[Start of the chapter]
"Joji-sama! It really wasn't my fault!"
"Joji-sama! I really saw that Charmander slacking off all day—he didn't train at all!"
"Joji-sama! You have to believe me! Believe me!"
In the dim room, Amano Joji sat in a chair, watching coldly as a middle-aged man knelt at his feet and kept kowtowing.
Sniffling and sobbing, covered in tears and snot, the pitiful sight didn't make even the slightest trace of mercy appear on Joji's icy face.
"Drag him out, chop him up, and toss him into the wild to feed Pokémon."
Joji glanced at him with contempt. With a single sentence, he casually decided the man's life and death.
He was still furious.
If it weren't for this useless piece of trash feeding him false information back then, he wouldn't have made such a huge fool of himself in today's exam!
But he couldn't vent that rage on Teacher Moo Inoshishe, and he couldn't vent it on Himeko either.
So in the end, the only person left to take his anger was this subordinate of his.
"No, Joji-sama! Please spare me! I'm begging you—spare me!"
The middle-aged man was dragged out, wailing the whole way.
Anyone listening would feel a bit of pity.
Joji remained expressionless, indifferent, as if he hadn't heard a single sound.
"You beast! You're not human!"
"I worked myself to the bone for your Amano family for so many years, and this is what I get in the end?!"
"I hate this! I hate this!"
Seeing Joji's reaction, the man already knew there would be no change to his fate.
He started to lose his mind, pointing at Joji and cursing him out at the top of his lungs.
He collapsed completely.
The shouting grew more distant, and then vanished entirely.
The door to the room shut.
Joji's face grew darker and darker, his fist clenched so tight his knuckles turned white.
In his mind, the figures of Teacher Moo Inoshishe and Himeko flashed past again and again.
Endless resentment surged up.
Bang!!
He slammed a fist down onto the armrest of the chair.
He swore he would take back the face he'd lost—from those two.
Creak.
Just then, the tightly closed door was pushed open.
A beam of light poured in from outside.
Backlit by that glare, a burly man walked in.
"You piece of trash! All you do is disgrace me!"
Amano Akio strode up to Joji. Looking at his disappointing son, he felt stifled to the extreme.
Amano Akio considered himself a man of his generation.
He'd built his fortune from nothing in Wintergreen City and reached the status he had today.
But he never imagined he'd end up with a son like this!
Sometimes he was so furious he wanted to slap Joji to death on the spot.
But then he'd remember this brat was his only son.
The Amano bloodline—and the family's future—still had to be carried on by him.
So he forced down the impulse in his chest.
"Everything you need is in here."
Akio let out a sigh, suppressing the fire in his heart, and casually tossed a case onto the table in front of Joji.
It was a silver metal combination lock case.
From the heavy thud when it hit the tabletop, whatever was inside had real weight.
A flicker of delight flashed through Joji's gloomy eyes.
He immediately straightened up and opened the lock case.
The moment it opened, it revealed a pile of bottles and vials.
Inside each was a clear liquid filled all the way up to the neck, like some kind of potion or drug.
Each bottle had different packaging colors.
Some were red glass, some green, and there were yellow and blue ones as well.
"I spent 200 million to get these."
"If you don't bring me back the championship from this Pokémon tournament, then don't bother coming home again."
Akio snorted, feeling a stabbing ache in his chest.
Earlier, when this unfilial brat used Rare Candy to force-feed Dragonair, he'd already burned through several hundred million.
And now—
Another 200 million for these preparations.
The family coffers were practically being emptied by him!
If he couldn't take first place in this Pokémon exam, then all of this investment would be thrown straight into the water!
After giving Joji a cold glare, Akio turned around and left without looking back.
Joji didn't care at all about what his old man had said.
His attention was completely fixed on the little bottles in front of him.
He stared at them in a daze.
A moment later, wild ecstasy spread across his face.
"With these, I can greatly make up for Dragonair's flaws!"
"There are still a few Rare Candy left—feed Dragonair up to elite high-tier!"
"With strength like that, I refuse to believe I can't win!"
Joji muttered under his breath, a trace of madness flashing through his expression.
The next second, he flicked a Premier Ball.
A red flash of light streaked out.
Dragonair's figure appeared before him.
"Come on, little guy. Time for your shots."
Joji produced an enormous syringe from who-knows-where, drew the potion from one of the bottles, and advanced step by step toward the Dragonair in front of him.
