Chapter 11 - FLASHBACK – (Akari pov)

Ren Home - the night before the graduation day

The room was calm but heavy.

Lunara Roosevelt (Ren's mom) sat across from me, her eyes kind but firm. Arein Roosevelt (Ren's dad) watched quietly, folding his hands.

"We can't just let you go," Lunara said softly. "You're still young, Akari. You need guidance, support."

"I understand," I replied, refusing to back down. "But I need to live on my own. To find my own strength."

Arein shook his head gently. "It's dangerous. You're not ready."

I clenched my fists under the table. "I'm not asking for permission to run away. I'm asking for a chance to prove I can stand on my own."

Lunara sighed but didn't relent. "You're stubborn. Like your mother."

That made me pause.

After a long silence, Arein spoke again, his voice softer. "If you insist, there is one condition."

I leaned forward, hope flickering.

"You will not live alone," Lunara said. "You must live with your uncle in Russia."

I blinked, caught off guard.

Uncle…

They exchanged a glance before Lunara continued.

"Your mother's real name was Jade Cedric Velnor. She left her family when she married your father. They disapproved and cut ties."

There was silence.

Then I asked the question I'd been holding back.

"If my uncle is my only family left, why hasn't he looked for me? Why didn't he adopt me?"

Lunara exchanged a glance with Arein.

"My dear," Lunara said gently, "your mother cut ties with her family the moment she married your father. She wanted to protect you—from them and from the past."

"Your uncle, Silas Cedric Velnor," Arein continued, "doesn't even know you exist. Your mother never told him about you. She ran away to keep you safe."

I felt the weight of that settle on me.

"You will have to find him yourself," Lunara added. "But for now, you must live with him. He is your only family left."

I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat.

"If that's what it takes to live independently, I will do it."

Lunara smiled faintly. "We will support you, but you must promise to seek him out—and live with him."

"I promise," I said firmly.
