James ignored the seductive gaze the tall bitch beside was sending his way, he got into the car and immediately drove away.

"Be back before morning," Nathan shouted, unsure what had just happened.

Deaf to the words of the car owner, James made a beeline for one of the exclusive buildings on campus, stepping into it and making his way to a room.

"James!!" One of the two females in the room which James had barged into called with surprise.

"Where is Olivia's computer?"

"Ehh there." She pointed at the other side of the room, which had been painted a mix of white and pink, a desk carrying a pink laptop in that area.

Immediately, James made his way to the laptop, opening it, but before he could touch its keys, a voice came from behind.

"Don't bother, she's already posted it."
